There is a lot of Disrespect in Carolina High. Both from students and teachers. Sometimes it weighs down on them from their personal life, sometimes it’s because of the way they were raised, trying to fit in, feeling defensive, or even provoking a fight. This can cause violence, teacher parent conflict, and bullying. All of which can lead to suicide, depression, and anxiety. It can affect the students’ education and social ability. The first reason I want to touch is how disrespect came to be. In the bible they say how Adam and Eve disobeyed God because they didn’t Respect his orders. Cain killed Abel because he didn’t respect his brother's life. As you can see we all come from a long line of disrespect and in a lot of cases disrespectfulness
When Mr. Clark originally taught at Eastside High School, the culture seemed very competitive and full of high standards. The students seemed very eager to learn and at a pretty high level for their age. Twenty years later, the culture flips dramatically. The school quickly goes from pristine to a graffiti-infested playground. The teachers are the prey and the students (mainly the ‘hoodlums’) pretty much do as they please. Education is a small goal for any of the students, and the students that do want to do well fear those “hoodlums.” Mr. Clark identifies this immediately when returning to Eastside High. During his first assembly, Mr. Clark let the entire school know that he was the HNIC. He gathered up all the trouble makers and sent them home, expelling them from school. Most were drug dealers, 5th year students, or drug abusers that were dulling the spark of the other students.
I agree with Botstein’s evaluations; the typical school environment is damaging generations of teenagers. His ideas show an alternative to the school program that is currently producing nothing but generations of unhappy and unmotivated children. Being motivated to take a stand on the American education system after of the outrageous shootings at Columbine High School of Littleton, Colorado in 1999, Botstein connected the causes to the effect of students who were interacting with each other in school environments. Others blame teachers' methods, and the subjects that are being taught – stating that the education systems are creating simple minded children. However, no one is teaching kids the harmful effects they can have on one another. These cliques that form in schools cause the outsider, the loner, to act out in outbreaks, such as in Columbine. “Artificial Intensity,” as Botstein states it, is highly implied on teens. It pressures the students to be perfect; some put too much stress on themselves, triggering them to act on extremes.
Since the establishment of public education in the United States, schools have provided a sense of security and belonging to their students. Although sitting through lectures and doing homework may not be the most exciting thing in the world, students will always have a lunch to eat, a roof over their head, and a supportive teacher or counselor that they can talk to. Despite the “safe” environment and presence of authoritative figures on school campuses, trouble always finds a way to break out. Simple misbehaving and occasional fights are a common occurrence on most school campuses, however a new breed of troublesome and violent students has hatched. The
Summit Charter Collegiate Academy is a dependent charter school under the Burton School District, and as you can tell by the name, it is a college prep school. SCCA is a middle school and high school campus serving students from 6-12th grade. It is also an International Baccalaureate world school, which is a school that has a philosophy of having a committed, challenging, and international education for students. The Burton School District and the administration of SCCA expect the high schoolers to always gain prosperity and only focus on their grades and college. It doesn’t sound bad at all to know that they expect great things from their students, but it has gotten to the point where they are expecting too much. High school is supposed to be the best four years in someones life, so how on Earth can a student from SCCA have any fun and make any
If there’s no respect for one another in a group, the group will fall apart. Respect holds any group together because respect is needed to make any group agreements. Agreements are “crucial” to the “group's” effectiveness according to Socrates.( Source A) This can also be visualized in Jacques David’s painting.( Source B) Disrespecting anyone can cause them to not agree
A new high school called Apex Friendship was just built in Apex, North Carolina. The new high school is only open to freshman and sophomores of the 2015-16 school year. In the booming town of Apex people come from all over to take advantage of its growing economy and its welcoming community and also the great reputation of the schools. Apex Friendship had many critiques and people with many expectations of what this school was to become. I was thinking this could either be very, very, bad or one of the best experiences of my life. Many people thought it would be a great school, and the students that would graduate from the school would be a great representation of the community from where they went to school at. Others, mainly the students
Some people today feel that they are isolated from their own community. In Oak Park, Illinois, third through eighth graders took a survey. Roughly 42% of them said they felt excluded or embarrassed socially by their classmates. Another 32% stated that they were bullied by their piers. With all these emotions going through them at such a young and developing age, it can cause serious damage with the way the kids and young teens look at life. With them feeling removed from their school community and friend groups, they may act out in violent ways against those who have made them feel this way. For example, there have been many stories in the news regarding students who bring weapons to school with the intent of harming others. Another result
