The Spanish Settlements and the English colonies were different in many ways. They were different in politics, religion, and economic development. The Spanish settlements were under rule of the king. The people were not allowed to have independent governments. By having the people under the rule of a king they ended up having more profit for a period of time. The commerce was in a bad position because of the strict rule of the king. They were not making a decent amount of profit because the spanish king put a strict rule on trade. The New England colonies had a self government. They had three different types of colonies, Charter, proprietary, and Royal. With this rule the people had an opinion in their government but it often caused riots when the people were unsatisfied. With them being a self government they were uncontrolled and did not make the profits they should have. The Spanish settlements and the English colonies were very different in the aspects of politics. While the Spanish had a king to rule the English had the rule of a self government. The differences between the rules were that the Spanish were controlled and the English were uncontrolled. The English colonist had an opinion whereas the Spanish colonists did not. The Spanish made a good profit because of their king’s rules being as strict as they were.
