Not all of characteristics are found in each and every piece of modern literature. Of Mice and Men is a modernist piece that follows a story about that follows two protagonists by the name of Lennie and George. George and Lennie worked together and are a family. The idea that everything is going to be okay as long as you work the land or work hard does not apply in this scenario.The protagonists would have been able to work hard and have economic success or stability. The text states,“I got you! You can’t keep a job and you lose ever’ job I get. Jus’ keep shovin’ all over the country all the time...You do bad things and I got to get you out.”(Steinbeck 11) and these ruins their chances of being able to achieve their dream. Lennie is also unable to tell what is a the appropriate thing to do during any situation. As a result, Lennie and George are unable to settle peacefully.
