United States Americans have always learned about the constitution, but they don’t know everything about it. What most people don’t know is that the U.S Constitution is based off the Iroquois Constitution. The Iroquois is a group of Indians that were having conflict between their five nations; because of this they created a constitution to unite and give structure to their nations. Their constitution is mostly different than the U.S. Constitution, but there are a few similarities between the two.

The Constitution of the United States was written in 1787 at the Constitutional Convention, where it was held in Philadelphia. It was written by a group of people known as “Farmers,” or the “Founding Fathers,” and few of the most famous Founding Fathers were George Washington (The first president of the USA), Thomas Jefferson (The first vice president and the third president of the USA) James Madison (The fourth president of the USA), Samuel Adams, and Benjamin Franklin. The old government, the Articles of Confederation was not working as it supposed to be, it was vulnerable and cannot secure and defend the new born nation and for that reason the constitution of the united states saw the light.

A constitution is a written document that sets forth the fundamental rules by which a society is governed. Throughout the course of history the United States has lived under two Constitutions since the British-American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain in 1776. First in line was the Articles of Confederation (1789-1789) followed by the Constitution of United States of America (1789-present). The Articles of Confederation was the first formal written Constitution of America that specified how the national government was to operate. Unfortunately, the Articles did not last long. Under the words of the Article’s power was limited; Congress could make decisions, but had no power to enforce them. Also the articles stated

America’s founding fathers were more directly inspired by listening to stories, visiting with the Iroquois leaders, and being able to witness the government in action. As a matter of fact, a few Iroquois chiefs attended the Continental Congress in 1776 during the drafting of the U.S. Constitution. They would help the founding fathers construct a set of laws and guidelines that would help unite the 13 colonies, which was similar to their own

Each constitution has its own laws and rules, constitutions have been around for years. Every government needs a constitution to survive, or it would be chaos. No one would have rules or laws to follow, which would be madness. Even though the Iroquois Constitution helped build the United States (U.S.) Constitution, it does not mean that they are identical. Both of these constitutions have some alikes and differences.

     The Constitutions of both the Iroquois and the United States have similarities and differences between them. The Iroquois constitution came earlier in history than the U.S one did. Some of the same ideas that were in the Iroquois’ constitution were carried over to some of the ideas that we use in our government today. In this paper I will compare and contrast these ideas as they relate with one another. The Constitution was originally called the Virgina Plan and was wrote by James Madison. It then went to the Constitutional convention and was modified by fifty-five delegates ordered by George Washington. The Constitution was first signed by William Jackson, and there was thirty-nine more people who followed in Jackson's steps. There were twelve states that sent people to the convention. Rhode Island did not send anyone to the convention.

Constitutions have been around for many years. The first ones on record go back as far as the fifteenth century. There are many uses for them, though often enough are used to outline laws and basic rights of the people under that government. Two very different, yet very alike constitutions are the Iroquois and the United States Constitutions. They have many differences, but just as many similarities.

The Articles of Confederation left most of the power with the state governments, which many people approved of. However, many problems were created by this law of the land. A convention was called in Philadelphia in 1787 to revise the Articles where they eventually scrapped it and wrote a new, but similar in ideals, document which is now known as the U.S. Constitution. The Article of Confederation was the building block that created our Constitution. It was prefect as well a lot of things our government creates. In addition here are differences between the two documents.

The article of confederation is a document that the United States of America made in Philadelphia 1787. This document established the functions of the national government after it declared independence from Great Britain. This had a problem though, it did not help defend against tyranny. The need for a stronger Federal government, it soon became apparent and eventually led to the constitution. The constitution was written in 1787 by James Maddison. The Constitution guards against tyranny by having federalism, separation of powers, checks and balances and big states vs small states.

Both of the constitution are similar by getting the job done. They both mention a leader and had laws to be followed. Have different levels of the leaders They both have to deal with members and ways to make everything equal. Both tried to keep peace between all the members.

The simple difference between the Articles of Confederation and US Constitution is that the articles were not strong enough to hold our young nation together. The articles operated the US as separate states. Under the articles, it was very difficult to pass laws since the requirement of 9 out of the 13 states ' approval was needed for ratification. The Articles created a loose confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government, leaving most of the power with the state governments. The need for a stronger Federal government soon became apparent and eventually led to the Constitutional Convention in 1787. This quote, stated by William Henry Seward, displays the strength and stability that the Constitution had over the nation, and the liberty and justice it supplied for all of its citizens. Although the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation have similarities, they have many differences, which proved that the Articles of Confederation were a weaker document in comparison. It can be said that the Articles were the “rough draft” to the final living document, which significantly influenced and “ruled” our government, as it still does today.
