On December 7, 1941 an attack on Pearl Harbor occurred. The japanese navy air service surprisingly attacked the United States naval base located on Hawaiian Territory. As a result, the united states entered world war 2. The US and Japan had been in conflict with each other for a while now. Japan then decided to attack pearl harbor for multiple reasons. Some reasons were due to the oil embargo, the us fleet expansion, and Japan's desire for a new world order.
To begin with, japan attacked pearl harbor because of the situation of the oil embargo. One reason is because the US did not want to keep sending oil to Japan . For example, Document C declares, “ The United States imposes an embargo on oil shipments to Japan”( Document C 327). In addition from 1937 through 1941 most of Japanese imports came from the US. Statistics show in document D that by the late 1930’s about 80% of Japan's oil came from the United states. Japan did not like the fact that they no longer were able to obtain oil from the us. As a result they targeted the US and were angry at them. Therefore, they decided to attack on pearl harbor.

In addition, Document C states, “ US Congress passes Naval expansion act. Promises to triple fleet size by 1944” (Document C 327). Moreover, this occurred during the year of 1940 in the month of July. Furthermore, with this Japan believed the US would succeed and arise becoming more powerful. In addition, the Japanese thought that allowing this fleet expansion gave the us power to build up its forces and stop Japanese expansion. The japanese feared this and did not want to allow it to happn. As a result, they chose to attack on pearl
Japan first took over Manchuria in 1932 (document 1). This was the first of many German- Influenced attacks prior to the bombing of pearl harbor. In the year 1939, two years preceding to the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the United States stopped all trade of aircraft and aircraft parts against Japan and two years later additionally froze all japanese assets and bank accounts, and imposed oil embargo against Japan. (document 1) From the year 1937 to 1941, the U.S exports of Petroleum to Japan in total decreased by 2,920,000 tons, the exports of steel to Japan decreased 403,000 tons, and the exports of scrap iron decreased by 167,000 tons. (document 5) From this data, it is hard to say that we remained neutral prior to the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The U.S. supported its allies with this embargo, but didn’t fully commence in the war until after the bombing of Pearl
Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on the Pretense of expanding their area of control. Document A the Japanese Ministry of Education on August 1, 1941, states “An old order … (European and American) … is now crumbling.” (Doc A). Meaning not only the Germans fighting the British, French and other European countries, including the US who supplies them, are losing the war. “The Benevolent Rule of the Emperor may be extended so as to embrace the whole world.” (Doc A). In this weaken world the Japanese are will take over and the kind and generous Emperor would then rule the world. A Map, Document B shows just how much the Japanese took in their plot for World domination. The Japanese took over Manchukuo, Taiwan, and the bottom half of Sakhalin by 1932, Tonking and stealing parts of
On December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. It was indeed a great shock to the United States, many documents show that the bombing on Pearl Harbor was an attempt to stop the United States from entering into World War II. This attack was the turning in point World War II, and United States making the decision to help the Allies. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because of its narcissistic political mentality and angered by United States placing the embargo act on oil.
The first reason why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor is because Japan had different beliefs then America. In document A it shows that the Japanese are being educated that the laws and rules of American are crumbling. Japan believed that their laws are greater and superior of those who are not from Japan. This created hate on the other nations. Japanese also believed that Japan has the best source of the Yamato race. The Yamato race simply means the pure natives of Japan. This is making their race greater than anyone else. The last evidence in document A is that you have to be loyal to the Emperor no matter what you believe. All the Japanese are required to unite and serve one leader, making them different than America. Americas law and people are
To begin with, one reason why Japan dropped bombs on Pearl Harbor was because the US froze all Japanese bank accounts and assets as stated in Document C. This happened in July 1941. When the US does this it means that Japan cannot withdrawal or deposit their money. This also keeps them from making transactions. Japan can no longer buy war supplies, oil, or other things that they need. This would obviously make Japan angry as it limits them as a country if they can't buy things or actually use their money.
The attack on Pearl Harbor has been known for years since the attack, but do you know the reason why? Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941 at around 7:55 AM. About 400 Japanese planes bombarded the American naval base in Hawaii killing an abundance of our soldiers and sinking large ships. Also going on around this time was WWII in Europe against Germany. Japan had the same intentions that Germany and Italy had. And that was expansion of world power. So why did Japan attack Pearl Harbor? The attack on the US by Japan was made because Japan had its plans to create a new world order, the US embargo on oil, and Japan wanted to weaken our Navy fleet.
The Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was not quite as random as people may think, they didn't just attack us without reason. They saw our acts of helping the moving of cargo for allied ships as us helping the allies, and Pearl Harbor was their retaliation.
The United States ultimately ended up joining the war after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. However, there were many things going on that caused the event to happen. The U.S stopped giving the Japanese oil, the U.S froze Japanese bank accounts, and Japan saw the U.S building up their army. These events are the main reasons why Pearl Harbor was bombed.
Firstly, the main reason why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor is due to the embargo the U.S. laid on Japan. In 1937, Japan attacked China and further invaded into their territory. To prevent from further destruction of their ally, the U.S. stopped all trade with Japan. In 1939, the “U.S. began an embargo of aircraft and aircraft parts against Japan.” (Document C) Later on, the United States would result in freezing all Japanese assets and bank accounts.(Document C) With no money, this sent Japan’s economy tumbling down. The final straw was when the U.S. decided to “impose an embargo on oil shipments to Japan.” (Document C) In the late 1930’s, 80% of Japan’s oil came from the United States ranging from as high as 380 tons. Since then, this rate had dropped. (Document D) At the time, Japan highly depended on the resource of oil to be able to build up their
This fear was that the U.S. Pacific Fleet in Pearl Harbor would disrupt these plans. This caused Japan to make the decision to surprisingly attack Pearl Harbor, which was a U.S. base, as a precaution. Even though the U.S. did not think Japan would go out o fits way to attack a base that was 4,000 miles away, the Japanese though Pearl Harbor was a target that was irresistible, they had to attack. Their plan was one that was very simple, they wanted to destroy the Pacific Fleet so that U.S would not be able to fight back as Japans forces spread across the South Pacific. So after month of planning the attack, when they finally did it America was in shock, and wanted
It wasn’t a sudden decision of the Japanese army to bomb Pearl Harbor, it was a long series of events which led to Pearl Harbor bombing. In fact, in the years antecedent to 1941 there was a lot of tension between the two countries. There were several events which scattered the attack on Pearl Harbor which was then used by the American government as an alibi to declare war to Japan. Over the course of the 1930s, Japan's increasingly expansionist policies brought it into renewed conflict with its neighbors, Russia and China (1).
( Source B: Pearl harbour: Rude Awakening) ( Bruce Robinson Introduction). As Japan continued it's intensified search for a permanent alternative by targeting South East Asia which was rich in minerals and oil, war with America would become a reality if it went ahead with a full scale invasion of that region. Japan needed the time and space to conquer South East Asia successfully. The attack on Pearl Harbour was the answer. It would destroy America's Pacific fleet giving Japan long enough space and time to secure the resources it needed.
Prior to WWII, Japan expanded into other countries like China and Manchuria to gain resources because Japan didn’t want to rely on the United States for resources and nearly eighty percent of their oil (Doc D). The invasion of Manchuria made the United States suspicious of Japan’s intent, but when China was invaded, the United States confirmed their skepticism and stopped trading military equipment with Japan. Two years later, in 1941, Japanese-American oil trades embargoed and banking assets froze. The trade cut off prevented the Japanese’s goal of becoming a world power because they couldn’t fuel their military or their industries. Therefore, the action infuriated the leaders of Japan and such anger was expressed during an Imperial Conference when Hideki Tojo stated to his fellow board members that the United States can’t do as she wants and let other countries suffer (Doc E). This conference helped organize the bombing and influenced the spread of Japanese hate toward America. Just as Europe and the United States did when fabricating the Treaty of Versailles, Japan took action in the interest of their country first and bombed Pearl Harbor in the same year as trade flow stopped. The bombing represented revenge against the trade cutoff and for preventing the completion of their
Japan attacked Pearl Harbor because they wanted to keep us out of the war with their allies in Germany and France. They said they wanted to stop us from joining the war but in the long run ity made is a bigger part of the war. Later after the attack, a message was sent to Japan from America stating they were going to bomb Japan. They ended up bomb Tokyo and Hiroshima. Japan over all wanted to cut our naval base in Hawaii so we would no longer try to take over islands in the Pacific
In addition, Japan were keen on expanding their empire and had to make a decision between surrendering or going to war with the United States. Lastly, United States had not yet entered the Second World War, because they were still reeling from depression due to the First World War. United States did, however, still possess the strongest naval fleets. In that perspective, the Japanese were almost as strong as the American navy. As time passed, America favored more and more towards joining the war. The Japanese anticipated a full-blown naval war with America and therefore, decided to act first by bombing Pearl Harbor which was a key terrain feature in the Pacific due to it’s massive and deep harbor for naval ships.
