“THE COLOR OF LAW” Reaction As a Legal Management Student who will soon be proceeding to Law, I have learn and realized so many things about being a lawyer when I finished reading the Color of Law by Mark Gimenez. When I was still a little child my dream was to become best lawyer so I can help those unfortunate people. I always thought being a lawyer is about helping, defending, and giving justice to my fellow Filipinos. I also thought that when I become a lawyer I can have lots of money to provide my needs and as to my family. I also thought that those lawyers were the best because they gamble their lives every day just to defend the citizens of its country. Then I have realized that it is just all in my imagination because in the …show more content…
I have learned from this that when I become a lawyer in the future I would do everything to defend my client and do the right thing but in a right way. Fifth, I have realized from the story that they portrait or described lawyers as cheaters, dishonest, and immoral. I think that this is not a good example to those young aspiring lawyers to be. I have learned that as of today being a student aspiring to be a lawyer in the future, I would do my best to practice law in a lawful and in a moral way. I would also start to respect the law by putting God first so I would be guided on what is best way to solve without being a distraction to the society. I think that if lawyers do the right thing with good and moral intention then we could have a peaceful society and justice would be given fairly. I have learned that being a lawyer with good moral character is what a lawyer should be proud of and not the multiple numbers of cases he had won because at the end of the day people do not usually care about you but you instead could make yourself proud of what you did. I have seen that Scott did not totally believe in God’s grace on how he would handle with his life. I believe that God is the center of everything so we must put him first in everything that we do. I believe that with every profession when you just trust God, he would help you be the most successful person. I have seen from Scott’s situation that he did not trust God or pray
A great career to pursue for a person who strongly desires to help people is a lawyer. Lawyers are people who practice law, and most of them specialize in a specific field in which they decide is their passion. Within the career of a lawyer, there are many options to choose from to specialize in. Some options include the practice of family law, environmental law, tax law, criminal law, and immigration law among many others. The
I took a field trip in college to the local courthouse where we got to pick the brains of the attorneys who worked there. What I found out there was shocking to say the least. I discovered that the work load for public defenders is so high that a lot of cases take months to be presented. They also said most lawyers coming out of law school do not want to be public defenders. The idea to fight for the underdog and to give him or her the best shot they have to get the right decisions in their court case is what being a lawyer is all about. I understand when being a public defender, your cliental isn’t always the cream of the crop, but just because they have had a hard life and made some bad choices doesn’t mean that they should get any less of an attorney. However, someone who has done the most heinous of crimes, but has all the money in the world to pay for a top of the line lawyer usually will be found not guilty. I was told in court cases, the facts speak the truth, no matter what they are, but it takes a great lawyer to deliver those facts home to a jury of our peers. As a result, we see countless times where high prices attorneys get their clients off due to the fact they are just better trained and have more experience finding loopholes in the law. The passion for the truth should always set people free. What we need are more people who are willing to be great lawyers and help those who are less fortunate. I believe that is what I am being called to do. I understand to become a great lawyer you will hit snags and fall down. However, I will keep moving because there will come a day where a man or women will need legal help and it will be my time to step up and get the job
I never wanted to be a lawyer. All my life I have had one passion – a passion so fervent and ingrained in my entire being that I never considered doing anything else. For as long as I can remember, I have loved nothing more than the written
From when I was ten until I was fifteen, I wanted to become a lawyer. I’ve always had impressive public speaking skills, a persuasive personality, and a knack for debate, so it seemed like the perfect fit for me. However, upon a taking a law class my sophomore year, I realized that lawyering might not be exactly what I expected it to be. As I learned about the different laws and the complexities of the court system I was
Last week, I was given the opportunity to speak in front of 450 lawyers from all over the country. As horrifying as it sounds, I was not a tad bit nervous. After completing my speech I was able to speak to a couple lawyers, each talking to me a little about the particular law they study. I then shared my passion on becoming an Immigration Lawyer, one of the lawyers smilled and said, " that is such an honorable law." All I can say is, yes, yes it is.... I am going to be an amazing lawyer!
After high school, I am going to attend Texas A&M to get an undergraduate degree in public economics and after that I will pursue further education at the Texas A&M Law School. I am going to get a degree in law so that when I graduate I can be a partner in my family's law firm. For the past couple of years I have toyed with the thought of either going to join the marines or being a lawyer but in the end I came to the conclusion that becoming a lawyer was the best bet for me; three generations of my family have done it and I would like to fill their shoes and carry out tradition.
amazing lawyer.” he said, with such a bright smile on his face, he really means it. The judge says goodbye, and our class leaves the courthouse with bright, shining smiles.
