Contamination Of Water Chapter 4

Decent Essays

Chapter 4:

Water is an important resource for people and there its use is limited. Most of it is contaminated and there is an increasing amount of contamination in it. So many chemicals have mixed that scientist can't even determine what chemicals are in the water. Many of these chemicals come from seeped chemicals used on farmlands while others are purposely applied to the water to destroy unwanted organisms. Some parts of the water are so contaminated that it cannot be treated by purifying plants.

The threat to groundwater is the most dangerous. Adding pesticide in one area can result in adding pesticides everywhere. All the water in earth was once groundwater. That means that the pollution of groundwater is pollution of the earth. For example, a manufacturing plant in Colorado contaminated a farming district, which killed the plants and animals.

Chemicals released into the environment can become into something more dangerous by combining with other chemicals, which is also …show more content…

Without it, we wouldn't have plants and then we would die. The soil is created from many different life forms, including the interaction of living things and non-living things. The most important organisms of the soil are the smallest. It goes into the ranking of highest to lowest in the following: Bacteria, fungi, and algae. They all produce decay. There’s one kind of bacteria that is nitrogen fixing which helps the plant survive. Other organisms are mites and insects which break down things on the forest floor into the soil. Larger animals aerate the soil by traveling through the soil, which improves its drainage. Worms are one of these important organisms, which also rotates the soil from top to bottom and bottom to top. The addition of chemicals into the system creates soil that is not as habitable. For example, there is an herbicide 2,4-D which interrupts nitrification which makes it impossible for plants to grow
