Emotions are high right now in the United States. Americans are upset with the National Football League over a very personal issue. Many Americans can relate to this in a personal way because they have family members or loved ones in the military. Kneeling during the National Anthem shows disrespect to our military, our citizens, and our nation.
One reason Americans are distressed is they have family members or loved ones who have died in the wars for our country, and kneeling during the anthem shows disrespect to our soldiers and veterans. The players that are kneeling are showing that they don’t care about the sacrifices our military makes on a daily basis. Furthermore, soldiers risk life and limb every single day to give Americans the freedom we have today. The United States has soldiers all over the world to help protect our freedom. However very few Americans have the bravery to go out and fight for our country and when players don’t even have the respect to stand for our anthem it angers the citizens of America. Another reason kneeling during the anthem is so disrespectful is because the soldiers of our military get paid very little money for the huge sacrifices they make while NFL

Therefore, Americans recount to this in a very personal matter. When the players of the NFL kneel during the anthem, not only do they feel disrespected, but they feel their loved ones that they have lost are being disrespected. With this being such a personal issue for many American citizens, it is a very essential subject to be addressed. Therefore, the NFL should be preventing the players kneeling, and not just encumbrancing it. The NFL is not addressing the issue the way it should be. This has angered the hearts of many Americans back home who watch the disrespect on National
Although NFL athletes are a huge figure in America today, they still choose to disrespect their country by kneeling during the National Anthem. I believe kneeling during the National Anthem is unpatriotic, separate’s teammates and the community, and is also bad publicity. This has caused people to protest the NFL by doing things such as burning their season tickets. Kneeling during the anthem has caused a huge controversial issue that is impacting many. This has not only caught the attention of adults but also children. The NFL is now losing its focus on football and putting more focus on politics.
In 2017 controversy struck when the NFL tried “taking a stance” and protesting the National Anthem. In this protest, many NFL players one by one knelt down while the National Anthem played at their sporting event. The National Anthem is a song for our country and symbol to represent all of the men and women who have fought in our military. This song is not played just for our entertainment, it is to honor the flag and what it stands for. The protesting was started by Colin Kaepernick, last season, when he was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He was the first player to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem, now many other NFL players this season are following in his path and doing the same thing. Many players and viewers claim it is for police brutality and the injustice that is being served, while other viewers see it as entitled millionaires disrespecting the flag and the military. Everyone has different opinions on the issue, but no matter what the country needs to respect one another as humans and be united; the American Flag is a symbol of our freedom and the NFL needs to recognize the National Anthem rather than kneeling and disrespecting what it stands for.
Kneeling during the national anthem is not just wrong it is also disrespectful to the multitudes in our country who have served or or presently serving this great nation-- the United States of America. The national anthem represents many things. One of them is the fortitude of our country’s flag. In the anthem it declares that the United States of America is “the land of the free and the home of the brave.” The flag represents the very core and essence of our nation as the only land on the continent that offers its citizens the freedoms it has at the price paid for ultimately by the brave. It is in no way oppressive nor racist. It is the theme song for every American. The intended audience of this paper is an appeal to all Americans. The quarterback of the 49ers football team, Colin Kaepernick, first began a protest to draw attention to a series of incidents against African Americans by remaining seated during the national anthem, “the Star Spangled Banner.” After the great stir Kaepernick caused in the media during September 2016, Kaepernick switched up his protest by taking a knee as a nod or gesture of showing more respect to current and former military after receiving an in-depth letter from Nate Boyer a former NFL player and US military veteran. Boyer served our country as a Green Beret. Over a decade ago, Boyer witnessed genocide while working in Sudan. He met numerous African men who were smitten with America and longed to have the
This act of kneeling down should be considered as an act of patriotic criticism, rather than a betrayal of the nation. After all, patriotism does not mean that we should love and support everything that the government conducts, but rather we should criticize for the greater good of the government, so that it could improve. Government could only improve, if they can hear the voice from the people. Only after accepting the criticism can one improve. Therefore, the focus of such protest in the NFL should be why they protested, instead of the act of protesting. After all,
“Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave. O'er the land and of the free, and the home of the brave.” These words from our beloved national anthem, are words that this country chooses to live by. Ladies and gentlemen will remove their caps, and then all rise for the playing of the Star Spangled Banner. Most Americans have become comfortable about this right and pleasure that we have. To be able to show respect for the ones who aren’t here, and can’t even stand to do so. One professional American football player had another agenda for this time. He decided to kneel instead of stand like we have all become accustomed to. In my generation, we take our freedom and rights for granted. We do this, because we never had
Countless people worldwide have different opinions on the National Anthem protest in the NFL. Some people think it’s a good idea of protest and agree with what those players are protesting for, some people are just hard headed and don’t want to look at the bigger picture and just call it outright disrespectful to the flag and the military. A large number of people find it appropriate and support what those players are fighting for because they are exercising their first amendment right, and that shows how educated someone is. People also support this protest because it is very peaceful and is not resulting in a harmful way that endangers people. The National Anthem protest is an extremely appropriate form of protest, because it gives athletes the chance to perform an act that can have them killed or punished extremely in other countries.