Long before Carver High School was built in 1948, students attended high school in the southern section of the county at the Virginia State High School and The Virginia Normal and Industrial Institute. Later they attended D. Webster Davis High School, also on the campus of Virginia State College. On the northern end of the county students attended Hickory Hill High School, which became Hickory Hill Elementary School after opening Carver High. 1948 until 1970, one high school served Chesterfield community of African-American students. The school named for George Washington Carver, re known American scientist, and was the only school in Chesterfield County until 1995 named for an African American. After the consolidation of segregated D. Webster Davis and Hickory Hill High School, students often had to leave home as early as 5:00 a.m. and walk miles to reach a bus line that would deliver them to school by 9:00 a.m. The school is independent it’s only location. My field instructor had once told that the school isn’t known very well. Individuals that have heard of the school, know that it is an alternative school and automatically thinks that the school is filled with insubordinate students. There are six departments at the school and they are English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Career and Technical Education (CTE), and Student Support Services such as CIS, the school nurse, school counselor, school social worker, and
Monroe High School is a good school but some of the students act as if they are trying to keep the school’s bad reputation rather than get rid of it. Dozens of Monroe High School students are called each week to make up hours in academic development because the students don’t care or value their education. Students are also called to make up hours because of attendance and so many days missed. These are the students that people from other schools look at to depict a perspective of Monroe High. Even with all the new students getting honor roll, there are still students that will not help change how Monroe will be viewed by others who don’t attend the school. This is why Monroe High School is still a low performing school. This requires the school to do extra to show the board of education we are trying to improve our scores. The students that do care about their education are canceled out by students that are just there to get their high school diploma so they can get get a job that will only be enough to pay their bills. The growth and progression of Monroe High has increased at a steady rate the past couple of years but the mindset of the students must change to change the whole
My high school days are frustrating to say the least. In my classes, laughter and contentment, and sometimes boredom fill my mind and body; however, walking in the halls is a different story. Filled with inconsiderate students, my mind and body fill with anger when I see the most aggravating act that the school holds. (Exaggeration)
Why is the school that I graduated from last year becoming worse each year? Where did this all start from? What are our teachers doing to stop or help these kids from acting the way they do? Are the upperclassmen preventing or encouraging the actions these kids make? Out of all the schools in the district, why did it have to be EHS? Is there any way to fix it? Answering these questions and focusing on the matter might help improve it. EHS has successfully graduated thousands of graduates. In recent years, however, a number of troubling trends, which I will explain, have been demonstrated. These include fighting for fun, joining a gang, weed, and uncaring teachers.
High school is a combat zone. Perhaps incognito, high school is vile in all ways, shapes, and forms. High school is destruction of humanity. From blondes to redheads, and albinos to bronzed beauties, there is no fair play. Manipulation, deceit, lies, and forbidding grades are the fate of these entire helpless quarry. After many devastating centuries, mankind has learned to adapt to this revolution. Fighting for freedom and molding to the staggering state of affairs, students have mastered separation brilliance and competence, creating differences with style, interests, and appetites. One thing that will never change… there is no escaping these dreadful high school cliques!
hroughout a person’s years of schooling across the Illinois public school system, they will have met a large share of characters that really push their buttons. There is just some classmates they will come across and wonder, “What is wrong with you?”. Then they will continue on their way, wondering when the next imbecile will pass them by. Nevertheless, the three most annoying types of students are the hallway cloggers, the questioners, and the supply thieves.
If you want respect, you first have to give it. You can't treat people any type of way and expect to be treated like royalty. People treat you as you treat them on a daily basis .So if you want to be respected , you have to remain respectful at all times. The fourth commandment is do not steal.
Ansel Adams describes a beautiful saying to show respect. He refers respect as to anything that’s living around us. Adams not only shows his way of respect by life or living, but also by death. Each and everyone of us uses respect within our lives. Caring, respect for all, hate, not happy or cheerful, or giving more than you have to offer to others are just five small kinds of respect. Caring, respect for all, and giving more than you have to others is a kinder form of respect that people show. Respect is also shown as hate and not happy. Getting the right form of respect down is a difficult challenge. Society often has to use or show hate just to get the idea of respect out of them so others can understand. “There are many different kinds
