Through the lense of any camera bestowed upon me, I find it my duty to capture the beauty in the things around me. While in college I hope to learn the fundamentals of Photography, gain more practice and become a professional photographer. My passion for photography is strong and I’ve been able to get a lot of experience with the camera in and out of school. I've photographed events for my church, I’ve been in the multimedia program at my school for three years as well the school yearbook. I’m currently the Editor in Chief. While traveling with my camera I hope to meet new people which will allow me to learn about new cultures and their traditions. I’ll be able to get a real life experience by eating, speaking and living how other
As a young child, I often transformed my grandma's dwelling into my own personal canvas. Fueled by morning cartoons, I would concoct detailed illustrations of the oddities in my imagination and intricate pictures of my family and surrounding. It was evident I had been blessed. I was never discouraged from my routine doodling either, just encouraged to channel that creativity on to anything but our walls. When I started public schooling some years later I was introduced to the scope of what art really was. Painting, drawing, photography-It was a world unknown to me then. The way we experimented with every medium early on was perfect for my inquisitive nature. For years I invested in what I now consider to be my craft, with the guidance of numerous
From a young age, I knew art was what I wanted to pursue. I’ve had a love of photography since I was a little girl, and my older brother, who was a photographer at the time, nourished this passion. He taught me how to use a camera before I had even graduated elementary school. I took every chance I could get to take photos. From the moment I bought my first DSLR camera in seventh grade, it never left my sight. My mother called it my ‘security blanket’ and everyone at school called me ‘camera girl’. It felt like a dream come true when I was accepted into the Digital Arts program at Stafford Technical Center; it was like opening a door to another world, one that understood how deep this passion ran and how far it really could take me. In Digital Arts, we study all types of art. Although my adoration for photography lives on, I ended up falling in love with graphic design also.
Sometimes we learn something because it sparks our interest without knowing the journey we’re about to embark. It might be a short journey that can leave us wanting more or an extensive one in which it’s not something you just learn, but it becomes a passion. Without even knowing it, I started my journey learning how to play the violin out of curiosity and it ended up becoming something I am strongly passionate about.
In the passed four years I have realized my passion for learning. Though like every other high school student I love summer vacation, at end of August I am excited and ready to go back to school. I have realized the power of learning and understood that knowledge can take you where you want to go. Not only that but I understand, being a middle-class girl, how lucky I am to have the opportunity of school and the option of college. Nevertheless, it is not that easy. College is expensive where ever you go and no one has thousands of dollars lying around to pay for it all. I have been blessed to have parents who saved some money to help me get through college, yet I will still have debt. Having a passion for learning and going into a science or
I’ve been fascinated with with the arts my entire life, I was drawn to the emotion that can be produced without any words.
In conclusion, I was given the opportunity to room with girls from Peru, Hong Kong and other places around the country. I’ve gained lifelong friendships with people in Africa, France, and New Zealand. I was also able to teach as well as learn from different cultures. Nevertheless, this experience has opened the door to a horizon of possibilities, from this experience I learned that I would like to major in travel and tourism with a minor in art and experience cultures first hand by exploring my horizon while traveling and learning about different
Attach a small photograph (3.5 x 5 inches or smaller) of something important to you and explain its significance.
If I were to point out an academic subject that inspires me, it would be photography. To me, photography has become something I’m very passionate about that I’ve developed from the classroom. At first, I had taken photography in order to college requirements out of the way, however; I grew to appreciate the subject much more than I had expected. This was because I found photography very engaging and fun, and that I had a way to creatively express myself. Inside the classroom, I developed the skills and knowledge necessary for the subject. Outside of photography class, the subject evolved into side hobby I enjoy putting time into during my spare time. I’ve even considered at one point becoming a professional photographer as a future career.
Curiosity and passion. These are two things that matters to me the most. Throughout my years at high school, I have grown stronger in an environment where I am challenged every day. It is in my nature to push myself towards excellence, in both my academic and extracurricular quests. I love innovation and the application of classroom knowledge to real situations.
The beauty of nature is remarkable. I cherish every moment I am outside admiring the landscape surrounding me. I also enjoy capturing the beauty of nature to share with my friends and family. For my 17th birthday, I received a camera and I was beyond excited to wander the paths throughout my neighborhood; I immediately began to take photos and capture the elegance of nature. Although it is only a hobby and I do not plan on pursuing a career as a professional photographer, I still relish taking photos for my own pleasure and for other people. For example, when my sister became engaged with her boyfriend of eleven years, she suggested that I take her engagement photos; I was shocked and honored. I do not believe that my photography skills are
Late elementary school afternoons at 2601 Parkside Drive were where my thirst for exploring the world’s clandestine beauties blossomed into something new. Whilst others engrossed themselves in competitive foursquare and portable video games, I immersed myself in sketching images of places I dreamt of visiting. All I needed was a pencil in my hand, a picturesque landscape on my mind, and my Canson sketchbook on the table. The possibilities were then endless.
Sometimes life is about spinning troublesome experiences into noteworthy adventures. Ever since I was little, I knew I wanted to change people’s lives, but the puzzling question was always whose lives I wanted to positively affect. The answer spontaneously came to me during my early years of high school. When I started attending a specialized high school in New York City, old friends began to tell me that I will never be someone of importance in life, and that minorities will always live in the shadows of others. I was constantly advised not to dream too big, because no matter how ardently I would try, nobody will ever take me seriously or accept me for who I am. I have always enjoyed engaging in intellectual activities, gaining insight from meeting new people, and learning new things about myself in the process, but my passion for learning was once hindered by the discouraging ridicule that people from my neighborhood called ‘reality’. I was so disheartened until I had an epiphany; I wanted to change the outlook of other underprivileged teens on life and restore their hope and faith in humanity by proving that with hard work, self-confidence, and benevolence they can also live up to their dreams.
“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” ― Edgar Degas
I wrote my first short story when I was eight-years-old. It evolved into a complex story as the years went by, and that story will someday be a children’s book. I will admit, though, that I did not always want to major in English. In second grade, my weeks consisted of wrapping my dog’s “broken” legs in toilet paper and researching diseases and cures. Other weeks included writing short stories and attempting to teach my dogs how to read. When literature became a higher priority, my desire to become a physician faded into a desire to become a writer.
My goal as a graphic design is to create works that will cause someone to question everything. I recently have gotten into design, and fell hopelessly in love. Until two years ago, I did not know what a graphic designer was or that I could be one. I was lost, unsure about my future or who I wanted to be, I just knew that I was creative and very kinetically driven. I just wanted to move. A friend of mine introduced me to the book “Watching Words Move”, and suddenly I knew who I was and what I needed. The visualization of words doing what I always wanted them to do, move. I became obsessed. I wanted to create a mesmerizing typographical mirage of movement. I searched for what I needed and Graphic Designer answered. When I applied to SCAD, I
