My primary goal is to be a mentor, counselor, and advocate for the youth. Over the years I volunteered at a boys and girls club where I used leadership and motivation skills to communicate and assist my students with their needs. While volunteering I gained a sense of confidence, knowing that my words and actions aided in the children’s accomplishment. My work at the boys and girls club inspired me to pursue a career in the field of developmental psychology. Additionally, my curiosity piqued when attempting to comprehend my nephew’s diagnosis of ADHD and anti-social disorder. With a graduates degree in developmental psychology I’ll be able to use the knowledge I’ve acquired to inform and advise the youth as well as conduct research that will later assist in helping many nationwide. …show more content…
During my Methods of Psychology course, I attained practice on how to properly write a research paper. The purpose and requirements of each section of the paper was emphasized thoroughly to ensure that the material was mastered. The professor’s decision to provide constant feedback enabled me to fully grasp all concepts presented. Following my Methods of Psychology course, Junior Seminar taught me how to independently design and conduct a study. My independent study focused on student’s perceptions of and engagement with feedback dependent on the student’s classification. The process of conducting an experiment solely by myself was a learning experience, but with the assistance of my professors I found it to be equally beneficial. Procuring a deeper understanding of the subject was rewarding along with locating flaws in the researcher and discovering alternative solutions. Research collected on the study was presented on a poster board to interested students and
As an undergraduate student at the University of New Mexico I have become increasingly aware of the complex network problems that I face as a citizen of the world. I have also realized the progress and success that I enjoy in the same capacity as the frontiers of medicine, technology and communication continue to expand. My desire to participate in the resolution of those problems and in the further expansion of those frontiers had inspired me to seek a degree in biology and entrance into a School of Dentistry. I intend to successfully complete program of dentistry and further my specialization in the area of endodontics. Upon completion of my
According to the course syllabus we were introduced to the techniques of psychological research. This course was able to provide an understanding of how research is done, and what methods we can use to do so. By having a clear understanding of research and techniques used, it allows us to communicate effectively in regards to ideas behind the research process. In this paper, I will use myself as the case study to examine exactly what I learned about research.
It occurred to me that changing habits and developing new behavior skills is easier when one is young and less set within their ways. This desire to help originally led me to consider becoming a child psychiatrist. I figured that if the problem was nipped in the bud early, a person could live a fairly successful life. This belief made me want to work with children more than adults. I applied to many colleges, specifying in psychology. I had intentions to provide medications and therapy for children as a means to help them change their behaviors and to help them enjoy their life more, no

After earning my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Rutgers University, I have learned that I have a sincere passion for the Counseling field in particular. Growing up, I was never too sure what I wanted a career in. However, my mother always told me that whatever decision I make, it should benefit others as well, because ultimately the best success is when you know you have impacted the lives of others in a positive way. I have been very fortunate to have had the experience in working with children that range from ages 0-21. I have worked with young toddlers and infants in a Montessori school, as well as with children and teenagers that have been diagnosed with Autism and other disorders. Working in a diverse population has benefitted me in numerous ways and greatly shaped my interest in the counseling field.
I have always envisioned myself working with children and their families, but my experiences in college and beyond are what have shaped my enthusiasm for school psychology. At the University of Cincinnati I focused my education on families and children. Although my overall GPA falls just below the mean for your program, as my letters of recommendation indicate, I believe that my major GPA (3.89) and my experiences outside the classroom, give a better indication of my preparedness for graduate school. As a teaching assistant for a Childhood and Adolescence Development course for three semesters, I enjoyed the opportunity to develop a greater understanding of the crucial part development plays in all aspects of a child’s life, as well as the many factors that shape a child’s development.
Engaging with the study of the mind and its effect on human behaviour fascinates me. Why do we behave the way we do and how does our social surrounding affect us? My interest deepens into how the innate mind of a human builds up and exhibits certain types of behaviour. I am intrigued by how child behaviour differs from adult behaviour, and how children exhibit their behaviour in the environment aspiring me towards the role of a child psychologist. My vision is to work with children to understand their behaviour as well as improve it using the skills I aim to learn during my undergraduate course of psychology.
My passion is working with young children. I am interested in the field of child psychology. During the past four years, I have been dedicated to becoming a well-rounded student, immersing myself into my studies. Additionally, I have participated in numerous scholastic, athletic and community service projects in an effort to position myself to be successful in my college
I have always known that it is my passion to help people. This is why upon graduating I attended Mohawk College to pursue a career as an Educational Assistant. After receiving my diploma I began my career helping children with special needs. On a daily basis I have interactions with social workers and children who are involved with the Catholic Children’s Aid Society. I have had many eye opening experiences during my time spent with them. I have worked alongside our school’s Social Worker and have gained insight into mental health. Being an E.A. is rewarding, but I have come to the realization that I aspire to do more for children in need; I wish to become a social worker.
From a young age, I have always wanted to understand other people’s thoughts and feelings. As I have grown older, I have grown even more curious about not only understanding people, but learning how to help them. With this guiding me, my future career goal is to become an Occupational Therapist. Occupational Therapists work with a wide variety of people to help them overcome obstacles in their lives in order to achieve a better quality of life. I specifically hope to work with young children, adolescents, and teens who suffer from emotional, mental, or cognitive impairments. This is due to growing up in a family who fostered challenged children, having siblings with their own challenges, and having many young friends who could have benefitted
I intend to focus my experiences on children in the area of Psychiatry, as this is my ultimate career goal. Upon obtaining a state license and certification, I will continue my practice as a Certified Nurse
Since a young age, I have always felt a special connection with children and how they are affected by physical disabilities and psychological disturbances. In this instance, all I can do is volunteer at different organizations to achieve my life purpose. Helping children feel better has always been what makes me feel glad. Currently, I am in the second semester of my psychology major, which I plan to extend to the fullest. Becoming one of the most distinguished women in child psychology in my residential area, being able to help children overcome traumas and frustrations, would stand for my goal completed. My belief is that every bit of who you become as an adult is because of how you felt as a child. I want to be there for those low-income families with children with behavioral disorders, who are not able to help pay for the consultations. When I have enough funds necessary my plan is to establish my kids' organization focused on helping children with a mental
My interest in the human brain really began my junior year of high school when I took AP Psychology. I could not get enough of learning about how and why we function on a day to day basis, which can be looked at from multiple perspectives including from a biological angle. It amazed me then, and still amazes me today, that a complex network of neurons which fire electrochemical signals is the basis of every action we do on a day to day basis. This idea sparked my passion for learning more about the nervous system and how it functions, and is an interest which remains with me to this day. This same year of high school I also fell in love with Chemistry and Anatomy/Physiology, both of which applied in some capacity to AP Psychology as well. Ultimately
At age thirteen my family left Scotland and moved to the United States. Througout this transition I noticed a big culture difference. It got me curious to why people are all the same but when you live in a different place people act differently. About to graduate my senior year for highschool I discovered tere were answers to people behavior in my AP Psychology class. That is when I discovered my passion for psychology and have presued it ever since.
At the beginning of this subterm, I had a limited understanding of the proper research methods used within psychology. Despite having previously completed several psychology courses, two being upper level courses, there was still much I needed to learn pertaining to psychology research methods. While this research class has been on only an introductory
