What comes to mind when I say the word, “vacation”? According to Merriam Webster, vacation is “a period of time that a person spends away from home, school, or business usually in order to relax or travel”. My family (my mom, little brother, my grandmother, and I) take a vacation every summer to relax and have fun in the sun. Our destination and vacation spot this particular year, 2016, was the beautiful city of Panama City Beach, Florida. Little did I know that what could have or should have been a wonderful time for fun and relaxation with my family would easily turn into one of the worst experiences of my life. Now, you might be thinking sharks. Oh no, not sharks; to me this was far worse than meeting up with a shark. My vacation …show more content…
All of a sudden, I discovered a huge mound of sand in the water. I climbed up on it, and still the water came up to my knees. At that moment, I was king of the mountain of sand. Caden was playing in the water close to me, and he could barely stand up because the water was so deep where he was. Unsure why the water would be so uneven when we were so close together, my mom get worried and decided she would come out and join us. My mom turned and looked toward the beach to make sure that the warning flag was still green which means that it is safe to go in the water. Yes, it was still green. When I decided that I no longer wanted to be king of the sand mountain, I told Caden that we should head to the shore. Then, all of the sudden, without any kind of warning, it happened! I tried to head to the shore, and to my surprise, I could not move forward. My legs and hands were trying desperately to get me to the shore, but I just kept being pulled back by what I now know was an under tow or rip current. The harder I tried to go forward, the more I was pulled back. Caden also tried to get to the shore, but he was stuck and could not move forward wither. If he tried to go forward, he was pulled backward, too. My mom tried to help us. She could not do anything either and became stuck trying to help us. We were all three stuck and could not get back to shore no matter how hard we tried or what we
In the beautiful blue water I grab the rope and swim to the end of it. Then, the boat starts to move so I pull myself up. Now, I was standing on the Wakeboard gliding across the water. Then suddenly there were waves right in front of us, and we were headed straight for them and I said to myself, “ oh crap”. I still was standing when the waves crashed into my board, but the last wave turned my board sideways and my face hit the water very hard and my face felt like it was split apart, and my family said it looked like
My mind began clearing and I realized what the captain had just asked of me. I knew what I needed to do to try and save the ship. I don't what made me, but I bolted towards the masts. I’m not even sure how I made it there. The constant rocking of the ship threw me off balance with almost every step, but still I powered on.
I was sitting on a hot steamy white sand beach where the ocean was washing into the shore. Cinque Terre was a nice vacation spot to chill, relax, and go for a swim. Ninety-Five degree weather all day long, everyday. My family and I were staying in a small, no air-conditioning house with only 3 bedrooms. During our sleep, we forget to close the windows so little lizards come into our house and crawl up our walls. Cinque Terre is a great vacation spot for many family activities!
The weather was decent, but evening was approaching and it was getting chillier. A lay on my stomach and steady the tube as Noah gets on. We grab on to the handles in front of us and the tube is propelled forward by the boat. We started picking up speed, but it was still easy to stay on the tube. We started reaching speeds of up to forty miles per hour. It was amazing, the water flashed by on either side. We were still going straight but we were ramping off waves. The water splashed in my face every time we went airborne and landed again, but I didn’t care. And then we started turning. We turned right, which was the side I was on. We just let the tube go where it wanted to go, but that was a mistake. The tube came closer to the gigantic wave made by the boat engine. We reamped of the wave, and I knew I was a goner. I began sliding off the tube, and I thought I was gone. Finally my body was flung into the water, but my hands had a firm grip on the handle bars. Uncle ralph slowed down enough so I could pull myself up on the tube. With most of my body soaking wet, and slippery. When we turned again we turned left. This time we tried to lean against the wave. The tactic worked pretty good, but me hit the wave again. Noah was gone in an instant. I look back and he is floating some ways back
He hurried to the bow and opened up the anchor-locker and pulled out the anchor. He chucked the anchor. Somehow the knot that connected the rope to the anchor's chain came undone and the anchor went flying and sunk into the bay. We were both frozen like what happened didn't register in our heads. "What do we do now?" He said almost angry. I grabbed a pair of boots made for the marine environment out of a bag in the back of the boat as we got feet closer to the rocks. I put them on and held my feet off the side of the boat to keep the rocks from hitting the boat I realized it was worthless as I heard the scratching of fiberglass coming from the bottom of the boat. The rocks weren't just across the coastline, they were underwater. So I put my feet back into the boat and analyzed what we did and what needs to be done. Even though we were on the side of a bridge during 5 o'clock traffic we were still stranded. There were no boats on the water because everyone else was smart enough to not be on the water. My dad and I both got our phones out and started making calls. Then in about 2 minutes we saw a boat and tried to wave them down except they started waving back. They thought we were just being a friendly boater. Then I realized we had an air horn so I shook it and pointed it to the sky and pushed my finger down and it sounded. They turned
