The aim of this essay is to discuss differences and similarities between division into the regions in the United States and the Russian Federation. It is known that both Russia and the USA are states-giants. Russia is the biggest country by its territory, and the USA is third largest state in the world. Thereby governance of such enormous territories requires complex state administration system. These two countries are federative governments. This means that they represent a uniformity of several state-territorial units which together form the state itself. Without doubt, everyone is familiar with the administrative division of the USA, which consists of fifty states . The Russian Federation is also divided into regions, territories, republics, and federal districts. So …show more content…
After that I described the scheme of territorial and administrative structure of them. Finally, I focused on the comparison of researched issue. So, the task of the essay was performed. To sum up all the said above, it is necessary to mark that both Russia and the USA have distinct and common features in their territorial division, which I marked above. In terms of their structure these countries are like the empires comprised of many nations. Also they both have central authority point – Moscow in the Russian Federation, Washington in the U.S. To add more, the territorial units in both countries differ from each other in cultural, ethnic, religious, economic terms. So, many Americans say that their country is “a geographic whole consisting of large regions shaped by history, geography, economics, dialects and even literature”. In my opinion, the similar thing can be said about Russia. But one should not forget that the political principles of territorial division in compared countries are not the
One reason Russia was difficult to govern was because of the size and diversity of it. As the country was so large, and covered almost 23 million square kilometres in 1900, this made it very difficult to govern as it made it difficult for the Tsar to have complete control of a place that was more than 20 square kilometres away. The empire stretched across two continents which meant that millions of the emperor’s subjects had to travel very far to get the other side
“American federalism was the embodiment of political tolerance and decentralization of – the expression of the liberal conviction that society can manage itself and needs no central plan,” said Llewellyn H. Rockwell. Federalism is the most important principle because it helps build a better foundation for a better government while also creating a division of powers. In this essay, I will be explaining what federalism is, how this newer type of government ideal has been incorporated into the U.S. and the advantages and disadvantages of federalism in the U.S. government.
A comparison between the U.S. constitution and Russian constitution is interesting due to the fact that America is often regarded (at least from the view of most Americans) as the pinnacle of freedom and democracy. The Russian Federation on the other hand has a much more complex image. The Russian Federation was formerly a country known as the Soviet Union, which was the pinnacle of communism throughout the 1900’s. Communism is a polar governmental structure compared to the U.S. The Russian Federation is today classified as a democracy, however, there are still remnants of the communist structure seen among leaders as a result of the way that the constitution is constructed.
To define the terminology of federalism to a simplistic way is the sharing of sovereignty between the national government and the local government. It is often described as the dual sovereignty of governments between the national and the local to exert power in the political system. In the US it is often been justified as one of the first to introduce federalism by the ‘founding fathers’ which were developed in order to escape from the overpowered central government. However, federalism in the United States is hitherto uncertain where the power lies in the contemporary political system. In this essay I will outline and explain how power relationship alternates between states and federal government. Moreover I will also discuss my
One country is comparable to the United States of America in terms of world power and prominence. Russia makes their name known beginning in World War 2 (WW2), later in the Korean War, Cold War, and today’s proxy war in the Syria. Russia’s culture, environment, politics, military, and economy do not just make Russia a regional powerhouse, but slowly becoming a region of influential power to surrounding countries with the end state of a global superpower. All the factors that make Russia the powerhouse that it is slowly becoming, highlights the impressive trend that supersedes the previous Soviet Union and past leaders.
The debate over federalism is still present, and will endure. Parts of todays’ version of cooperative federalism will surely be replaced by another theory of intergovernmental relations. In addition, the balance of power between the national and the state governments will continue to be settled by political means, and not by theory. The relationships of the federal system, political ideology, and freedom, is no longer as simple as it appeared; recently as 50 years ago.
The American Constitutions set the four basic principles, which are separation of powers, Federalism, doctrine of supremacy of constitution, equality for all citizens to prevent tyranny. 1. Separation of Powers The state power is separated into three branches: executive, legislative and judicial. Each branch remains independent.
Through the USSR rule, a great number of imperial autocracy aspects of its forms of governance, social and economic reforms were reproduced such as central control and nationalism policies, for example, Russification. However, there is a debate if Stalinism was a continuation of Tsarist autocracy due to differences between two regimes as the Bolshevik government categorically refused to be defined as an empire; contrastingly, its leaders saw imperialism as the policy adopted in capitalist states which have been viewed as competitors and enemies which bring a contradictory argument. This essay will argue that although in theory, the differences between Imperialism and Communism were colossal, a leading argument about Russia, famously defended
In the United States of America as a citizen of the Nation we have rights and privilege, which protect us from the government. For that reason, American citizens have the responsibilities of respect and exercise our civil rights. Our Nation and the WA State both have laws that protect our rights further our state constitution supports freedom and rights. On account of, I will talk over the specific similarities and differences between rights and responsibilities as a citizen of WA State and the United States of America. For instance, the specific rights and responsibilities I would like to discuss are: Freedom of Speech, Voting Rights, and Life, Liberty and Property.
Ronald Watts provided an extensive discussion that focused on comparative analysis in Federal System. Different spectrum of federal political systems was seen aiming to reconcile social diversities and allowing self-determination applicable on particular circumstances of each case. Variations with contemporary federations were recognized as a way of mediating different citizens’ preferences with a vision to serve the desires of its people. Federal Government should address the resolving issues in Federal system. The author evaluated the different distribution of powers, executives and legislature in federations as well as the degree of centralization and non- centralization. Watts focused on the comparative study of federal political systems.
Federalism is the system of government in which power is divided by constitution between central and regional government. “Federalism is a political system in which regional governments share power with the national government… A system in which central and regional governments share sovereignty” (Bond, pgs. 74, 76) There are three different political systems but scholars have come to the conclusion that in a way federalism is the best way of government. As the other political systems, Federalism has its pros and cons. Some of its advantages are: dispersal of power, Accommodation of diverse interests and policy experimentation. (Bond pgs. 78, 79) Dispersal of power: by dispersing the power central government can be kept away from abusing its power, that way tyranny can be prevented. If the entire power was given only to central government only a few would be in control of the entire nation leading it only in a
The definition of federalism has changed throughout the years because there have been several types of federalism in the United States, for instance, dual federalism, cooperative federalism, and new federalism. However, according to James Q. Wilson and John DiIulio, Jr. the term, federalism can be defined as a way of sharing power, between the national government and the states government. This essay will firstly, examine the origins of federalism and the results of the American system of shared/divided powers. Secondly, it will look at the differences between the American presidential system and the British parliamentary
Russia is a huge landmass and covers a vast amount of the earth’s surface area. Being so large, Russia contains a huge variety of different geographical features. There are several mountains, rivers, bodies of water, climate zones, and population centers in Russia. Most of the development in Russia is located in its core area, east of the Ural Mountains. There are several countries around Russia that used to be parts of a larger union called The Union of Soviet Socialists Republics, however, in 1991, the USSR broke apart into several other independent states. The new states that were formed are: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Estonia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and
Russia, officially known as the Russian Federation, has a total area of 17,098,242 sq km (“The World Factbook”) and is the largest country in the world. It is about 1.8 times the size of the United States (“The World Factbook”). Most of Russia is either large stretches of plains or areas with a lot of forests and mountains, with the exception of the Siberian Tundra. It is difficult to perfectly describe Russia’s climate because of it’s large size. However, in general, the country only has two seasons, summer and winter. In the summer they have very warm, continental weather and they have very harsh winters with a lot of snow. Russia is plentiful in natural resources. They are particularly
