The Declaration of Independence was written for King George III and the world to state the wrongdoings of the British government to the thirteen colonies. The Declaration of Independence is an important part of American history because it contains the goals of the colonies, the complaints against the King, and the arguments the colonists use to support wanting Independence from Britain. While, the Declaration of the Rights of Man was written for the majority population of France, the Third Estate, who were facing oppression from the absolute tyrant Louis XIV and the other two estates for years. The cruel treatment they faced inspired the National Assembly to form after the Third Estate separated from the Estates General. The National Assembly composed the Declaration of the Rights of Man to explain the natural rights of citizens given to them by birth and how those rights cannot or should not be ignored by the government under any justification. Being born in the United States automatically grants you certain rights, such as freedom of speech, religion, and press, unlike being born in another country. Many presidents and people fought to have these basic rights granted to us. One may question why it is important to have freedom of speech and religion, well here is why.

“Life, Liberty, & Pursuit of happiness,” is one of the most important parts of the declaration. That means that citizens have the right to all those things. It is a natural right. The words of the Declaration of Independence mean the right freedom, justice, equality, security, protection, and fair government. I think the two most important words are Rights and equality.

The lower class of France eventually gathered and declared themselves the National Assembly, who was the true government body in France because they were they majority. The National Assembly gathered and write the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen which outlined the basic rights that Man is entitled to and provided a fair way for France to be ruled. The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen stated, “civil distinction, therefore, can be funded only on public unity” (National Assembly). This passage states that the government can only rule by the way that the governed depicts and suggests that the laws enacted by the king or the National Assembly should be made in the best interest of the country, and not specifically for an individual person. By reading the Encyclopedie and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and the Citizen, one can understand that there were many problems concerning people during that time, such as the creation of a just government as well as the responsibility of a father. Firstly, the author in the Encyclopedie put forth his belief of a just government, in which the rights of the people would be preserved. In other words, this could also show the people’s fear at the time of a creation of a tyranny or a government which was regulated for the benefit of those who governed only. These principles influenced the lower class who had been treated unfairly and outvoted by the two upper classes regardless of their abundant population.
