Current Event Assignment
Base on the scientist Zika virus is a mosquito and is only worse in pregnant women or in infants. According to the research, there are so many ways that you can prevent yourself from zika virus either do not get pregnant in those countries that are infected or get an abortion if you have the virus and wait for a while until there is either a vaccine, or the virus is controllable. I have leaned Ebola virus in class, but it seems like Ebola virus is so much worse and serious that zika to me. Ebola killed men and women of all age, it also could spread faster, while the zika virus is too weak to kill a grown man or woman, it only gives them a fever or a rush, also it does not spread from man to man that is it.
First isolated from a rhesus monkey in Uganda, the Zika virus (ZIK V) did not pose a serious global threat until recent outbreaks in 2007 on Yap Island in Micronesia and the current outbreak which began in 2013 in the French Polynesia. And, although the virus is transmitted via infected mosquitoes, studies indicate that the disease potentially can be transmitted sexually (Musso, D., Roche, C., Robin, E., Nhan, T., Teissier, A., and
Both diseases are spread through infected mosquitoes. The zika virus can be passed to a fetus if a pregnant woman is bitten. Also, the virus can be spread through sex. The virus can cause birth defects such as incomplete brain development. Some symptoms of the zika virus are fever, rash, joint pain, headache, red eyes, and muscle pain. (Center for Disease Control, 2017). The symptoms of muscle pain, joint pain, and fever are similar to victims of the yellow fever. Victims of the zika virus can also obtain Guillain-Barre Syndrome which attacks the nervous system. Also similar to the yellow fever in 1793, the zika virus does not have a vaccine. You can try to prevent it by wearing long sleeves and using insect repellant. The best treatments for the diseases are plenty of rest, hydration, and healthy food. The zika virus and the yellow fever are very
As an introduction, I start by explaining that Zika is spread by the bite of an Aedes mosquito, which is usually active in the daytime (but they can also bite at night). Sika can spread through sexual contact or from a pregnant woman to her fetus. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) concluded that Zika virus infection during pregnancy is a cause of microcephaly and other severe fetal brain defects.
In the recent article, “Zika outbreak: What you need to know” by the BBC, the World Health Organization released valuable information regarding how to detect the disease, and what steps you can take to prevent it. Some of the common symptoms of Zika are; mild fever, red and sore eyes, headaches, joint pain, and rashes. Death from Zika is rare, but a very uncommon disorder can be caused by Zika called Guillain-Barré syndrome. This disorder will cause temporary paralysis. As of now, there are no drugs or vaccines that will help prevent Zika, but those who have the disease should rest and drink plenty of water. The largest concern regarding Zika is the impact it has on fetuses still developing in the womb. Zika can cause another serious disorder
I created an exciting fast-paced informative video about the Zika virus to support the community. This video helps to understand how the virus started to spread and its consequences, it also provides some tips on how to prevent and prepare for its’ dangerous attack in South Florida.
