It was a dark, rainy night when Michael found his new family. He was walking on the side of the street in torn up clothes, with little belongings. After a couple of minutes’ passes, a white family drove by in a nice car. The mom of the family, Leigh Anne, told her husband to stop the car, and ask if he needed a lift back home. When she asked Michael, this question, he said he had nowhere to go. They decided to help him out, and let him sleep on the couch for the night. Even though they were different race, that didn’t matter to him. IN my opinion, Michael was probably shocked, and somewhat relieved, that someone he didn’t even know, gave him a place to stay dry for the …show more content…

This was Michaels high point of his life, and never wanted to lose it. He was terrified of messing up, and disappointing his family. He cherished every moment he had with them, and gave them love in return. He took care of Leigh’s kids whenever she needed help. Michael was a good older brother, who had a big
The world is far from a uniform system. Each and every individual is placed in a different situation depending on everything from location, race, beliefs, and economic status. Psychology looks at how individuals come out of these specific environments and how they transform into an adult through the trials and tribulations of their growth. In The Blind Side, director John Lee Hancock focuses on an athletically skilled African-American teen, Michael Oher, who is transformed from a homeless orphan from the projects into a highly sought after college football prospect through a positive change in family, school, and supportive surroundings.
Have you ever thought of yourself as fearless, or strong? Well Michael was both he was brave. It is important to know he was brave. Bravery was an very important trait for Michael. He had fought threw thick and thin for everyone that was important him.

Repeatedly running away from the group home after group home, he was placed in after he was taken from him drug addicted mother, he happens to run into the exceedingly accepting family. In the movie, The Blind Side, Michael Oher’s character experiences many changes. Throughout the film, he grows from a shy, uneducated boy into a young man who belongs to a family. The film begins with Oher as a homeless youth struggling to find a place to sleep. It progresses with Oher’s fortunate meeting of the Tuohy family and concludes with Oher’s ultimate transformation from a homeless boy into a successful man.
Everyone was created for a reason. "Don't ever allow yourself to feel trapped by your choices. Take a look at yourself. You are a unique person created for a specific purpose. Your gifts matter. Your story matters. Your dreams matter. You matter." - Real Michael Oher. In the visual text 'The Blind Side' the director John Lee Hancock presented to us, how Michael Oher was a positive influence on Sean Tuohy, the football team/coach and Leigh Anne. To display this to the viewers, Hancock used the film technique of low-key lighting in the scene where Michael was sauntering solo in the crisp, drenched night, long-shot in the scene where Michael was on the field with his football team/coach and dialogue in the scene where Michael graduates to Ole Miss University. Do you believe a young teenage boy can transform someone to become a better person? Well, start believing! Hancock used these film techniques to reinforce the way Michael was a positive influence on Sean Tuohy, the football team/coach and Leigh Anne and made them exceptional people.
On the trip there Leah Anne stopped the car to get a eye-to-eye conversation showing that she takes great care in finding out Michaels past and how she can help him for the better. One night Leah Anne asked a simple question to Michael, if he wanted to stay? Michael responded " I don't like anywhere else" and sure enough she turned the guest room into a comfortable place for Michael with a bed, that he had never had before.
Michael had many people that supported him. Those people include the Tuohy’s, who took in Michael and gave him food, a tutor, a home, and helped guide him in life. “I can’t talk enough about the time and work Miss Sue put into helping me. She is retired now, but she deserves to be in the hall of fame” (Oher 159). Michael also says, “When my name was called on draft day, I couldn’t imagine that life could get any better---especially since I was surrounded
The Blind Side is based on a true story about a homeless boy named Michael Oher (Big Mike) who has been living with different people until the Tuohys take him in. Leigh Anne and Sean Tuohy eventually become his legal guardians and the story is about how his life improves while playing football at Wingate high school in Tennesee. It shows his struggles with grades, and how the family and Michael are affected by the other. Because of his giant size he goes on to get a football scholarship for the University of Mississippi. The story is about his journey.
John Lee Hancock’s “The Blind Side” explores a diverse range of aspects and notions of belonging through the techniques presented in the text. The characterization of the central character Michael Ohers being a big illiterate black African American teenager coming from a broken home and family sets the context for the rest of the film where he is faced with many barriers restricting his comfort and pushing him towards his total disengagement from the “White” Society. After the Touhy’s accept Michael into their home, he begins his long path transitioning from the old “Big Mike” to the new Michael Ohers. The barriers that Michael is faced with include the school he goes to and the environment he is residing in being a new experience to him
As a young child Michael suffered abuse and enforcement to succeed by his father. Michael has said that this has affected his physical development as there had been times when his father would come to see him and he would be sick. This was just from the fear he had of his father hurting him if he did not do well.
This is shown when he starts to accept the help others are offering him. He accepts the Touy’s help by going shopping with Leanne and working with a tutor that they hire for him, he also starts to work with his teacher’s in-between classes in order to improve his grades. He is working hard to rid himself of internal conflict, or in other words he is working hard to achieve inner-harmony. Throughout the film we see that Michael holds the instrumental value of love. We learn that whenever Michael was taken from his mother he would run away to find her. This shows his need to help and protect her, which is Michael’s way of showing love. We see this concept throughout the film, such as when Michael deflects the airbag from hitting S.J, and when Leanne tells Michael to protect the football team as if they were his
While there are so many things I could say about Michael, nothing will ever compare to his compassion and humor. He has said before and will say again, “Society teaches us that having feelings and crying is bad and wrong. Well that’s baloney because grief isn’t wrong. There’s such a thing as good grief. Just ask Charlie
With Michael and his circumstances and the welcoming of him in the family this enhanced his
