The North Korea is dramatically different compared to the South Korea. Unlike China, which is rapidly developing its economy and diverging from the self-contained world, until this day North Korea still remains undeveloped. Many of those who are not familiar with the affairs in the South and North Koreas might not understand why both regions, which are so close to one another, differs so much in terms of lifestyle, economic, and social developments. They were unified for centuries under the Joseon Dynasty (1392 - 1910), and share the same language and essential culture. Yet for the last six decades and North and South Korea have been divided along a fortified DMZ(Szczepanski). It has been almost 70 years since both countries lived separates lives. North Korea is like a hermit isolating its self from the rest of the world while south Korea has flourished overtime. South Korea is said to have turned into the Hollywood of the east, “churning out entertainment that is coveted by millions of fans stretching from japan to Indonesia” (Schmitt). There are about 400 independent studios producing content for the entertainment market(Schmitt). As for north Korea there is nothing much to be said. The only thing the people are legally allowed to watch are propaganda made by the government, although outsiders do smuggle thumb drive into the country with movies and tv shows for people to watch, but they have to watch it secretly. If they are caught they will either be executed or locked up and may never be let out. In my opinion I believe that the north Korean regime is afraid that foreign culture will bring doubt to the society therefore leading to the point where the people and questioning the government. Life in north Korea is very much different from the south. In North Korea the government decided where you work at, how you dress, what you wear while in south you see people dressing how they wanted, no one is being arrested for what they dressed like, you decided your own future. For example, I had a friend from Pakistan she told me that when she was re united with her family after a longtime of separation … she took them out to eat and she ordered a salad and told the waitress what she didn’t want on it
North Korea does have many differences and maybe some similarities, but they have it worse than Americans. Even though North Korea has many problems with the government/ rules, the rulers, their lifestyle, and the economy, one day they will hopefully become like the United States, free of the
Cultures around the world are divide by their distinctive characteristic of people, and how people interact within their society. Most cultures are driven by the way their environment has been set for them. Many of cultures have to adapt to the way their environment are due to the conditions that are set for them and the amount of resources that they are provided. The biggest drive for culture are the historical custom. Most countries continue to carry their ancestor custom so that the tradition may stay with them throughout their years, in which making other countries distinctive from one another. One of the particular country that will be discuss in this report is North Korea. In this report, I will be discussing the North Korean culture, with describing their living condition in the country, common issues that they face with on a daily bases, and common threat that they pose on other countries.
The United States has a complex government that builds on democracy whereas North Korea has communism centered on totalitarian rule. Both had their conflicts during the past and still are struggling in the future. Even though their government has two different sides to tell about they too have some similarities. One country having majority rule and the other having "political authority [whom] exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of life" (definition: totalitarianism at dictionary.com). Going through the growth of their economy, the citizens are opening their eyes each and every day to a government that has different branches with their checks and balances, exposure to several political parties, having their civil
They make people believe in things aren’t real just like King Jong Un does to his population. An example in George Orwell book was that 2+2=5, Orwell stated (1949) “Freedom is the freedom to say that two plus two make four. If that is granted, all else follows” (page 81). This shows how much the government controls you and how they can manipulate the way people think. Just like 1984, North Korea makes the citizens believe things are true when they are clearly to anybody else in the world. The government is very careful with what they let in and out of the
The country of North Korea compares rather closely to the world in Ayn Rand’s Anthem. Both nations of people are very closed off from the community and the outside world. The citizens only know about what the government officials want them to know about. In North Korea everyone depends upon and worships their leader, Kim Jong Il, almost as though he is their god. They all only depend on what they classify as “we” and they rely only on that because they do not have access to anyone else or even know what it means to be an individual. In both the book and North Korea, the citizens are locked down and watched with a careful eye. Breaking the rules in Anthem would send you to the Uncharted Forest, which is very similar to what happens to those
North Korea’s government is very similar to Anthem’s form of government. North Korea is a dictatorship, meaning one person has absolute power and controls everything. The people of Korea are under strict rules and if
In North Korea the people can only watch tv or listen to music run by the government. Also if you live in North Korea you cannot freely leave the country. Out of all of the things Kim Jung-Un does to abuse his power this stuck out the most if a person doesn't obey Kim Jung-Un's rules he does what he wishes with them. North Korea currently has 16 operating labor camps and prisoners are put there for something as simple as stealing a kernel of corn. Another thing he does is he will just kill you if he thinks you have committed some kind of crime.
North Korea is ruled by a leader named Kim Jong II. North Korea is like an isolated country that are being brained wash by their one leader Kim Jong II. People are taken and are taught in a young age on who to rule and who are the bad people and have hate towards the US. North Korea has false fantasy about the US making

This is stemmed from the animosity their leader holds for the United States. In turn making hatred a part of their culture enforcing it in elementary school. In North Korea they do not have social class due to the fact they state their society has done away with them. The people of North Korea are broken basically into two groups in, which determines your status in North Korea. Depending on your family history you fall under revolutionary or un-revolutionary origins; this means that the more your family helped in developing the country the higher status you will have in the country. The majority of the people in North Korea were not veterans, or do not have an extensive history. They do not have any kind of social reinforcement from their ancestry to have a real future. There is no family that is not more famed than Kim Il Sung’s family. If you are a relative of the Sung’s
North Korea beings a country engulfed by hunger and poverty can not risk showing their citizens the lifestyles of flourishing countries. This alone can start a subvert of the government, as to why they will not permit it to happen. They make it seems like certain pleasures do not exist. In a way it makes it seem like they are stronger than their adversaries. Luxuries in the country are everyday things to people in more progressed countries like the United States. The citizens do not know of this through media control thus thinking they are living a great life and better than average living standard. Despite this not all are contained and many escape which signifies the insubordinates shown in 1984 who do everything to turn on their government. Whether it be doing the bare minimum such as eating or loving an object, or running away from the
First of all, there is a big difference in politics between North Korea and The U.S. The U.S has a democratic government which people in the country have equal rights, people are also have the right to vote for their leaders. And there are House of Representatives and the senate to
Understanding how North Korea as a country defines itself in a changing world. Where do they derive their customs and practices, political standings and military power? Define North Korea’s history leading into the modern age and define its culture and characteristics and how they interact with the world today. Understanding a subject as broad as the term culture begins where the culture began with the birth of civilization and the people that influenced it. There are many factors that play a role in the shaping of a nation none so much as turmoil and conflict and the Korean peninsula saw its fair share for the better part of a millennia. A complete statistical breakdown of North Korea shows a struggling nation that strongly depends on
North Korean citizens are the most oppressed people in the world. The people there have no basic radio communications, they are blocked from most internet and television and most foreign journalists are not allowed in the country. The government is also technically not a communist country, it is in fact a
State media sources are tightly controlled so as to prevent the North Korean public from accessing any information that does not come from the country's strict government bureau of information, and this means that many North Koreans are grossly misinformed about the position of North Korea in the world and believe, for example, that their meagre lifestyles are preferable to the terrible conditions in other countries. Visitors to North Korea routinely report tight levels of control, with mobile phones confiscated for the duration of the visit and all movement tracked by an official government-supplied 'tourist guide'.
