Defiant And Brave: Rosa Parks

“Memories of our lives, of our works, and our deeds will continue in others.” – Rosa Parks. Rosa Parks was a prestigious woman who stood up for what she believed in and started the largest, most successful, mass movements, against racial segregation in history. She was the esteemed artist of the new and soon improved life. Her dedication and inspiration towards others is what makes her an artist.

“You must never be fearful about what you are doing when it is right.” This was said by Rosa Parks. She was an enormous inspiration to the African American Race. She was one among many who lived in a rough time for African Americans. She lived in a time when equality wasn’t really equal. When African Americans were scared/ weren’t allowed to state their opinions on different matters. However, Rosa Parks was an individual who stood up for herself. Rosa Parks helped the Civil Rights Movement and African Americans gain equality mainly through her courage and refusal to move.

Who inspires me is rosa park because she stood up for what was right. She knew it was wrong that people with darker skin were mistreated. So she made a great decision and changed how people thought and did to people with darker colored skin. That's why I like her she knew it was wrong and did what was wright. If she never did that how would people with darker colored skin be treated today. I'm very thankful that she did that it changed the world and made it better.

Civil rights activist Rosa Parks was born on February 4, 1913, in Tuskegee, Alabama. At the age of two she moved to her grandparents' farm in Pine Level, Alabama with her mother and younger brother, Sylvester. At the age of 11 she enrolled in the Montgomery Industrial School for Girls, a private school founded by liberal-minded women from the northern United States. The school's philosophy of self-worth was consistent with Leona McCauley's advice to "take advantage of the opportunities, no matter how few they were." Her refusal to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a Montgomery, Alabama bus spurred a city-wide boycott. One of the most influential and inspirational women of all time was Rosa Parks. By one action she helped change the lives of a majority of African Americans and more importantly society as a whole. Rosa Parks sparked the attention of America when she refused to settle for the black (lower class)standards. Not only did she help change the lives for many African Americans but she helped equality for all men and women in the United States. By one brave women our world will be forever thankful.

Rosa Parks is a civil rights activist and is a tragic hero known for her Strength, bravery, wisdom, peace and perseverance taking a major role in the Montgomery bus boycott and standing up against oppression, She and many others stood up for their rights, She refused to surrender her seat on a segregated Montgomery Alabama city bus on the day of December 1, 1955 which began the 381 day long Montgomery Bus Boycott which then helped launch the nation wide efforts to end segregation of public facilities.

Even though Rosa Parks stood up for her rights she still suffered after the arrest. She lost her department store job and her husband was fired because he talked about Rosa’s legal case to his boss. They had to leave Montgomery because they could not find any other jobs, no one would hire her. They ended up moving to Detroit Michigan and she found a job as a secretary and receptionist in U.S. Representative John Conyers congressional office. She also started to serve on the board of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Civil Disobedience is the act of purposely opposing and breaking a law that has been created by the government. When one hears the word "disobedience", one pulls a negative connotation from it; however, Civil Disobedience can sometimes lead to great and immense positive change that can benefit society as a whole. Two wonderful examples of this can be seen in Rosa Parks' refusal to relinquish her seat to a white man, and in MLK'S "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" where he states why he and his fellow marchers must continue to practice Civil Disobedience and to march despite being told they would be arrested if they did so.

One cold December day a woman got onto a bus after a long shift at work, exhausted from the day she plopped down in a seat near the front. The next stop many white people boarded and the bus started to get full so they moved back until they reached the woman's seat. This was a problem because this woman, Rosa Parks, was black and had to move or she would end up in jail. Even with that knowledge, she refused to give that seat up. Many blacks faced this problem every day during the Civil Rights Movement, but weren't brave enough to stand up for their rights like Rosa was. The texts showed that he had a positive opinion about Rosa Parks and everything she did for the civil rights movement. Rosa Parks’ actions helped the civil rights movement propel forward and end desegregation. She refused to give up her seat on the bus to a white man and ended desegregation. This goes to show that one small act may have large and far-reaching effects.

“The only tired I was, was tired of giving in” (Parks). I was tired, tired of being oppressed, and tired of being stepped on by the law, and my fellow people. That was the only tired i felt. The Montgomery Bus protest sparked a fire that would be felt throughout the entire country, and it was the spark that ignited the fire of the civil rights movement that shook the world. The boycott was the first of it, once light was shown on the problem, she began travelling cross country spreading information about civil rights, and sparking more peaceful protest. Rosa Parks was an important figure that changed the direction of the United States of America. She was trying to get home from work that day, but she turned into an icon for the civil rights movement, and shined a light on the unfair treatment of african americans.

Rosa Parks was a Civil Rights Leader. She was a Civil Rights Leader because she refused to move for the white man. This showed that she wanted to change things for many people.

She is a hero for many other reasons, but this is one. One morning she was just sitting on a bus, she had no idea that minutes later everything would be totally different. Refusing to move out of her seat because she thought it was wrong to be judged based on the color of your skin. In the article Remembering Rosa Parks it states, “Parks and the civil rights generation fought for the fundamental principle that everyone in America deserves equal representation.” They did this even knowing the consequences and they still did it which made them brave. Some of the consequences even occurred involving in Rosa Parks getting arrested. Later that day police got called and she was taken to a police station and was arrested just because she didn't stand up. Although she was not the first person to do this, she was the most well know of this situation. Claudette Colvin was a 15 year old girl that did the same thing and got arrested. In the article Remembering Rosa Parks by Kevin Chappell it states, “ She was already an activist known, respected and impressive. Elevating her case was one of the best and most strategic things that the civil rights movement ever did.” This shows that because she was already well known it made a bigger impact than Claudette Colvin

Rosa Parks’ involvement in civil disobedience was due to personal influences. She chose to participate in civil disobedience to protest segregation rights, and she achieved success using this controversial method of standing up for what she strongly believes to be right. Civil disobedience is the form of protest of which the protesters deliberately violate a law (Suber). The aim of this civil disobedience was to bring a change in laws or government policies (Brownlee). To understand Rosa Parks role in civil disobedience, you must first have knowledge about her personal life.
