Crime scene investigation What is crime scene investigation? Collecting irrefutable evidence and finding the missing pieces that will solved the case in hand or the mystery. The purpose of crime scene investigation is to help establish what happened, and to identify the person who is responsible. This is done by law enforcement. They do this very carefully by documenting the evidence they got at the crime scene and recognizing all relevant physical evidence. It is no exaggeration to say that in the majority of cases, the law enforcement officer who protects and searches a crime scene plays a critical role in determining whether physical evidence will be used in solving or prosecuting violent crimes.
