Cole's Case Summary

In the stimulus material, Charles Embry, an Ex-PG&E employee gave Erin private information about the pollution in the water. Embry used to work in the factory, he claims that most papers were useless until some involved water contamination and chromium, Embry stated he was told to destroy these papers, yet he gave Erin this information to revenge his cousin. It is known to be ethically correct in terms of society, because of the fact that he was seeking for a social good; yet unethical because all employees should seek the welfare of each organization they are working at.

In the video, Brendan is a diagnosis of septa-optic dysarthria and cognitive delay. He has pitch and loudness problems. His voice is hoarse. He has the weakness of tongue, lip, teeth and jaw movement so the vocal fold does not vibrate too much. Also, his speech is slurred that people may difficult to understand (receptive issue). In Ben Mikaelsen's novel, Touching Spirit Bear, the protagonist, Cole Matthews, is a troubled 15-year old teen, who has received the title as a juvenile delinquent. His traumatizing past has turned him into an angry, stubborn and rude figure. Due to an unacceptable action, Cole is then shipped to a remote island, in Southeast Alaska, to embark in an experience that can possibly give him the chance to "change". At first, Cole struggles to change from a juvenile delinquent, but as the novel progresses, Cole slowly becomes someone he never knew he could become. He encounters a variety of challenges and obstacles that teach him many life lessons.

Nelson Hart is a Newfoundland man who was convicted in 2007 of drowning his 3 year old twin daughters. The 45 year old was held in prison for more than 9 years before being released in 2014.

The case was brought to DCFS attention when a reporter stated on 7/11/17, OPWI attempted to obtain an emergency order of protection on behalf of Kiara (age 7). I had picked the idea of Cole laughing insanely by the fire because it showed what he was capable of doing when he wasn’t able to control his anger. This scene displays the “Old Cole”, who wanted to cause trouble and abscond from the island. He wasn’t taught the ways to calm himself down, like the ancestor rock, or the wading into the pool and staying there until he was numb. Cole hadn’t known of the background of his father either, how he was abused by his parents. Additionally, Cole hadn’t known how to forgive or heal, such as helping Peter, and forgiving himself.

The underlying issues in both cases are racial discrimination. For Cheryl Boulden in the affirmative action case the issue is being “an African American woman among the good ol’ boys in Indiana.” She was recruited because of race and her permanent handicap was seen as an asset for a diversity program lacking any. Yet these qualities made her a target of racism. Susan Finn’s ethnic discrimination presents a dilemma of how to deal with a contract physician’s abusive behavior “toward Hispanics and female staff as well as patients” (Reeves, 2006, p. 79). While the issues of racial and gender discrimination is not unusual, the failure of these agencies to address multiple complaints is.

“Why can’t you just believe me when I say I’m sorry and won’t ever hurt anybody again?” (pg. 81) Cole, recites that he is sorry once more, but again, nobody believes him. Justin Ross Harris, 33, a father who allegedly left his son in a hot car to die, has once more appeared in court. The prosecutors of the case have alleged that Harris purposely left his almost two-year-old son strapped into his car seat in June of 2014. Before this, he took him for breakfast to Chick-fil-A. Later, Harris told investigators of criminal law that he did not realize Cooper stayed locked inside the vehicle while he went to work.

You may think the justice system does a good job with convicting the guilty, but after reading timothy Cole story you may retract your pervious thought. Timothy Cole was a 26 year old college student at the notable Texas tech. Cole was also a veteran who spent 2 years in the army .on march 24,1985 Michele Mallin who was also a student at Texas tech, had parked her car when an individual had approached her car inquiring about jumper cables. The individual that approached her forced her into her car and had driven her to the outskirts of town and proceeded to rape her and fled via foot. Ms.Mallin proceeded the next day to the local police to do a police report they took her report, they also proceeded to do a rape kit on her. Which typically
