In the poem “Casey at Bat” and story “David and Goliath,” a comparison and contrast will show several differences and similarities between David and Casey. The first similarity between David and Casey is that both of them are very confident in the task that they have to accomplish. Text from “Casey at Bat” says, “There was pride in Casey’s bearing and a smile on Casey’s face. And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat, No stranger in the crowd could doubt ‘twas Casey at the bat.” “David and Goliath” says, “Today the Lord will help me defeat you. I’ll knock you down and cut off your head, and I’ll feed the bodies of the other Philistine soldiers to the birds and wild animals.” “Casey at Bat” explains how Casey was very confident …show more content…
He killed him without even using a sword.” Secondly, this quote explains how David killed Goliath and succeeded greatly.Secondly, a difference between Casey and David is that Casey had an encouraging crowd at his baseball game that was very confident in him, whereas David had no encouragement from the people around him. “Casey at Bat” says, “Then from 5,000 throats and more there rose a lusty yell; It rumbled through the valley, it rattled in the dell; It knocked upon the mountain and recoiled upon the flat, For Casey, mighty Casey, was advancing to the bat.” As the first quote explains how Casey had a huge crowd cheering him on that was very confident in him. In “David and Goliath” it says, “Some soldiers overheard David talking, so they told Saul what David had said. Saul sent for David, and David came. 32 “Your Majesty,” he said, “this Philistine shouldn’t turn us into cowards. I’ll go out and fight him myself!” 33 “You don’t have a chance against him,” Saul replied. “You’re only a boy, and he’s been a soldier all his life.” No one had faith in David and no one thought that David would succeed, which is explained in this quote.A final difference between Casey and David is that Casey was independent, but David was not
In the poem “ Casey at the bat” and the story of “David and Goliath” a comparison shows that there are many differences in the story and the poem and many similarities. The first similarity between Casey and David is that they both had faith that they would win. David had faith that he would win because David stated “ I’ll knock you down and cut off your head,” this quote shows that David had all faith that he would beat Goliath. Also in the poem “Casey at the bat” Casey had faith that he would win. This is correct because the author stated, “Defiance gleamed in Casey’s eye, a sneer curled Casey’s lip.” This quote shows that Casey had faith that he would hit the ball by the defiance in Casey’s eye. The next of Casey and David is they both
any sort of a victory, approached the plate with his chest puffed out in a strong cocky
Baseball player. Born George Herman Ruth, Jr., on February 6, 1895, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the first of eight children born to Kate and George Herman Ruth, Sr. Most of the Ruth children died in infancy and only George Jr. and his sister Mamie survived to maturity. Little George, as he was called, grew up in a poor waterfront neighborhood in Baltimore, where he lived above the family saloon.
This is the evidence from “David and Goliath” to show the second difference, “ But if I kill him, your people will be our slaves”, and for the evidence from “Casey at Bat” to show the difference is “But there is no joy in Mudville – mighty Casey has struck out”. In “David and Goliath” how the quote shows the difference is by when Goliath says if I kill the Israelites soldier and David is going to be the soldier, so that means he is going to die. In “Casey at Bat” how the quote shows the difference is the quote is at the end and it doesn’t say anything about him dieing and at the end. The third and last difference is that in “Casey at Bat” it is just a game for show or entertainment and in “David and Goliath” the people are fighting for a country and slavery. The evidence in “David and Goliath” is is when the story says “your people will be our slaves.” and in “Casey at Bat” the evidence to show the difference is when it says “A sickly silence fell upon the patrons of the game.”. In the quote from “David and Goliath” shows the difference by when Goliath says the people will be our slaves which is in the quote and the Israelis are fighting so they won’t be slaves and in “Casey at Bat” how the quote shows it is different is that when it says game and games are made
The first difference of David and Casey is that Casey fails and David succeeds. The first quote from “David and Goliath” that shows David succeeds is “He put a rock in his sling and swung the sling around by its straps. When he let go of one strap, the rock flew out and hit Goliath on the forehead. It cracked his skull, and he fell facedown on the ground. 50 David defeated Goliath with a sling and a rock.
In the story “David and Goliath” and the poem “Casey at the Bat” the characters Casey and David can be compared to have a various amount of similarities and differences. The first similarity is that David and Casey were both confident with themselves. In the poem “Casey at the Bat” the author states “There was ease in Casey’s manner as he stepped into his place. There was pride in Casey’s bearing and a smile on Casey’s face. And when, responding to the cheers, he lightly doffed his hat.”
