The book A Christmas Carol and the 1984 movie were very different but were also alike. In the 1984 movie George C. Scott acted as Scrooge. There was many similarities and differences between the 1984 movie and the book. There was many similarities between the book and movie including the ghosts, Scrooge, and the places they visit. The ghosts had many similarities including how the ghost appears, their clothing, and their accessories.

A Christmas Carol is the classic story by Charles Dickens about the transformation of Ebenezer Scrooge. He is guided by three spirits, as they conduct him on his travels through time, teaching him to move beyond his earlier cruelty and hatred of mankind. With the guidance of the spirits, Scrooge learns the true meaning of family, love and Christmas. The spirits all influenced Scrooge in unique ways and taught him different lessons. The spirit that was the most significant in Scrooge’s transformation was the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come.

The Grinch Who stole Christmas has been a hit movie for decades. It started off as a book and was made into a cartoon and a movie. While the book and the movie have some differences the fact that the grinch is known to hate Christmas, he steals the presents from everyone and the setting is the same in both the book and the movie make them somewhat similar. The first similarity between the book and the movie is that the Grinch has been known to hate Christmas. The book states, “ The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!” This is similar to the movie because in the movie the Grinch hates Christmas. When he was in school he was bullied around Christmas and he now hates all the Christmas activities.

It’s a Wonderful Life is about a man who thinks his life is in ruins and is complete mess after his business recked, and his guardian angel shows him life without what he’s done. The Christmas Carol is about a wealthy snobby man who loves his money more than anything, gets a visit from Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Future and they show him the true meaning of Christmas.

But this isn’t the only instance in which Scrooge his character development in the movie. Some more examples would be when Scrooge dances with his maid or sings with the carolers. In the book neither of these events occur, the movie added them to further emphasize that Scrooge had changed as a person. One important similarity between the book and the movie version of A Christmas Carol would be Scrooge’s relationship with both his nephew and his employee. In the beginning Scrooge writes off everything both of the two say, but in the end he becomes close with both of them and their families.

The disney version of A Christmas Carol, featuring Jim Carrey, and the book written by Charles Dickens are both about Ebenezer Scrooge turning his life around for the better. The book and movie have many similarities. One similarity would be that Scrooge is shown to be a monster until the end when he proves himself otherwise. By doing this, the story shows that no matter how bad people believe you are, don’t be afraid to change because it is never to late.
