The Civil Rights was an era of colored people being treated unfairly and unjustly. The Jim Crow laws at the local and state level barred African Americans from classrooms, bathrooms, theaters, juries, and legislature. Despite all these barriers there were people who decided to change the way white folks treated African Americans. People such as a Jackie Robinson, Muhammad Ali, and Jim Brown made history through the game. The Civil Rights is taught to K-12 grade students through all sorts of literature, however most books were based on male athletes in the civil rights other than female athletes that stand out such as Serena Williams. The children’s book about civil rights had complicated language that children wouldn’t be able to understand. The other books for higher grades had little or no information at all about how these phenomenal players change the way the game was played.

Brown was said to be the best football player of his time. If people wanted to know how to play football all they would have to do is watch Brown. In 1966 at the age of 30 Brown called a quits to his football career but he maintained active in African American communities. Jim Brown donated his time by helping people build skills and remained an active participant towards anti-gang campaigns. The books on Jim Brown are mostly about his NFL career and very few provide his recognizable donation toward his community. There were no children’s books on Jim Brown, therefore children are unable to be informed about this amazing human
Jackie Robinson was one of the most historically well known people in the civil rights movement. So as the first man to integrate major league baseball, Jackie Robinson had a game changing impact on the way the game was played. Having the courage to fight for what is right, Jackie broke the imaginary color barrier that has covered major league baseball for years. Through his resiliency and tenaciousness in the face of seemingly unconquerable odds, Jackie Robinson set the course for African Americans to continue the expansion for equality and true freedom while he was becoming one of the greatest Major League baseball players in history.
Jackie Robinson started playing baseball in 1947. He was the first player who played in the black man league and joined the white man team. He was used to playing in the Negro League and the style of play; it was a hard transition for Jackie to get used to the white man league. Jackie was the main symbol of hope to millions of people.
Later on, the Brooklyn Dodgers hired him to play. At first, he faced a lot of prejudice. He didn't care and sooner, people loved him. He was everywhere; there was articles about him in the newspaper, there were pictures of him everywhere, and everyone knew him. He was an amazing player. Jackie Robinson was the first African American to play in the MLB. Back then many people's point of view about African Americans was that they had some things, but the things should be worse than what the things white people had, and because of that he was proud yet uneasy because he would get a lot of hate for playing, and he did. The thing is he didn’t only get hate, but he also got threats against him and his family to physically harm him,“The hate mail piled up. There were threats against me and my family and even out-and-out attempts at physical harm to me.” Being in the MLB was hard and he could’ve given up, but he didn’t. Jackie Robinson stayed strong and he changed our point of view about African Americans not doing things that only white people could do and he helped our country change for the better
