Review of the Literature Introduction Today’s youth are the leaders of tomorrow. “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers as an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith….” (1 Timothy 4:12, KJV). The quote depicts a fair and accurate attitude that ties in intently with the review in that former foster children must take some responsibility and care of their own well-being, if they can. In a study (Abrams et al., 2008), it is pointed out that TAYs struggle with trusting due in part to having been shuffled around in multiple placements while in care. “They did not particularly care to build relationships with someone for almost a year and then you’re on your own” (p. 532). What is obvious is that these older youths have trouble connecting and bonding with others after they leave care. Friedman (2014) states that self-reflection can help when engaging with those who struggle with building trust. To self-reflect, requires paying close attention to one’s own feelings, thoughts and internal sensations, such as staying in the moment.
