I know what they say, ‘you never really miss someone until they're gone.’ Until now I never truly understood this expression. I had always known my cousin was adventurous, in fact, I thought of her as an older version of me. However, I never thought she’d be on the other side of the world. Nevertheless, that is another story for a different time. Today was the day I’d get to see her again, the day we’d get to catch up, the day where it would be just like old times. I’d only have one day until she goes off into the world again. I’d have to make the most out of this one day.
“Wait up!¨ I hollered at Kayla as she slid her paddle board into the water. I sprinted down the steep hill toward the lake. Kayla paused and smiled as I lugged my paddle board out of the shed. Then, I slid my board into the water and wrapped the velcro strap around my ankle. “This is hard to find your balance on,” I commented as my body and the board shook while I was attempting to find my balance. Then, my sister Caitlyn sat in front of me, her light brown hair pulled back into a ponytail; her green eyes focused on the island ahead.
As I stroked the water with my paddle I noticed Kayla’s pale skin already turning red from the sun beating down on us.
“Kayla, are you already sun burnt?” I laughed. Her blonde curly hair whipped around as she looked down at her shoulders and said,
“Yes, I saw that coming.”
