When you think of animals in a zoo, you think they are taken care of so well and that they are way better off in the zoo than in the wild. Have you ever considered that to animals the wild is just like us living a normal life in the country or city, and the zoo is like when we are trapped somewhere or in prison. Sure they don’t have to worry about where or when are they going to get the food and water because in the zoo it is just handed to them. That is why animals spend so many years adapting to do. Zoos deprive animals of many things that they were made to do and some of these things make the animals lives more enjoyable. First, the cages and habitats are not suitable for the animals in so many ways. Most of them do not replicate the habitats that they originate from, places like the savanna or the tundra well enough. If they are not replicated enough, they may not meet some of the basic needs that the animals must have to help them live a healthy, happy life. Sometimes the cages are small and confined, and animals needs space to move around freely. What is worse is that sometimes they are all by themselves with no one to play with, so most of them just lay around all day bored with nothing to do. The habitats you see the animals being kept during the day are often different from where they are kept at night. You see at least where they are kept during the day has grass, trees, rocks, and sometimes toys along with some room to move around. Where they are kept at night
Animals kept in zoos has always been a controversial decision. Zoos have been around for 4,000 years. Many people argue about the impact a zoo has on an animal and the world. According to the article, ”Zoos: The Historical Debate”, “Some people argue that zoos play an important role in conservation of endangered animals, others say that zoos do more harm than good.” I believe that zoos play an important role in conservation. They also educate us about animals. Finally, zoos entertain us in many ways. In my opinion, zoos impact the world in a good way.
According to the passage “The Impact of Animal Protection” it says “In the wild, animals share territory with other species, and the idea of survival of the fittest is very apparent.” it also mentions that the innate instincts they have to survive can be hurt and sometimes gone if they are kept in captivity for too long. The animals are more likely to be hurt by predators because they forget the their natural ways from when they were wild and untouched by the human kind. Others may say that it’s great for many of the to be in the animals to be in zoos mainly for the entertainment to them when they go to see the animals. However I still feel that it is not necessary for them to be locked away in the captivity of zoos for human needs they have their own needs to you
Can you tell me where animals came from? Yeah, that’s right, they came from this magical place called the wild. Honestly if we didn’t have zoos some species would be not even surviving but thriving, Because the zoos do not have nearly enough space for the animals. Compared to their homes in the wild, the animals have considerably less space in captivity. The fake homes and environments can interfere with the animals natural routine as well, take elephants for example, they are used to walking, all day, i mean 30 miles a day and they can't do that very easily in a zoo. The consequence of this can be animals getting arthritis or other diseases. I know i talk about how we treat the animals and what i personally think about it, but let's take a second to think “what are the animals thinking?”
Zoos are home to many animals in captivity which they are different from their natural habitat. Many animals suffer when they are in captivity because the zoos are very different from their natural habitat for example some zoos do not have places for relaxation of animals or the foods are different also many animal live alone.
Zoos take giant roles to protect animals. In the magazines I read, "The Stripes Will Survive", and "The Zoos Go Wild," and the video that I watched called "Behind the Scenes with the National Zoo's Lion Cubs.", there are ways that they help the animals.
Being separated from their natural habitat it affects the growth, mood, and behavior. In zoos they aren’t able to do natural activities they should, such as to hunt, migrate, mate, and do other things they usually could do. Zoos don’t allow animals that are born at the zoo to see what the wild is like. If for some reason they get released in the wild then they would have no chance of surviving because they can’t do natural activities for themselves. Human amusement is another con of zoos, while visiting zoos people don’t actually care about the well being of the animals.
As claimed in the LCA article, ”Animals in zoos are forced to live in artificial, stressful, and downright boring conditions”(User, Super). Evidence shows time to time that animals are being affected by zoos. There are many things hidden behind the facilities, that many people do not know about. The animals are being held in conditions that no animal should ever live in. Even though some zoos do focus on helping the animals, they are not as beneficial to the animal because they are not provided with the proper care and attention they need and zoos do not try to fix their problems.
It’s human nature to have compassion towards animals and an instinct to react if they are abused or mistreated. This human nature is the foundation to the controversial topic of whether zoos are ethical to have. With this issue, there are various reasons that promote the importance of zoos along with reasons to why they can be considered immoral. Both sides are essentially equal and fighting for the same result, the well-being of the animal both physically and mentally. It’s difficult to determine which side is right, but I believe that zoos are beneficial to not only humans but the animals as well.
Imagine being taken away from your family and being thrown into a small glass cage to be overlooked by untrusted beings for the rest of your life. How would you feel? Angry? Scared? Annoyed? All of the animals in zoos feel like this. This shows that animals are not meant to be in zoos. They are not treated well and are only used for show and to make money.
One of the most fun, visually amazing functions to visit are zoo's. Growing up as a kid going to the zoo was so much fun and basically guaranteed a great day out. People have been complaining and questioning the role of zoo's for a long time now. Some claim that it actually kills the animals off faster. Others claim that zoo's actually help protect and preserve the lives of these animals. Only one can make a reasonable argument by studying sources, and finding out statistics. Based off of the articles, "The Stripes Will Survive", "The Zoos Go Wild", and "Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment", we can truly get in-depth analysis about the role zoo's play.
Zoos may seem fun to visit and exciting to see the animals; but what you don’t see is the suffering and depression that lies in these helpless creatures. There are many arguments whether or not zoos are good or bad, and if they should be removed or kept. Several think that zoos should be abolished or at least very much improved, due to animal cruelty. While, others want zoos to stay because it is beneficial for the animals and people. I strongly believe that zoos aren’t good for both the public and animals for numerous reasons.
Zoos across the world claim to be safe, suitable homes that replicate habitats of animals that are usually found in the wild. However, there is no possible way for wild habitats to be replicated well enough for animals in captivity to thrive, animals are often separated and withheld from living as they would in the wild. Despite their argument of being educational for visitors, the only thing they are teaching the public is that it is ok to take animals out of the wild and lock them up for their own enjoyment. Regardless of these claims, zoos are inhumane.
Think about having to live your whole life in a cage, where you are surrounded by people you are not familiar with. Would you like that? But this is how live is for animals in the zoos.
Zoos are many things. It can be a place for family fun and a good place to visit over the weekend, yet there are so many things going on inside zoos that the public fails to notice. For example, the article “10 Facts about Zoos” by CAPS discusses the lack of enclosure space and states, “Tigers and lions have around 18,000 times less space in zoos than they would in the wild. Polar bears have one million times less space.” This reveals that animals in zoos are placed in enclosures that are way too small for them and not even remotely close to what they experience in the wild. “Elephants are used to roaming miles upon miles a day in large groups, yet in zoos they
There have been a lot of problems with animals in zoos. It has gotten to the point where zoos are hated and looked upon as a places of animal torture. Are zoos really that bad? Turns out, they are. They do not have enough space, they do not allow the animals to communicate with each other, and they sell the animals to cruel circuses.
