Teen rebellion is contrasted to “Romeo and Juliet”, and through centuries of movies, books, songs, and along with poems because people relate to going against rules at some point in their life to do something they said they were not supposed (Shakespeare). Teen rebellion makes songs, poetry, books, and movies more desirable by giving it a more unique, and interesting look at different point of views which some to most people could relate to in some way. Most movies, and songs can give some representation of teenage rebellion, and therefore it could be rebelling against the rules, against one’s parents, or even the law. For example, in the movie “The Outsiders” the main characters Ponyboy and Johnny, who are Greasers, get into a brawl with the Social member resulting in a death which causes a series of events leading to a rebellious plan to leave town and go on the run from the law which will show the consequences of one’s actions (Coppola). Another example of teenage rebellion is in the movie “Clueless” where Cher, …show more content…
Cher, who is the school most richest, and popular girl, and she is as well as the school matchmaker getting anyone with someone, but she herself cannot. In the movie “Clueless” many representations of teenage rebellion are made known when Cher’s dad tells her that she cannot take the car, but she ignores him and takes it anyways (Heckerling). Another example is when she could not go to a party because she was failing her classes, but she again ignores her dad, and sneaks out and takes the car to the party making it known that whatever he says will not stop her, and she will do just the opposite of what he says (Heckerling). The movie showed that a teenager in the 90’s rebelled against the rules just as a teenager from the middle ages would, and it showed that no matter what century teenage rebellion is common
Teen Rebellion is a common theme throughout movies, literature, and song lyrics. Teen rebellion is a normal action through teen years. Teen rebellion is caused by wanting to prove a point and a craving for freedom. During teenage years you always want prove a point weather to an authority figure or even to yourself. Also teens are growing into adults and tend to grave freedom. In Shakespeare's “Romeo and Juliet” both Romeo and Juliet rebel against their families. The two families of Romeo and Juliet are the most bitter enemies and only care for murdering the other family. Romeo of the Montagues and Juliet of the Capulets are now falling in love with each other but know that the war being families will be a complication to their love. Romeo
Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet has been modified numerous times and has been a source of inspiration for many playwrights and directors. Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann are examples of directors that use Shakespeare’s legendary tragedy as a basis for their films.
There are many similarities and differences between the sixties version of Romeo and Juliet and the modern version of Romeo and Juliet. It is very easy to spot these differences considering the time period each movie was set in. There are some things in the play that totally got cut from both movies. There are also some things that they added to the movies that weren’t in the play. Let us get on to the similarities and differences.
It has not been too long ago that I still remember my adolescent years. I always remember the unintelligent things I did that I wish could change, but this Psychology class made me realize that all adolescents go through the same things I experienced. Adolescents are known to try to find their identity, go through peer pressure, make mistakes, and try new things. The move I picked that closely represented what adolescents go through was “Mean Girls”. Some of the scenes in the movie seem a little exaggerated, but it has happened in certain high schools even though I had not experienced it personally.
‘Clink’,’Clink’ It sounds like swords,It’s a duel let’s go and check it out.Oh no! It is the Capulets and Montagues again. We must get Prince Escalus. This is a play and movie about two lovers. The male is Romeo he is 16 years old.The female is Juliet she is only 13 but she turned 14.Their feud between their families ended their lives so Romeo and Juliet cannot be together.I’m comparing and contrasting the movie and play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The topics that I chose to compare and contrast was the setting, character, and the plot.
Of all the treasures in the world, true love is of the most valued. They say that when you are truly in love, the universe around you simply stops, and no one else matters except you and your love. Love has the mesmerizing beauty of a stunning red rose, but it also has spiteful thorns surrounding it. But between friends and family, love can quickly go from black and white to shades of grey and can become fatal and suspenseful.
Teens are rebellious troublemakers. It’s just something that’s in their blood. Each one shows it in a different way. There are many movies that show teens coming of age and going through this phase. “Rebel Without A Cause”,“American Graffiti”, “Breaking Away”, and “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” all show how teens are growing up.
Romeo and Juliet is a timeless story about two ill-fated lovers. Originally written by, Shakespeare, this story has been adapted by different directors who all commonly try to add their own unique twist to it. Two of the most prevalent adaptations of Romeo and Juliet have been done by Franco Zeffirelli and Baz Luhrmann, who have taken this love story to the big screen. Franco Zeffirelli’s movie, which was produced in 1968, is extremely authentic and stays true to Shakespeare's vision, whereas, Baz Luhrmann’s version produced in 1996, is contemporary and appeals more to younger audiences. There are various differences and a couple of similarities between Zeffirelli’s and Luhrmann’s movie versions such as the costumes, their interpretations of
The time period of the play and the time period of the movie are very different. In the movie, the prologue was on a T.V. screen and it was not in the play. Also in the movie, they used cars instead of horses to get around. In the movie, Romeo and his friends always smoked and would take drugs and they did not do that in the play. In the play, the different families owned castles and in the movie they own different businesses and buildings. They also had guns instead of swords in the movie. Also in the movie, they dressed more modern than they would have in the play.
In Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 version of Romeo and Juliet, is a traditional adaptation of Shakespeare’s original Romeo and Juliet, with some variations. Baz Luhrmann directed the 1996 version, also known as the MTV Romeo † Juliet. This version is very modernized, but keeps the language intact with few changes.
In the essay, “High School Confidential: Notes on Teen Movies,” David Denby argues that teen movies reflect each other and lack originality. To prove his argument, Denby illustrates the majority of teen movie’s typical characters and events such as the antagonists that are the popular rich girl with long blonde hair, a dense quarterback, the geeky protagonist who is usually an outsider with family and/or friends struggles, and the importance of prom night. His purpose is to expose teen movies for having a pattern of cliches and in order to convey his this, Denby addresses the stereotypes and lack of creativity. Denby addresses teenagers and others who had similar experiences in their high school career and appeals to them by using a casual,

Have you ever done something that you knew was wrong? If so, it was probably just before or during high school as an adolescent, when many kids start to rebel against their parents. I guess you could say what I did was rebellious. On that beautiful, June day, I learned that if you try something different, like I did with my friend, Addison, it doesn’t change who you are, it’s just a way of learning more about yourself.
The scene that was most different between the play and the movie of Romeo and Juliet was how the two crossed lovers first met each other. In the play Romeo and the Montague boys find out about the Capulet party through a poor peasant who could not read the invitations. While in the movie the Capulet party is announced through a newscast over T.V. I think the director changed this so the invite can go more along with the time period of the movie. This could change how the viewers see it by making the invite less secret. Over a newscast anyone who was paying attention to the T.V. could of heard the invite. Another main difference in this scene would be Romeo and Juliet first seeing each other in the bathroom across a fish tank rather than across the ballroom in the play. This could take away from the romantic side of the two first seeing each other. In the play it seems Romeo and Juliet have more privacy when they first speak to each other. In the movie the two are getting on and off an elevator just not to be seen. This could add more suspense to the scene and make the viewers see the movie from a lofty viewpoint.
Teen Rebellion is something we have all heard of because it is what teens are known for. Movies, books, plays, and songs have been used these generalizations to appeal to its younger watchers. Movies often show this by having teens fight against the adults also known as the higher power for what they think is right. Romeo and Juliet went behind their parents backs as a result of believing that their love was the right thing and they were willing to fight for it to the death. The parents are the higher power trying to set them up with other people.
