When I was eight years of age, I started to realize that there was an entire word outside of the town, state, and country that I lived in. I became concerned about the lives of others, even those that I didn’t know personally. I often thought “There are people in other countries that don’t even have enough water to live, and I am living an amazing life here in America”. Not only was I concerned for those people, but I took action to help them. It was then that I started a fundraiser to raise money for people that can’t afford the basic necessities to live in third world countries. To this day, I have been saving every penny I could afford to make sure other people can live a better life. I believe that young people today should be concerned
Throughout history, less fortunate people around the world have been ignored. Only a few have stood up and have devoted their own time in order to help these people through strong faith. It’s time to take initiative, make a change in the world, and do more for others than we do for ourselves.
It all started in 2016. It was a summer day in June at a camp called Youth America. That Summer day started terribly. It was a burning day at Youth America and an exhausting day as well. We had to set a slide up on a grass hill, this slide used mattresses, a pool cover and pool floats, plus soap and water. We had to carry these items for a while. We walked carrying these items to where the coaches were going to set this up. The coaches and the volunteers put this slide together on the grass hill. They used this ramp from the storage room. They poured a lot of soap on it, then the water from the hose. After building this slide, if we wanted to, you had to go to your cabin and get your bathing suit on. I did not want to do it so I just watched
Donald Trump America’s president elect has done and said several controversial statements throughout the duration of the presidential race. Some of the issues or topics that were controversial was immigration, feminism, and employment. Donald Trump believes that immigrants should not be allowed to be apart of the country he has said unbelievably disgusting things about Mexicans. One of the controversial things he said pertaining to Mexicans was they are dangerous criminals and drug dealers that is basically up to no good and they are coming here to “steal our jobs” he also discussed building a wall to block out the immigrants specifically the Mexicans. If America is the land of the free everyone should have equal opportunity to make a living even if they are coming from a different country. In this country
I'm coming from a background where living with financial problems is just another thing, but while living in Mexico I rarely saw anyone living on the streets or giving up. I always saw people constantly working on the fields, cleaning houses, selling candy at a stop light, doing everything they could to bring food to their families. My background doesn't only consist of every day endeavor, but it consists of people who are willing to help those who aren't able to help themselves. I saw people who didn't have much for themselves, helping and supporting those who didn't have anything at all. When I was eight years old I saw kids my age starving, without lights in their homes, without toys to play with or even shoes to wear. This is when the eager to help those in need began. I didn't understand why, but I just wanted to give them all my toys, clothes, and shoes. After giving them some of the things I owned, and making a fundraiser to buy food for them, something in me was still telling me I could do more. Coming from this created the characteristics that I now possess. The determination that these people had to work
People who think the world is perfect and life great, think about the people who do not have anything whatsoever. In several countries today, many families are dying because of poverty. In Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt, Frank and his family severely suffered in Ireland because of how poor and unprivileged they were. A group of people today do not understand or care about how many people who die because they have nothing. Their house may be flooded or they may not even have a house at all. Only one grain of rice or a cup of water will satisfy them. In several places people should help countries such as people like Frank McCourt who many have poverty and decide to fight the issue that is haunting us today.
After I was done reading “Why Are Your Clothes So Cheap?” I started feeling bad for the people who make our nice clothes. This made me want to go help them out, but at the same time not. The kids that work at the factories have to drop out just so they have money to support their families. If I had to do that I would not be happy, because of what I want to be when I grow up. But when I found out that there are people studying the factories it made me feel better, because people are actually caring for the people who work long hours with low pay. It inspired me to step up and help the people in those factories that work with horrible conditions. Help the have better safety hazards and make sure they work for a good pay.
One of my goals is to go back to my home country and help out those who need of help because I feel like my country is not in the right place where it need to be. Watching the video give me some great ideas that I could use to help my country be in a better place. For example I want to have my own business in Africa that could help people to pay for their children to go to school and have food on the table. The mean thing that I learned from this video is that make sure you are helping people in the right way, don’t just help because you want to make a good name for yourself help because you love what you doing for the communities. Another idea I got from the video is that I want to build school for the poor because the part of Africa that I am from it hard for kids to go to school because their family don’t have the money to pay for it. So my goal is for me to build a school in Africa that could allow kids to go for free without thinking about paying for
The dilemma that second generation i.e., Gogol, Sonia and Moshami faced is more psychological rather than physical because, they were born and brought up in America they did not face any cultural or social dilemma. They had known only one culture i.e., American culture and they accepted it and celebrated it fully.
