The path to destruction isn’t an instant path; it’s usually based on several things such as choices, relationships and even fate. In regard to relationships, the person can be at odds with one individual, groups or societies. Oedipus the king and Antigone both have 2 central characters that happen to be at odds with societies but for different reasons. I will analyze why Oedipus and Creon were at odds with their societies, how the conflict affected them and others and whether they received just punishment. Oedipus was a cursed man from the start and although he tried to change his fate he ran right into it. When Oedipus found out that the former king’s killers were never found he wanted to solve the mystery right away. This already put him at odds with the society because they didn’t try as hard or move as swiftly to figure out who the murderers of Laius was because, “the riddling Sphinx induced us to neglect mysterious crimes and rather seek solution of troubles at our own feet” (Sophocles, …show more content…

Then Oedipus developed strife with his brother-in-law and friend, Creon, because of the accusation that he was plotting to impeach him. Creon responded to his accusations by showing him that it wouldn’t be in his best interest if he stole the throne from Oedipus.
