My responsibilities as a member of a Case Competition team have prepared me for the responsibilities of a City Year member because I am able to work on a team with people from different backgrounds as well as analyze complex problems and generate/develop solutions. On all of my teams, I've worked with people of different majors; such as Marketing, History, and Applied Mathematics; and diverse backgrounds and cultures. Each team was unique and every member brought their talents and perspectives to the table, which was incredible to work with and extremely helpful to design a solution. I learned how to work well with others and learned what approaches don't work well in diverse groups. As a City Year member, knowing how to be a team player on
My junior year of high school I had decided that I would get more involved in school activities. I had been a member of both HOSA, a medical club that focuses on competitions and INTERACT, a club that embraces different cultures and people as well as focusing on helping out the community. I became deeply invested and passionate in both of these clubs. I decided I no longer wanted to be just a member. I wanted to have a say in the decision process and events for the following year so I ran for officer elections in both.
People always say that the team is only as strong as its weakest player. Meaning that I had to help my teammates do the best that they could do. Therefore the weakest player was still a strong player compared to others. I could not have made it all about me because I can not play all nine positions at one time. Something very important about that comes with team work is getting along with the teammates. For a while I did not get along with one of my team members. I am not going to lie all we wanted for each other was to see each other down. Again my coach was not having that on her team. She pulled me aside one day and talked to me and said “The only way that our team is going to get somewhere was if you and you know who get it together.”. In these few words I knew that if i wanted my team to succeed I was going to have to but my feelings about my teammate to the side and focus on the bigger picture. I had to work with the team to put aside our differences and do what was best for my
For example, I was elected to be the student-body president of my high school, and I was also elected to several other offices, such as treasurer of the Science National Honor Society and fundraiser chair of the National Honor Society. As the student-body president, every day I get to make my voice heard to the entire school, as well as be the voice of the student body. I also was named the Editor-in-Chief of my school’s yearbook. As the Yearbook Editor-in-Chief, I get to interact with the diverse multitude of students at my high school. All of these roles that I have accepted allow me to span across different interests and bridge a seemingly wide gap to connect the people of my diverse high school.
You have to be a team player because you need to be able to work along with other support staff and attorneys to make sure the work gets done. You need to be able to handle a high-stress situation because sometimes the work can become overwhelming and you have to cope with the stress and complete the work. You have to have the ability to meet deadlines because failing to meet them could cause the attorney to lose the case. You have to have the ability to prioritize tasks by deadline and importance.
I have been involved in Science Olympiad since seventh grade, but I did not hold a defined leadership role until elected president at the end of my sophomore year. Initially, I was hesitant to run; my primary opponent was the current president and had all the advantages of an incumbent. However, I was not deterred; I saw signs of mismanagement firsthand: team-wide procrastination, overuse of funds, and stagnation.
A prosperous restaurant needs greeters, servers, cooks, and so forth, as well as the managers. Their ability to work as a team is crucial to its success. You may not have the same interests or beliefs of those you work with, but that cannot stand in the way of carrying out your job. The same principles and strategies are relevant and important in sports, and they can be started and nurtured through involvement in organized youth sports activities.
When the other team members strayed from their position, or were confused on the task at hand, I was there to get them back on track and productive once again. For our specific scenario, we had to decide upon a database to use. Each of us researched a different database, and compared results as a group. When two members had begun to fight over which database seemed most beneficial, I stepped in and proposed that we logically examine each database together and vote on a final decision. Under my leadership, and the amazing capabilities of every student on the team, we thoroughly impressed the executives, receiving honors for our work.
In many aspects of life, it is essential that you work with other individuals as a team. You can work in a team whether it is school, work, or your personal life. This year I started working for Inner City Education Foundation public charter schools, specifically ICEF Inglewood Elementary Academy. The school has approximately 40 staff members that were all placed together by the director of the school. There are multiple classifications at my job such as instructional assistants, teachers, office staff, intervention specialists, operations, and janitors, but we all operate as one unit. Through the five stages of team development, our team developed and continues to develop into a successful team.
I am currently the Secretary of the Senior Class and the Secretary of the National Honor Society. I have represented my class through Student Council since freshman year, and I was elected as Junior Delegate of the National Honor Society last year. I put multiple hours into both of these activities each week, and I plan to put a lot of effort into the position I am applying for (Entertainment Executive Chair).
There are many different similarities and differences between the four levels of law enforcement. The four different levels are Federal, State, County, and Municipal/City. I will be talking about the level of Federal and Municipal/City. A federal law enforcement agency is an organizational unit, or subunit, of the federal government with the principle functions of prevention, detection, and investigation of crime and the apprehension of alleged offenders (www.bjs.gov).
In my senior year of high school I took AP Government and we decided to participate in a program called We The People, a constitutional debate competition. Once we reached the national level of the competition I was placed in a group that was less than motivated to win. It was quite difficult because as the group leader I had to make sure everything was done correctly and in the beginning I was forced to do everything on my own. Thankfully after time I was able to motivate my group members and push us to perform fairly well in the competition. I learned a lot of thing from this experience; I learned that I was capable of more than I had originally thought and that I was extremely good at what I did. I also learned that with the right motivation
Since you can't expect a new team to amaze when it first comes together, putting together a robust team that functions well was a challenge. The second challenge was the fact that we were all the same age and almost all had the same level of experience, which put an extra burden on me trying to influence the team and make them believe in me and trust me as a leader.
The Frist nation people have more emphasis on the importance of community, they primarily think of themselves as members of a group and this concept is also connected to my own personal tribal connection. We have different groups and for one to be identify you need to belong to a tribal group, in order for people to understand your origin of existences. And it also create a supportive force in time of needs.
