He is known to everyone outside of his family as ‘Chuck,’ a name he has always hated. It was in high school where he made attempts at individuation that he started referring to himself as Chuck. Only by an accidental dubbing taken place during an interview in 1968 that this stuck as his professional art name. I never can memorize.” He developed his own system of memorizing by sensory deprivation and used art as a way to prove that he wasn't exaggerating his condition.

Made me petrified, frightened, terrified that I was not approaching to be able to escape, and that I’d just be a homeless man. Because I believed that I could never find happiness, nor ever have found passion in anything. This consequently made me begin to envision that I was going to become a failure.
