Despite the thousand of articles that have been written about them, the photographs of them that were published in the media at every holiday or celebration, the ads that were endorsed by them, and the films that were made, the real story and thoughts of the Quints will always be assumptions. They were used as commercial products by the government, and treated as a prank of nature. Throughout their whole lives, the Quints were under constant watch by doctors, the general public and most importantly each other. Some would say that the government displaying them how they did was discriminating towards them but others would think of it as learning opportunities. The Quints opinions were not always fully heard or payed attention to; because of this, assumptions about their lives would be thrown into the public like no tomorrow. Charmayne James was a shy girl that grew up in small town of Clayton, New Mexico. Beginning her way to being the Million Dollar Cowgirl she is today at the age of 3 riding from sun up to sun down. She started rodeo at a young age on a horse named Bardo. When Charmayne needed her next horse she looked to a young bay gelding that was used in her fathers feed lot. This bay gelding became Charmayne’s once in a life time horse. The pair was entered in the Rodeo Hall of Fame, and hold the record for most consecutive qualifications into the NFR for men or women.

She grew up in poverty, as one of 17 children born to former slaves. Traveling miles each way, she walked to school each day and did her best to share her newfound knowledge with her family. Bethune later received a scholarship to the Scotia Seminary, a school for girls in Concord, North Carolina. After graduating from the seminary in 1893, she went to the Dwight Moody's Institute for Home and Foreign Missions in Chicago. Bethune complete her studies there two years later.
