There were a few different events that led up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. Japan taking over Manchuria, ignoring the League of Nations when they reprimanded this behavior, joining the Axis powers, and the embargo put on them by the United States were just a few of the incidents that led up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. It all started with Japan deciding to take over Manchuria. Manchuria was a small resource-rich province in China. In 1931, Japan executed their plan and invaded Manchuria. They took Manchuria and turned it into one of their own states by the name of Manchukuo. After the invasion of Manchuria, in 1937, the Japanese continued their expansion. They took over more of China killing some 300,000 people. By the end of World War II, China would suffer over fourteen million losses. The League of Nations, an early form of the United Nations, highly rebuked these hostile actions. They said it violated the “Open Door” Policy. The policy ensured …show more content…
On the morning of December 7, 1941, the Japanese launched an air raid on Pearl Harbor. It came as a complete and utter surprise to the Americans. It started at 7 AM on a Sunday morning. Two United States Army privates were just getting done with their shift when they saw something on their radar. They immediately called the information center on the other side of the island. They reached an army lieutenant. The lieutenant assured them that it was just a fleet of American B-17s. This was a major mistake made during the attack on Pearl Harbor. Carefully, Japanese aircraft flew through the mountains of Oahu avoiding radar detection. The attack started at 7:58 AM. Forty-three fighters, fifty-one dive-bombers, forty-nine high-level bombers, and forty torpedo bombers attacked Pearl Harbor killing thousands of men and injuring thousands more and sunk or damaged eighteen United States warships. It so happened, that at the time of the attack, all three of the Pacific Fleet’s aircraft carrier were not at the harbor at the time of the attack. this was crucial to the success of the United States Navy in the Pacific. In just a little over two hours, the Japanese inflicted a major blow on the United States Navy. The aftermath was
To begin with, the underlying cause of Japan attacking Pearl Harbor has to deal with the United States stopping Japan’s efforts to create a new world order. In 1938, Japan announced their plan for a new
Japan had been the one to bomb Pearl Harbor. The bombs had killed more than 2,300 Americans in the Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii Territory. This act had destroyed the U.S.S. Arizona and the U.S.S. Oklahoma completely. This attack had beached and /or sank ships but damaged about 9 others. Aircrafts were destroyed and damaged.
The attack on Pearl Harbor was a tragic event which occurred on December 7, 1941. As some call it, this was the awakening of the sleeping giant. World War 2 had already started and the US had attempted to stay neutral but as Japan dropped bombs over the island of Oahu on the US naval base the US was sent straight into war. Japan was upset and angry and the US for the things they have been doing lately so they finally got tired of it and they dropped bombs on Pearl Harbor.
(Higgs). Japan was angered by the United States putting these sanctions on them, as they thought of the attack on China as internal affairs. As many countries in Europe also placed economic sanctions on Japan , that led to Japan withdrawing from the League of Nations in 1933. After withdrawing from the League of Nations, Japan launched a huge attack on eastern China and eventually Japan took over the capital of China, Nanking. ("Japan Launches A Surprise Attack on Pearl Harbor: December 7, 1941"). The view on Japan to worsened when Japan sunk an American Gunboat, Panay, while the boat was on patrol on the Yangtze River. The Japanese later apologized for the sinking of the Panay but the chances for an American-Japanese battle increase. ("Japan Launches A Surprise Attack on Pearl Harbor: December 7, 1941").

The first attack against the U.S. done by the Japanese was the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor just before 8 a.m., it was devastating. The Japanese fighter planes destroyed around 20 naval ships and eight of them were some of the United State’s biggest battleships. The Japanese didn’t just destroy vessels, they also managed to destroy around 300 airplanes. The amount of American soldier’s lives lost was heart-rending, there were over 2,000 Soldiers and Sailors lost from the American fleet. The day of the Pearl Harbor attacks became known as “a date which will live in infamy”, and this day was only the beginning. This was only the midpoint of Japan’s attacks, the second half was the Bataan Death March.
As Harry Albright once said, “Underlying every successful naval or military operation there must be a plan,” and after accessing the damage, President Roosevelt would recuperate and strike back. In terms of destruction and fatality, 2300 American servicemen died and 68 civilians perished as well in the attack. Many of the vessels docked in Pearl Harbor were lost or destroyed, 18 of them, and 188 aircraft was damaged (Richardson). The Japanese decided the attack “would come in two waves one hour apart. First target priority would be the large American aircraft carriers, then the battleships and the cruisers,” (Albright p.51).

Pearl Harbor was one of the greatest tragedies ever to Americans. This horrible act committed by the Japanese was enough to send the United States, which was neutral at the time, into World War II. As some people said this was the awakening of a "Sleeping Giant”.

The Japanese Attack on Pearl Harbor Introduction On December 7, 1941 at 7:30am, occurred a disastrous event that changed the American History. It started with Japan's plans to build an empire of countries in which they could control completely in the Southeast Asia and the Pacific, but United States, didn't like that and banned all exports to Japan. Japan knew the only country that could mess up their plans and stop them was, America. So they decided to destroy the greatest naval force there was, the US Pacific Fleet Pearl Harbor, especially the fleet and three aircraft carriers.
The morning of December 7, Japan ships were within 230 miles of Hawaii, but were not noticed because of the changed radio signals. An hour before the attack Washington intercepted a message from Japan threatening war. They forwarded the message to Hawaii minutes before the attack, but Hawaii did not receive until after the attack. The attack lasted two hours, and came in two waves. The first wave came in undetected, and consisted of 183 fighters, bombers, and torpedo planes. The second wave came in, and faced resistance from American anti-aircraft fire. The attack destroyed 19 vessels and around 250 aircraft, and killed 2400 soldiers. 90% of the damage was caused by the first wave of
