Friar Lawrence is accustomed to having Romeo constantly pining for Rosaline and facing despair because of his love for her. Yet, after just one night he forgets all about Rosaline and wishes to marry Juliet; Friar Lawrence’s skepticism is well placed, as Romeo’s impulsive actions betrays his recklessness. After Romeo marries Juliet and consummates their marriage, Tybalt confronts Romeo and slays his best friend Mercutio. Romeo, consumed with revenge, kills Tybalt; only after killing Tybalt does he exclaim to himself, “O, I am Fortune’s fool” (3.1.142). As the result of rash murder, Romeo finds himself in mortal danger because of the Prince’s warning that if Romeo spilt blood, then his life would be the price. He does not take into consideration the consequences of fighting and killing Tybalt before acts; this leads to his banishment from Verona and in turn separation from his love, Juliet. Romeo’s rash actions, that could have easily been avoided, eventually lead him into both difficult and disastrous situations.
Mercutio is there instead and Tybalt and him get into an argument and begin to sword fight. Romeo then tries to separate the two, but gets in the way and Tybalt kills Mercutio. After Mercutio is killed, Romeo immediately goes after Tybalt even though minutes ago, he was telling Tybalt, that he loves him more than he knows. (3.1.59). Romeo acts without thinking and kills Tybalt, which results in numerous outcomes that lead to his death. After the prince learns what happened to Tybalt he states, “ And for that offense, immediately we do exile him hence.” (3.1.184-185). For slaying Tybalt, Romeo gets exiled and has to leave, making his relationship with Juliet harder to keep than it was before and causing himself and Juliet agony. It causes Juliet to become depressed, making her father believe that only marriage will make her happy again. When Romeo is crying on the ground after he finds out he is exiled, Friar states to him, “ Wilt thou slay thyself? And slay thy lady that in thy life lives.” (3.3.116-117). The Friar is saying to Romeo that if he kills himself, Juliet will kill herself too, which later they prove to be true. If Romeo had not killed Tybalt, then he would have been closer to Juliet and would not have been so gloomy. Juliet and he could have had a secret relationship until they were ready to tell their families that they loved each other. Slaying Tybalt causes their marriage to become more of a
In Romeo and Juliet, Romeo attempts to protect his right to a good name, and in the process deprives himself of other freedoms. Act three opens in the town square with an argument between Tybalt and Romeo. Tybalt is attempting to fight Romeo because Romeo went to the Capulet’s ball and fell in love with Juliet. Romeo begins to enter a physical altercation in order to defend his good name, during which he slays Tybalt. The Prince arrives at the commotion and upon seeing Tybalt murdered, he banishes Romeo from Verona and warns, “Let Romeo hence in haste, else when he is found, that hour is his last (3.1.196).” Romeo believes that he has the right to be respected for his actions, and Tybalt is depriving him of his right; by fighting to preserve this right, Romeo sets himself up for the death penalty. Instead however, the Prince exiles him from Verona, “Let Romeo hence in haste,” with the condition that if he does not leave, “that hour is his last,” and he will be executed. Friar Lawrence hides the distressed Romeo and begins to deliver the news of
According to the text, Tybalt went to fight Romeo but Romeo didn’t want to. Instead his friend Mercutio steps in for Romeo. Romeo tries to break up the fight, but Tybalt ends up killing Mercutio and Romeo gets mad with it. So Romeo goes out to find Tybalt and kills him, but for that he is banished from the city. Juliet decides to go with him without anyone else know. So she takes a drug that friar Laurence gave her to fake her death. Romeo finds out that she is dead and goes to see her dead body. Romeo goes into the tomb and kills himself next to her. When she wakes up, she sees Romeos dead body and decides to kill herself. As you can see Tybalt is to be blamed for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because for Tybalt starting a fight it banished Romeo which lead to the deaths of Romeo and
According to the play (178-179) , “The prince banishes Romeo from Verona”. Tybalt’s death drove the tragic plot even further. In Juliet’s case, it forces her to reconsider her love for Romeo, but she forgave him.
In the last paragraph we saw that Romeo killed Tybalt. He killed Tybalt as a result of him not telling the truth. He was banished for killing Tybalt. This means that not telling the truth caused Romeo to be banished. When Romeo was banished Juliet would not stop crying over his banishment. Her parents thought that she was crying over the death of Tybalt. Her father tried to cheer her up by setting up a marriage with Paris, that resulted in a big fight between her and her parents. Then she went to the friar for a sleeping potion to fake her death. This is where things start to take a turn for the
In Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, two people named Romeo and Juliet meet each other at a costume party and fall in love with each other. They get separated from each other during the time they are married. Them being separated causes a lot of difficult situations between them, and eventually in the end, lead to their death. Because Tybalt, Juliet’s cousin, had a negative feeling about Romeo and made Romeo and Juliet separate from each other by acting impulsively in front of Romeo, it is shown that Tybalt is most likely to be blamed for Romeo and Juliet’s death, which suggests that being hateful can lead to bad things.
