Imperialism is the action of a country taking over another country. There are various reasons as to why nations seek to imperialize other countries. This action is done due to economic, exploratory, ethnocentric, political and religious reasons (Potter lecture). Most nations seek to grow their own nation in power, while others seek to help others grow. Imperialism first started in 1870, when Europe wanted to take over most of Africa. Imperialism is sometimes justified because sometimes other nations can help the more needy nations, but other times it is just complete chaos.

The World Wars were in some ways similar but also, different. The World Wars had similarities in the way the wars were caused, how the wars ended, in regards to who lost, and propaganda. The casualties, the cost, and the military tactics however, were some of their differences.

I believe that World War II was a continuation of World War I because of some not resolved issues. Hitler violated the Treaty of Versailles by expanding the military and invading Poland. One of the events that led to the beginning of World War 1 was: Militarism, Alliances, Imperialism, and Nationalism; which stands for MAIN. Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia but they then joined up with Russia. After, Germany declared war on Russia which caused the war to expand. World War I ended in 1918 when Germany surrendered. It also had a great impact on European countries after it ended.

Imperialism is when a country of rich power overtakes a debilitated government. In the late 1800’s through the early 1900’s. Imperialism started towards the end of the Industrial Revolution because of the lack of natural materials and resources in their own territory. During the period of imperialism, many European countries created vast empires from overthrowing governments in Africa and the Middle East. France, Great Britain, Germany, Spain, Italy, and Portugal were the main countries involved in overtaking territory. An effect from the age of Imperialism was the affection of World War I. Soon Imperialism was so out of control that the countries were going to war over who they were going to overthrow. Imperialism can be described as the idea of dominating another nation and exerting your control over them. Most of the African and East Asian countries were conquered by the European empires. In 1917, Germany called “England, the bloodsucker of the world” in (Doc F). This shows how imperial countries think of each other and the tension there is between them.