Nevertheless, all we need is special assistance from the unexpected. A woman named Maggie Doyne does exactly this service to children and women from Nepal and was honored through CNN when she was titled the 2015 CNN Hero. This news article website I found on CNN was published on the 13th of January, 2016. The article explained how Maggie dove into her babysitting money she had saved over the years and traveled to Nepal with a vision of betterment for these families. She invested her savings into the building of schools for the kids, a women’s center for the moms, and a children's home. In this story it came to my attention that there is so much on our God given plan that we do not know about. We must not lose faith or hope in our God because when we least expect it we will be helped in ways and through people we have never anticipated. And that is the meaning of life, for it to be a mystery as Jesus and God is to
From a general standpoint, no one can cast doubt on the fact that participating in activities is of paramount importance for young people since it helps them to become prepared for their future roles in the society. With this in mind, it is not far-fetched to notice that like all prominent issues, some of its facets are subject to discussion and contention. For example, how many activities are better for teenagers to focus on has been a subject of controversy. One popular opinion in this regard is that taking part in various activities is more important for young generations rather than concentrating on one particular task. I personally concur with it. In what follows, the rationale behind this will be elaborated by focusing on two axiomatic
I think one reason that the author chose to write this particular book was to bring light to the terrible atrocities that were committed during the 1980s in the country of Guatemala. I feel that he felt that he had to show the world what it taken place in the small South American country the size of Tennessee, to inform the world of this terrible time in history. I think he also wrote it to show that teens in America really take their freedom and the opportunities they have for granted. In the mindset of most American youth we believe that anyone can grow up to be a millionaire, or we can all go to college and make something of our lives. Whereas in Guatemala young people such as Gabriella who are both poor and indigenous did not have an opportunity
I learned that not all people can afford to buy new stuff for their newborn babies. Many families in our community are struggling to make ends meet. There is a big difference between those who have more than they need and those that don’t. I hope that by giving a baby hat, that a family can buy something else they will need for the baby like diapers. This project address those needs because it gives that family something they might need but can not afford. Other work to address this need is happening at Goodwill and the Clothes Bank. They also help people that don't have a lot of money get the clothes they need. I can apply this learning in my life by making baby hats and donating the clothes I don't wear, need, or don't fit to Goodwill or The Clothes Bank. I learned more about the Clothes Bank and how they help people in need from my aunt Nancy. I could also help address this need by asking my parents or peers if they would want to help make baby hats or ask if we could go to the Clothes Bank and see what we could do to help. I could tell them that many people can't afford their own clothes and that we need to give back because we have so much more than the people in need. I will make more baby hats this summer and I would like to tell my family and friends more about it the need for clothes in our community. This activity was a lot of fun but it also helped me learn about the people who can not
Witnessing experiences my family and friends had to undergo, I have been raised with the idea of trying to live by “justice.” Because of that, I have thrown myself into advocacy work. For example, I am the Chairman of Mayor Youth City Council where I can voice and act on some of my concerns for our city of Memphis. Since last year, I have also had the chance to work internationally. For example, I got to partner with Sister Fa [she is a famous Senegalese celebrity and activist] and work with the Senegalese government on how to stop Female Genital Mutilation while still respecting the culture. I even was lucky enough to be able to open my own nonprofit Tomorrow’s Promises Inc., where I try to implement projects on the local and international level. I traveled to India [by myself] to try to resolve a situation where I had raised money by knocking door to door to try to get some toilets put in for women [previous notions had not allowed women to get an toilets so they went to the fields]. Because of my age and other reasons, the villagehead had taken the money, but did not follow through. When I went there to at least get the money back, I ended up staying with the people a little bit and began to meet the schools around. With no electricity, they needed some way to educate the kids, so I aided in building libraries for the students. Then, I
Since a young age, I have felt an innate sense of duty to humanity. That was back when helping my classmate up when they had fallen down and scraped their knee on the playground or when sharing my lunch with another kid gave me that “feel good” tingling in my stomach. Now that I am all grown up, that “feel good” tingling can still come from those other points I mentioned. But ordinarily, they stem from the time I assisted a teenager with intellectual disabilities in obtaining employment or all the times I aided in helping needy families receive the relief they desperately need to pay their cooling and heating costs. Although the instances have changed, the feeling remains the same. In this statement, I will demonstrate as to why I wish to continue
From a very early age I knew that I wanted to do something with my life to make other people 's lives better. My mom likes to remind me of the time when I was a small child in Washington, DC.Even with all of the awe and sights to see in DC, she said that I could only focus on all of the homeless people. Seeing a homeless person was new to me, let alone seeing hundreds, but my mom likes to remind me about how I wanted to “make lasagna and feed all of them”.