Shakespeare was characterized by the fact that he does not give the spectators and readers and gives a clear result, but leaves it up to the individual to make his or her own opinion about the particular issue. The characters appearing in the plays are very diverse. Their diversity gives Shakespeare's stories thrill and ambiguity. I was also intrigued by this ambiguity of Shakespeare’s works and I wanted to express my own opinion about this matter.
Romeo is fully aware of the princes decree that any bloodshed between the two families will not result in warnings, but will result in death. Romeo completely ignores the princes order however, proceeds to kill Tybalt. If he had not killed Tybalt he would have never been banished and they could have lived a happy life. However one could say that because Tybalt killed Romeo's best friend Mercutio in a duel, that Romeo was obligated to defend his friends honor. Although that is true, Romeo still did not consider the consequences that would befall in his relationship with Juliet as a result of killing Tybalt. One last and the most important example of their impetuousness is the final scene. Romeo fearing that they will never be together again and takes the poison killing himself seconds before Juliet wakes up. Juliet thinking only of her lost husband, kills herself before she considers fleeing with the priest, and falling in love with another man. If Romeo had only waited, instead of being hasty, Juliet would have awaken in time to Stop Romeo from killing himself. Juliet could have led a promising life had she not kill
Tybalt causes Romeo to be in exile and Juliet’s parents foolishly believe she weeps for the death of Tybalt and get her married to Paris at once. This is one of the misunderstandings in the play to far because this pushes Romeo and Juliet to risk their lives, with poison, for
The Romeo and Juliet (1968) movie had some differences with the original play, although I did enjoy watching it. Watching the film also made me understand some parts of the play a little bit better. A detail that stood out to me the most, however, was how ridiculous the servant’s livery looked like. It almost appeared to resemble a jester’s clothes. I also like how the film took out some parts of the play they deemed unnecessary, but some parts of the play that were added were confusing.
To begin, Tybalt was mad that Romeo and Mercutio took advantage of the Capulets illiterate servant to sneak into the party. Tybalt was so upset, that when he next saw the two in the streets of Verona he challenged Romeo to a duel. Romeo did not want to fight, so that left Mercutio to fight against Tybalt. “Come sir your passado.” Mercutio says this to Tybalt when he is ready to fight. This duel leads to the death of Mercutio. After the Duel between Mercutio and Tybalt, Romeo faced banishment for the death of Tybalt. Romeo killed Tybalt because he had killed Mercutio and Romeo was so mad he wanted to fight. Because of the “murder” much of the Capulets family disliked Romeo, they though since he killed Tybalt, he should be killed for killing. Many other people though Romeo did the right thing and followed the law stating that if somebody were to kill another, they should face death too. Due to the prince not knowing what to do, he chose banishment for Romeo, which meant Romeo and Juliet had to separate, face banishment and or, death together. Romeo's love shows how he is willing to go to drastic measures to kill and put his marriage at jeopardy. Overall, Romeo shows faithfulness and love to his friends by
After this happened, Romeo went after Tybalt out of both anger and his love for Mercutio and killed him. When the prince found out that Romeo had killed Tybalt he exiled him from Verona. This exile had a huge emotional impact on both Romeo and Juliet. It made them very sad because they were so in love that they thought they could not live without each other, they were miserable and they didn't know what to do. It was like everything and everyone was trying to keep them apart, "Although not meant to be together, they may still truly love each other"
Both versions directed by Baz Luhrmann and Franco Zeffirelli, of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet have similarities and differences. In Zeffirelli’s version the montagues and capulets were easy to tell apart by the color of their cloths and hats. In Luhrmann version you can also tell the montagues and capulets apart, but not by the color of their cloths but by the color of their cars. Both versions are also similar because they have the same family feud that has been going on for several of years. To conclude, Zeffirelli and Luhrmann are similar in many in many ways.
The rebellious subject that he first introduces in the play. He does not punish Tybalt and Benvolio right away. He gives them one more chance, allowing their hatred to each other intensifies which boosts Tybalt confidence in challenging and even threatening to kill Romeo because of his pursuit with Juliet later on. As for the death of Tybalt and Mercutio, he does not execute Romeo as well. Instead he banishes him as if death of the two characters is not persuasive enough to let him make a more determinative judgement. What if he executes Romeo, will the family feud ends earlier? Will Juliet be willing to be with Paris when there is no choice left? There are too many possibilities. It suggests how the death of the two main characters be prevented if the Prince makes a more fatal decision on the