(“Being a Lawyer”) Criminal lawyers provide the elements that will help allow a jury to find a criminal guilty or not guilty. (pg. 27) Most lawyers work is done outside of the courtroom, so it is important to make sure you choose a major that will help strengthen your reading and writing skills. (p 17) As for law school, it is tough, especially the first year, but it is doable with hard work and dedication. (Christine Bachmann) There are also multiple tests that must be taken and passed. These tests include the Law school admissions test, the college composition and modular test, and the bar exam. (“Steps to becoming a lawyer in California”) Although this might seem like a lot of work, the excitement of the ever-changing job itself is worth it.
In the United States, where you live is highly dependent on two factors: race and socioeconomic status. All throughout the 20th century, housing was very limited to the African-American community and was often pushed aside from white neighborhoods. Because of de jure segregation, African-Americans and whites were not able to live in the same neighborhood. If an African-American were to find a loophole and secure a house in a white neighborhood, many times, they were hated upon and received verbal and physical threats. Additionally, not only were African-Americans unable to live peacefully where ever they like, they were also denied workers’ rights and were unable to leave the plantations. As brought up in chapters nine and ten in The Color of Law, there are various cases of African-American were attacked just for being African-American. The theories of symbolic interactionism, social inequality, institutional discrimination, and structural functionalism, all correspond to the de jure segregation of African-Americans as depicted in The Color of Law.
From a very early age I’ve always had ambition to become grow up to be in a position of power and successes. Durig high school I decide that for my college career I will pursue criminal justice and go to school to become a lawyer and criminal defense attorney. My interest first came to me from the movies I watch on TV .right then I knew that in 10 years from now I will be wearing nice suits and executing the fullest extent of the law in the name of justice. A lawyer is someone who practices the law, as an attorney. The system of law we have set in place in our society is a set of rules of conduct established by our federal and state governments. But to become a lawyer without going to law school is not necessarily impossible. There are a few cases when you can qualify to take the bar exam without attending law school. It varies from state to state across the United States.
It’s not always case-breaking finds at one o’clock in the morning, exhilarating oral arguments or massive jury trials. Instead, days are spent crafting discovery plans, drafting and editing briefs, receiving criticism from colleagues, outlining arguments and reading filings from opposing parties all while trying to balance the multitude of other aspects of daily life. A Civil Action addressed this truth. It addressed the financial difficulties certain career paths can take and also addressed the effects a legal career can have on personal relationships. It is, of course, difficult to generalize the application of one story to the entire field, but a realistic understanding is more useful than ideas of grandeur. Knowing this reality prior to really beginning my undergraduate career allowed me to remain focused, develop the skills I needed, and maintain a realistic understanding of how to prepare for law school. Every class I completed, every group I participated in and every job I’ve held has been in furtherance of my goals to become an attorney. This lesson from A Civil Action helped provide a necessary
My career goal is to enter the legal profession as a General Defense Lawyer upon graduation from college. My research into this profession has found that it requires time, effort, dedication and hard work. In order to make this a profitable career, you must be willing to put in the four aforementioned items as well as present a strong case for your client and confidence to the court. Lawyers are often mistaken as greedy, deceptive, and underhanded. This perception is given to the profession by a few unethical or self-serving attorneys that will do whatever is needed to earn a dollar. However, being an ethical lawyer takes practice, morals, and determination.
Religion plays an important role in Scott’s life. He often uses quotes out of the bible or religious quotes to teach others lessons or give them advice. Two of
The career that I have chosen is to become a lawyer, either an employment lawyer or immigration lawyer. Since I was young, my uncle in law, who is a lawyer himself, influenced me to pursue a career in the law field. Being 10 years old at the time, I remember my uncle in law taking me to courtrooms after everyone has left and I was amazed on how the environment, since it was my first time in a court room and having a crazy imagination. Sadly, I never saw him in action, but many stories have been shared since his time as a lawyer. In order to become a lawyer, many skills are needed, for instance analytical ability, attention to detail, logical reasoning, persuasiveness and writing ability.
Law is of fundamental importance to our country, as well as shaping our modern evolving society. I felt that doing a Law degree can be both satisfying and help society in the future by