Situations such as the Michael Brown one, Freddie gray one and Tamir rice are all reasons NFL players such as Colin Kaepernick have been kneeling. The Alton Sterling incident is on camera which is heartbreaking to even think about. Police kill black African-Americans and then try to stand behind self-defense and the law. That isn`t right that families especially moms have to bury their son and live with not never ever seeing their son again. A lot of people say it`s disrespecting the flag which is wrong. African- Americans go through things other races could never. I am in pro of players kneeling because of the injustice inequality and the lack of respect we simply just don`t get. Kneeling brought attention to all of the issues that America is going through also. Martin Luther King and Rosa Parks didn`t do things like they did for the world to be at the place it is now. One of the first amendments is freedom of speech and to peacefully assemble. People like white
Is kneeling during the National Anthem disrespectful to America. People have been asking this question for a year and a half right now. The National Anthem is a moment of time where we all become one, looking at the possibilities of the future. We honor the many people who served and who are serving in the armed forces and the public forces with great respect. They are the light of which blocks out the darkness, so it won't affect the United States of America. The United States of America is a beautiful place with many cultures and beliefs. We learn from each other new things that we can use to benefit our life's. The many instances of kneeling in the NFL have brought a large consequence to the financial side of the NFL and other associated businesses. In the NFL, viewership has dropped over 10 percent in the 2017 season so far. The NFL is a 13-billion-dollar business. The effects of the protest have led to almost a 2-billion-dollar loss in revenue. Kneeling in the NFL has created controversy and arguments that we cannot ignore forever.
July 4, 1776 was the day America became its own country. 231,000 Americans fought for America’s independence in the American Revolution. The National Anthem was written in 1814, after the soldiers kept the flag standing during the bombs being dropped in the War of 1812. Every war or battle in American history has been for America’s freedom. Many people think that wearing hats during the National Anthem is rude and disrespectful to the soldiers who have fought or died for America’s freedom, but what about kneeling? Kneeling during the National Anthem is rude and disrespectful to the soldiers that have fought for America. The NFL players began kneeling last year during the National Anthem as a protest to police brutality against different races. President Trump spoke out against the kneeling and was accused of suppressing the NFL players natural right. President Trump is not suppressing the NFL players rights because no one has been fired and he has just as much a freedom of speech as any other man in the United States.
The movement of NFL players kneeling during the national anthem is a symbol of peaceful protesting. It does not symbolize a rebellion, it instead serves as the way to get the point across that the people will not stand for the social and racial injustice done to other citizens of this country. The action bears no disrespect to veterans or any other patriot who has fought and/or died for the United States.
These protests are causing the NFL, and any other organization in which it is practiced, to lose business because some fans are boycotting the protests. Also, sports should be focused on sports since many of the players just want to play the sport in which they participate. Protesting disrespects the United States, its military and veterans, and its government and elected officials. During times of struggle, the focus should be on the community and how to induce positive change. An acceptable alternative to kneeling is interlocking arms to show the unification that they wish to have.
This being done mainly by football athletes, who are meaning to take a stand against, ‘’ police treatment of minorities.’’ (Stapleton) This, although, may be a noble cause, but is taken into action at an inappropriate time. The national anthem is sang for a multitude of reasons, and one being to show the strength and unity of our nation. Kneeling, on the other hand, goes against both of these ideas, and disrespects those who have fought for us. Kneeling shows a lack of care for the country that has bothered enough to fight a war amongst itself for the equality of those who
Have you ever sat down on Thursday, Monday, or Sunday to watch some espn NFL Football? Well I certainly have, Have you ever just looked at the players and realized they're getting paid millions to represent our country? Then they just start kneeling at games, That makes me disappointed in them for millions they still don’t respect the flag. Whenever I see a player kneel I always think, why are you kneeling, who even started this, and when was this started.
Most of the NFL athletes have no clue on what they are kneeling for, for example Collin Kaepernick was the first to start kneeling, then one after another others started following him and kneeling for the anthem not even knowing what they are protesting the flag for. In my eyes those are childish and disrespectful acts by players in the NFL in which can be fixed, or their contract can be terminated indefinetly. I can promise you that if you ask the players who kneel for the anthem why they are doing such an act, the majority of them wouldn’t be able to give you a relevant
Do you ever see on TV the NFL players kneeling during the national anthem? In 2016, after Kaepernick took a knee people were going crazy not knowing what to think. Most Americans do not believe that is the right thing to do, however, the NFL players also have a point. The NFL players that do kneel say they are kneeling for black Americans and against police brutality. Even the President says it is not right, and President Trump does have a point, also. Why Americans stand for the National Anthem , it sets examples for future generations, and it focuses on what unites the country.