Still, I was only fifty feet from the beach, but that's when everything went wrong. Something underneath whacked my board and I flipped out --- it was a skate; a tiny harmless version of a stingray that is very ruthless. It slammed into my board and I fell down to the bottom of the ocean and slammed into the sand. I was paralyzed for what seemed like 10 minutes it was actually 30 seconds, but I didn't have the energy to swim to the surface. I was drowning. I was only still 6 years old and I thought I was going to die. I was fighting the urge to let out the air in my lungs
At this point I have been tubing for years, nothing was going to go wrong. Or would it? We got on the tube. The boat started. We were going kind of fast, not crazy though. It was about 4 minutes past, me and Dawson were still doing fine. They needed us to fall off, so other kids could
Ashton wanted to stay just a little longer because as the fishermen he is, he wanted to catch the biggest fish. He implied that we needed to go further down the canal into deeper water, so we paddled out to the spot he thought the monster fish would be. We came around a corner and abruptly intruded a fierce current that took us so quickly as if we were a piece of driftwood. I was shocked when my eyes drifted out to the horizon and saw the ocean waves crashing against each other about three hundred yards away. We immediately started to turn the canoe around and paddle as hard as we could against the current. I grabbed an oar and Ashton grabbed another, as he paddled the water from his oar hitting the forceful current drenched me. I was paddling with my eyes closed at this point as water ran down my face, it was as if the current was sucking every ounce of energy I had. We could not fight it anymore, we were getting sucked out and the ocean prevailed it's daunting complication approaching. Ashton tried to quickly decide as he was the older brother and I was waiting for an answer in anticipation. Everything was happening so fast I could not
I have always loved traveling and have been on many unforgettable adventures during my life so far. Although, when asked to talk about a specific vacation, my mind immediately draws back to my trip in April of 2015. My family and I planned to go to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. In the past, we had experienced the scorching, hot, Mexican sun but have never quite experienced on the Pacific Coast. Personally, I was ecstatic for this next vacation. I previously knew that Puerto Vallarta was known as “The Pearl of the Pacific” and to be completely honest that is what intrigued me the most. I spent countless months up to a year purchasing new clothes, accessories, and books to help make my trip even more enjoyable. So, generally speaking, the moment
We eventually got back to the dock and went inside to chill for a bit and get some food. We sat inside for about an hour and then decided to go back out because Jamie wanted to go tubing again. Once we got outside, Nan told us that she’d be out later and that for now we could take a ride on the Jet Ski. At this point I had only ridden on one once with Ariana driving. (Hint: She’s crazy and I almost died.) Jamie decided that she could be trusted to drive and so she and I went for a lil’ ride. Now, during this ride, we nearly tipped the jet ski. Key word here: “Nearly”. We survived but only just. After Jamie almost killed us, we went back to the dock. Once we got back, Ariana and Jamie decided to go out for a ride too. They rode for about 15 minutes before they came back and Jamie decided that all three of us should go for a ride. Now, you’d think that this would be a pretty sketch idea right? That is what I was thinking, but I went along with it because I thought it could be pretty
So my mom didn’t want to get on a roller coaster after.that which made me kind of sad and happy because we got to get on the other rides and so after got the iron riddler.we started exploring again and we got on a water ride based on the looney tunes.so when got and we had to catch a log to get on it.so me my brother, sister and dad got a log.it kind feels like we were on a river just the way it swayed and moved. as we moved it went slow at the begining it but all of a sudden is got fast and made a big splash.we all got wet then a head of a dragon started following the log and spray water.
Well after that mess was over we somehow still made it to the boat on time. Okay I’ll tell you this I don’t even know how it was possible but here we are boarding to boat just on
The only sound that filled my ears was my keyboard clicking as my fingers raced across it. I had been procrastinating from finishing this assignment all evening, but I knew I needed to get it done. The burning sunset was shining through the windows as I was finishing up. It was a peaceful silence, until I heard the soft whispers of my parents that ignited my sense of curiosity. I was concentrating hard; doing my best trying to make out the hushed words that were being spoken.
After you choose your destination the next thing you must do is reserve your airfare and hotel. This may be tough because there are many websites and travel agents that you can go through. I have found that it is cheaper and easier to go through Expedia.com. You can book your hotel and flight all together and pay one low price. I have also found that flying with Southwest Airlines is very cheap and they have many one way stops all across the country and for a cheap hotel that is very nice I recommend the Extended Stay America.
Most people that have gone to Orlando for holidays, ended with good memories. I’m not the exception. The resorts, the parks, and the restaurant make Orlando the best place to enjoy for the whole family. My last holiday with my nephew in The Wall Disney World Resort was the best time of our life for my family and me.
