RESEARCH PAPER
Innovation and quality are two goals that every dental practice always would like to reach and keep to enhance their image in the dental field. Therefore, beyond the professional techniques of the dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants, continuing to look for better dental equipment is the key to drive a dental practice to its steady success. I believe, along with the growth of a general office, a curing light is an indispensable equipment. Nowadays, there are a variety of dental curing lights on the market. And I have seen 6 different curing lights at many different areas including PCC dental clinic, OHSU and Glisan Dental. However, I was impressed by Valo Cordless curing light from Ultradent exhibited at Oregon

“Standard power mode (1000 mW/cm2) is used for curing of restorative materials with photo initiators with four timing intervals: 5, 10, 15, 20 seconds you can choose from. High power mode (1400 mW/cm2) is used for initial curing of restorative materials with photo initiators, and for tacking of veneers, orthodontic brackets, and restorative materials with four timing intervals: 1, 2, 3, 4 seconds. Xtra power mode (3200 mW/cm2) is used for all dental curing, especially for deep curing of restorative materials, placing thin veneers, attaching orthodontic brackets and fast curing in pediatric settings with only 3 seconds” (Ultradent Product, Inc. Valo Cordless Curing Light, p.8-9). That means patients can get in and out of the dental chair faster with its short curing time. We can say this is powerful curing light with 3-in-1 feature which is the best choice for all those dental practices including specialties. To clarify its time-saving feature, I found a research as following, “Purpose: Determine the shortest curing time for three LED units to adequately polymerize sealant materials. Methods: Three sealants (opaque-unfilled, opaque-filled and clear-filled) were light-cured in a stone covered-slot mold with three LEDs (VALO, SmartLite, Fusion) at various curing times (6-15 seconds), and with a quartz tungsten halogen (QTH) light for 40 seconds as control. 24 hours after light-curing, microhardness was measured at the …show more content…
With large glass lens (9.5mm), Valo Cordless allows you to position the light easily and cure more surfaces at the same time so that you can save time and effort but get the same result. Meanwhile, light guide diameter ranges of the competitor lights are 6.5 - 7.4mm, which results in narrow width of
The field of dentistry has advanced very far since the start of civilization. In today’s world, technology is constantly changing and it happens with increasing speed. One invention that has become common in most dentist’s offices is the electric drill. Dentists also have perfected the use of the x-ray and use cutting-edge metal alloys to fill cavities and to crown decayed and destroyed teeth. Dentists should no longer be feared because they are equipped with the best tools and are some of the most educated professionals (Hovius 67).
The article mentioned about having an, “in-house lab saving time.” I can totally see how that can be true. Everyone is so busy these days that the less trips to the dental office the better. If there is a problem with the color, design or fit with the veneers or crowns and they were sent to an outside laboratory then it may take three or more trips to the dental office before it is correct. This causes unnecessary stress to the patient as well as the laboratory technician who is trying their best to get it correct. The dental offices who have an on-site dental laboratory can address the issue and I would think most times that by the follow-up appointment everything would be

The goal of polishing tooth structure is to smooth roughened surfaces, and produce a pleasing appearance and feel with minimal to no trauma to hard and soft tissues. The first step is to assess our patient's awareness of their overall mouth condition. Dental Hygienist must carefully evaluate and select the appropriate procedures, based on the individual patient needs, and the types of stains and restorations present in the mouth. The clinician must critically evaluate the potential adverse effects of the coronal polish procedure against the benefits and be able to educate the patient.
They keep the jaw relaxed, too, which makes the entire 20-minute procedure fairly comfortable. Dr. Thomas uses an LED accelerating light to active the whitening agent in the gel, and most people notice a significant difference after just one session. That being said, regular maintenance will help keep teeth brighter and whiter.
The laser vaporizes tissue it comes into contact with or cuts tissue, and it is strengthens the bond between a tooth and its filling when used during the curing process. It also boosts the tooth whitening process, acting as a heat source during this procedure," Dr. Daoud continues.
Esthetic restorations are in vogue today and their demand is increasing day by day. Composites represent two major advances in restorative dentistry. Composite resins have been introduced into the field of conservative dentistry to minimise the drawbacks of the acrylic resins that replaced silicate cements (the only aesthetic materials previously available) in the 1940s. In 1955, Buonocore used orthophosphoric acid to improve the adhesion of acrylic resins to the surface of the
Long treatment times can increase the risk of dental caries, gingival recession, and external apical root resorption (EARR) ( , ). Various techniques exist to accelerate tooth movement and thereby shorten treatment time ( ). Recently, a non-invasive form of therapy has emerged: low-level laser therapy (LLLT). LLLT uses low-level lasers to produce photochemical and non-thermal biological effects ( ). A more recent and appropriate term for LLLT is photobiomodulation (PBM), a term that includes non-laser light sources, and alludes to the physiologic nature of the therapy. PBM has been extensively studied in medicine for wound healing, retinoprotection, and skin rejuvenation ( – ). PBM is performed with red to near-infrared (NIR) light, ranging in wavelength from 630 to 880 nm ( ). Lasers have traditionally been the sole light source of PBM, but the light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have recently been implemented, with several advantages. In addition to being less expensive, LEDs are non-coherent, allowing for a wider bandwidth and more diffuse light, and making them safer than coherent lasers (
The first professional option is commonly referred to as “in-office” whitening. This procedure is performed in a dental office. An in-office whitening treatment may include the use of a lamp or laser to enhance the effectiveness of the whitening gel by accelerating the action of the peroxide.
Power whitening uses light to help whiten your teeth. A blue-light or argon laser light are used by professionals to whiten your teeth. You will have to see the dentist to get your teeth perfectly whitened. After the procedure, you will have kit made by the professional that you will need to use to keep your teeth white. It takes a lot of work to maintain your new teeth with the new procedure, but you only need to do it once. If you have the time to set an appointment and sit in a chair for an hour or so, and do what you need to at home, it’s an excellent
While Visiting Cheshire Dental lab on March 31, I was astonished by how many steps and equipment it took to produce a final dental restoration. From the first step of disinfection to the final step of sand blasting the final product, the process of making a crown requires time and accurate procedures. During my observation, I was able to see the development of a crown and the process of creating a wax and metal coping. Our mentor, Joseph Feeley, was extremely informative and explained his techniques in an interesting way. The overall experience of my observation was fascinating, and will be a helpful tool when educating my future patients.
The first point I want to make is that the most effective DIY teeth whitening systems to whiten your teeth are the tooth whitening trays and combo teeth whitening kits. The reason is because they allow the DIY teeth whitening agent to stay on your teeth longer. Most times they are recommended to be inserted overnight. This helps your teeth enamel to get much brighter.
But the main gloss I could realize this is the fact that in the last year, the cost of changing to LEDs has dropped in imitation of a stone. There is a wide range of bulbs now comfortable for below ten bucks, and if you are

Patients today are in high demand for more than a healthy mouth and a perfect smile. Color and esthetics of the teeth are important topics for patients, as they influence self-esteem and professional relationships. Tooth discoloration may cause cosmetic and social problems for the patient. Therefor dentist and patients spend a large amount of money trying to improve the appearance of teeth. Tooth bleaching has become a very popular and common method for whitening discolored teeth in modern esthetic dentistry. Tooth bleaching refers to any procedure that does not use restorative materials and that changes the color and appearance of teeth that were discolored do to intrinsic and extrinsic staining (Karadas and Hatipoglu 2015). There are three
