Defining Success In John Wooden's 'Pyramid Of Success'

I would define success as achieving a goal that you set out for. The three most important things on John Wooden's Pyramid of Success are Confidence, Condition and Fight. These create success in many ways. If you have confidence to win you will always win or come very close. If your team is in condition you will be able to outwork the other team and be success. And if you willing to fight to win then you will be successful in every accept of life. I thought these were important because of how the sports I play I use all of these to be successful in these and in life in general.

Success is something that all people strive for in life. Google defines success as the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. John Wooden, one of the most successful basketball coaches of all time, defines success as peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming. For you to understand of success I will explain the success from John Wooden’s pyramid of success, examples of success from the movie Hoosiers and our Skype with Bobby Plump, and success in my life.

When we hear the word “success”, we often think of wealth and money. To some people, the embodiment of being success is earning a lot of money. In fact, the concept of success is primarily based on how much money a person earns. However, each person views the definition of success differently. One way to define success is something that has more to do with flash than it does with substance. John Wooden, an American basketball player and coach view success as “a peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming” (JLP). John Wooden believes that true measure of success comes simply when someone do the best they can do, no matter what the outcome is. This shows that some people view success in a way that does not deal with wealth and money. Success is considered as one of the American Dream which each individual have at least dream of achieving it at some point in their life. Although this simple word can be defined in various ways, to achieve success require rigorous hard work, sacrifices, strong motivation and a wild interpretation of success.

To me success is accomplishing the goals, doing things the right way, and doing what you love.

Success is a word that really hard to define, because everyone will have a different definition for this word. In fact, there no exact definition for the word "success". For a student, maybe the success means to pass all courses of the semester; for a business man, signing a importance contract and get a lot of money are successes; and for a president, leading the country to develop and make the people have a better life are success. For me, I also have my own definition for the word "success". When I was a kid, I really want to be a scientist, but after I become mature, my thinking has become more mature and my definition of success also

The definition of success is in the eye of the beholder. More than three-fourths of your life is spent working to become successful. People are told during childhood to work as hard as they can so they can grow up and make lots of money. But the word success can be taken in many different ways. Everyone has a different understanding of what success means to them. Generally, success means fulfilling the goals that you set for yourself. For some, success is measured by popularity and riches; for others success is determined by the amount of happiness that they feel.

The definition of success differs from person to person. According to the “Poolside” Cadillac commercial, success is having a large house, nice family and a new car. How is that success accomplished? According to the mainstream media, success is achieved through hard work and perseverance. Not by taking extravagant vacations, or working for only a few hours a day. Success for others on the other hand could be having a large amount of free time. The media gives examples of what they think success is, but ultimately it’s up to the person to decide what is success is.

What is the real definition of success, in fact is there even a definition? Well, in the book Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell it is the story of success. Some successful people are born with talent, and skills. As others may have to put in hard work to get to where they are. Every successful person is different, which means there is no definition for being successful. Being successful is made of many different categories. Many successful people are born with talents, put in hard work, and are different from everyone else.

What is success? Is success something that you can eat? Is it a physical object you can touch or a psychological feeling in the mind? Success is characterized differently by various people. For some people it means wealth. Others it means happiness. To me, success means making sure my family is living a healthy happy life. It means making valuable life decisions and having a feeling of belonging. Success is not only about helping yourself reach full potential. It is about bringing others along and giving them the opportunity to excel together in life.

Touching on some key tenets of his pyramid of success, he provides what is ideal, what if followed would lead to great success. The pyramid ideals don’t really aptly fit in today’s business environment. Most of the times, the flag is usually highly held up by the leader, a C.E.O or the managing director of an organization. The staff usually does not follow through with these aspirations. Workers are not enthusiastic about their job roles; they are there because they needed a job. They thus do not care about being their very best in what they do. Leaders also have no time to make the staff work as a team; to some leadership is not a calling. It is something they have to do to earn a living which is a really pitiful situation.

“Success” is a term that is a part of our daily life. It can be defined in a variety of ways, such as achievements, awards, and college degrees. Some will even deem success as having a family, having a well-paying job, or even feel that living an uncomplicated life of contentment. But in the world that we live in today, there is not a set definition of success to go by. Only you as a person can give the meaning of success.

Success is like a flower, always blooming everywhere, you just have to look. My definition of success is winning every baseball game that is possible to win. First, winning to me is a success, no matter what, I would rather have a win than a loss any day. Second, a successful person to me is Johnny Bench, he is and has been one of the best major league baseball players of all time in my opinion. Also, another successful baseball player that I think is a success is Babe Ruth, one of the best overall players ever, I think. Therefore, success to me is winning because I do not like to lose ever.

In his poem, “What is Success,” Ralph Waldo Emerson gave priceless insight when he wrote:

What is success? Is it the process of doing a task and receiving a positive result acceptable amongst the community, or is it simply achieving ones own personal goals? Success to me can mean many things. Although I am successful in school, that does not necessarily mean I will lead a successful life.

One idea key idea presented by Dr. Gregg Steinberg’s seminar on leadership involves the use of a success pyramid for defining a personal definition of success and steps to achieve that success (G. Steinberg, personal communication, August 13, 2016). The pyramid of success was made famous in large part due to UCLA coach John Wooden and consists of building blocks that lead to greatness or success (Fifer, 2006). Dr. Steinberg stated that the pyramid of success or greatness has been used successfully by numerous head coaches in various athletic fields and has also been adapted to use in the business field (G.