The Zika Virus outbreak currently developing in Latin America is a challenge that the US must worry about. With Latin America being right next door to the United States, the Zika Virus must be contained within Latin America but Latin America should be offered some relief in treating and preventing the disease. More specifically, the US should emplace traveling restrictions for heavily infected countries and regulate health exams for people traveling to South America. The US should also enforce tighter mosquito season requirements like monitoring mosquito populations and require spraying in areas with suspected cases. In terms of international relations, the US, in collaboration with other world powers, should adopt policies to help stop the spread of viral diseases like Ebola and other diseases like Zika by working with
Many scientists all around have heard of a virus before, but not as infectious as the zika virus. This virus can ruin a little infant. But one truism statement about this virus, which freaks out scientists, is that it is carried by mosquitos. Terrible isn't it? If I were you, I would think to myself what will make this virus restrain itself? Well in order to stop it the best solution is to splat the mosquitos; because well let's face it, mom's little children that have been born wouldn't want to have a small head and a big body. Lots of people came back with this virus but the devastated citizens didn't notice this virus coming to
As of now, there is no official vaccine for Zika. Instead, a patient that has the contagion must undergo certain treatments. Fortunately, the remedies for the virus are simple and cheap. If infection occurs, it is vital to get an abundance of rest and liquids; medication is also advised to assist in alleviating pain. The treatments for Zika are straightforward because the disease itself is rather mild. In fact, in most reported cases of the virus in the United States, the illness only lasted approximately two to seven days prior to the first set of symptoms (“World Health Organization”). It is evident that the fear associated with the Zika Virus is slightly exaggerated. Currently, there is only one recorded fatality in the United States that is directly related to Zika (“The Washington Post”). This is mainly because first world countries’ medical programs are advanced enough to effectively treat the virus. The standard of living in these countries are also higher compared to third world countries. That is why Zika has claimed a significant amount of lives worldwide; the poor conditions in these countries make it difficult for infected individuals to get proper
February 1, 2016 the World Health announced a PHEIC (Public Health Emergency of International Concern) that declared the Zika virus was a global health emergency. Brazil being the most affected country in the world right now has cases where pregnant women with the virus have given birth to children with smaller heads causing their brains to not develop correctly. The Zika virus is a flavivirus (Karimi) that is related to the common dengue virus and West Nile disease. A flavivirus is a group of RNA (a ribonucleic acid), that are mostly carried by mosquitoes, flies, fleas, etc. The virus carried causes severe human diseases, that are most commonly related to the Dengue and West Nile disease. The disease
The Zika virus is spreading throughout the world. The Zika is a virus spread through mosquito bites. The Zika virus isn’t a new virus, it was discovered in the 1940s. The Zika virus has increased in places like Brazil and French Polynesia. The virus is harmful to pregnant women because, it increases the change in babies being born with microcephaly. If I was in this situation, I would wear thick clothing to prevent a mosquito from biting me. The conflict could be solved with more treatment being made.
What is the Zika Virus? Zika, is a virus that is known to come from a certain species of tropical Mosquitoes (The Aedes Aegypti). As stated before, a pregnant woman who carries the Zika virus can give their unborn child the Zika virus, which can endanger them of Microcephaly. Microcephaly is a form of brain damage or incomplete brain development, which results in an abnormally, under average, sized skull. While, the Zika virus is a serious problem toward infants and newborns, Zika can actually be non harmful towards adults. An adult present with Zika, can have fever for several days, rash, joint pain, and/or itchy red eyes. Yet, if Microcephaly wasn’t formed as an infant, Zika in adults is not a topic of concern.
The Zika virus is primarily spread through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito (https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/22/7/15-1990_article). The Zika virus can pass from a pregnant woman to her fetus during pregnancy, which can result in serious birth defects such as microcephaly and Down syndrome. Currently the virus has not been found in breast milk. Zika can also be sexually transmitted. Evidence has been found in blood donors that do not show any signs or symptoms of having the Zika virus. Blood transfusions and organ transplants can also be another way for the virus to be transmitted
In conclusion the zika virus is a dangerous thing to the humans and the other animals out in the world. I hope you have learn something about this. Like the effect it could have on you or other
Zika can hurt adults in different ways, Zika can destroy brain cells and a lot of cells at once. Which means it can prevent parts of the brain that are not fully developed yet. Zika can make people have deformed skulls,
The magnitude of the Ebola virus outbreak of 2014-2015 was unforeseen and unplanned, leading to lasting social, political and economic implications. “The Ebola virus rose from an isolated case and, within 18 months, various countries in West Africa including Sierra Leone, Liveria and Guinea recorded 11, 147 deaths from the virus, including 507 deaths of healthcare workers” (Grinnell, Dixon, Patton, Fitter, Bilivogui, Johnson, Dotson, Diallo, Rodier & Raguhunathan, 2015). Foreign and domestic nurses made up the majority of the healthcare professionals who risked their lives to help contain and treat the Ebola epidemic (“Protect Nurses on Frontline Says ICN”, 2015). Specifically, reports from the International Council of Nurses (ICN) indicate