To add to this thought, David was positive he was going to win that fight. He knew that God was on his side that was why he was confident in himself. In, “ Casey at the Bat”, Casey was unwavering and steady because he was focused on fame and hitting that last ball. He was absolutely positive of his ability. In result of his actions he struck out and lost the game for the team. Both Casey and David has a lot of comparable traits, but they were also different in many ways. In the Bible story, “David and Goliath”, David was unselfish. He went out there and fought for everybody. He was not concerned about himself. The poem, “Casey at the Bat” says,” “That ain’t my style,” said Casey. “Strike one,” the umpire said. From the benches, black with people, there went up a muffled roar,” Using the poem, it can be inferred that Casey was selfish and for this purpose he was sticking out so the people would cheer his name louder. He was very self-absorbed and because of that he lost the game for everybody. That also goes hand in hand with another difference. Casey is not dependable or
In the poem “Casey at Bat” and story “ David and Goliath,” a comparison of David and Casey shows differences and similarities. First, a similarity between Casey and David are they both filled with courage. In “Casey at Bat” it says “They thought, if only Casey could get but a whack at that We’d put up even money, now, with Casey at the bat. ”In “The Story of David and Goliath” it expresses, “You’ve come out to fight me with a sword and a spear and a dagger. But I’ve come out to fight you in the name of the Lord All-Powerful.”
The text from Casey at Bat says this, “And the former was a lulu and the latter was a cake;”, which isn’t really said anymore, but is more recent than David and Goliath. The text from David and Goliath shows that they were in Bible Times by saying, “King Saul and the Israelite army set up camp on a hill overlooking Elah Valley, and they got ready to fight the Philistine army that was on a hill on the other side of the valley.” The Philistines, Israelites, and King Saul were armies and people from the Bible. The last difference between David and Casey is that David is more confident in God, while David is confident in himself. David knew God would be by his side, because the verses say, “The Lord has rescued me from the claws of lions and bears, and he will keep me safe from the hands of this Philistine.”
In the poem ¨Casey at the Bat¨ and Bible story ¨David and Goliath¨ the characters David and Casey have many similarities and differences. The first way that they are similar is they were both faced with big problems. David’s big problem was that he had to face a giant, in the Bible it says, “ 4 The Philistine army had a hero named Goliath who was from the town of Gath and was over nine feet tall. 5 He wore a bronze helmet and had bronze armor to protect his chest and legs. The chest armor alone weighed about one hundred twenty-five pounds. He carried a bronze sword strapped on his back, 7 and his spear was so big that the iron spearhead alone weighed more than fifteen pounds. A soldier always walked in front of Goliath to carry his shield.” ,and, “ 41 Goliath came toward David, walking behind the soldier who was carrying his shield.” which means they were about to fight.
Since God's presence follows David, Saul “put a coat of armor on him and a bronze helmet on his head.” (1 Samuel 17:38) The small peasant reaches the cave of his problems which places David directly in front of Goliath. A nine foot giant clashes with a small sheep tender from the town of Bethlehem. The loser of the battle soon became the victors servants which means David needs to defeat Goliath.
In the poem “Casey at the bat” and the story “David and Goliath” there are similarities and differences. The characters Casey and David have similarities. One of these similarities is that they are both confident. In “David and Goliath” it says,”Today the Lord will help me defeat you. I’ll knock you down and cut off your head, and I’ll feed the bodies of the other Philistine soldiers to the birds and wild animals.” This shows that David is confident that the lord will help him kill Goliath. In “Casey at the bat” it says,”Close by the sturdy batsman the ball unheeded sped–
In the classic story of David and Goliath, David-a small, agile fighter- battles Goliath-a very large "monster" of a human. No one expected David to win, as he was much smaller than Goliath. All were in shock when David fights Goliath using projectiles, yet it worked. "Then he reaches into his shepherd's bag for a stone, and at that point no one watching from the the other side of the valley would consider David's victory improbable. David was a slinger and slingers beat infantry, hands down" Gladwell continues, "Goliath had as much chance with David as any Bronze Age warrior with a sword had against a modern day soldier with forty five automatic pistol" (26). The dual not only reveals the disparity between power dynamics, this is given because of the size difference they have. But, society still make this mistake
After defeating Goliath, whose head lies at David's feet, he rests his sword by his side. It seems almost impossible that such a young boy as David could have accomplished such a task. The look portrayed on David himself too seems doubtful of the deed, as he glances down towards Goliath?s head at his feet.
Ever going David “I am David”, is a fiction novel that tells a story about David, a kid that runs away from camp and he tries to get to Denmark while having troubles on the way. He does not know what to eat sometimes, because he has no seen most of the food and he learns a lot of things during his trip. He tries to be fair and he would not fight back to a person that was punching him because he would be no good as the person that is fighting him. After his journey he still is David. Davis is brave, he would do brave things that other people would not do.
