The Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen is a declaration of the inalienable rights of all men. It was written by the French National Assembly which was made up of the third estate or commoners. The document was written in France on August 26, 1789. The year of 1789 is known as being the year the French Revolution began. This declaration was written by the third estate in response to the other two estates, the Clergy and Nobles, not ruling in the interest of all citizens of France. More specifically, the third estate was fed up with not having any real power or influence in the government despite representing the majority of French citizens. All three of the estates held a single vote so the clergy and nobles could just work together
