Recently in the news, President Donald Trump’s immigration ban has been one of the most criticized things. Trump’s executive action temporarily bans entry to the United States from seven nations and temporarily suspends the Department of Homeland Security’s refugee program. Trump’s order suspended visa entries into America for ninety days for individuals from Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, and Iran (Marquis, 2017). His list can grow since he instructed his secretary of state and DHS secretary to seek out additional information from other foreign governments. If their information does not meet the new guidelines issued by the DHS and the director of national intelligence, those other countries can be added to the list. The order, …show more content…
Five points can be made by Faulks, to support this argument but only highlighted are the ones that explain President Trump’s immigration order. In the state-centric society, the state possesses a number of resources of power, particularly those relating to its surveillance capabilities over its citizens, which gives it the capacity to penetrate and influence civil society. The state cannot be understood in isolation, but exists within a states system (Faulks, 2000). In the context of mutual suspicion between states, the importance of the state’s military capacity is crucial. The state is not just there as a mediator between the interests of the population, or as an economic manager, but as a symbol and defender of the ‘imagined community’ that forms the dominant cultural identity of any particular state-civil society relationship (Faulks, 2000). This close relationship between the state and nationalism gives the state an invaluable communicative power to unify disparate elements of civil society, particularly in times of war or during other crises that might face the state (Faulks, 2000). These points all help to further explain President Trump’s immigration order better by using the lenses of someone with a state-centric …show more content…
What class are immigrants mostly a part of? The working class. Who is President Trump’s immigration order affecting? Immigrants who make up the working class. President Trump is a part of the elite ruling class and his immigration order is protecting his interests. Even though it may look like he is trying to protect everyone in the United States, that is not the case. He is looking out for himself and every other person that makes up the elite ruling class. They want to make sure their elite ruling class stays in power and the predominately working class stays out of
In attempts to protect the United States from foreign terrorists, President Trump has banned seven different countries from any access into the country for ninety days. The seven countries included in the Travel Ban are Iraq, Syria, Iran, Sudan, Libya, Somalia, and Yemen (Jackson). As for Syria, Trump has placed a ban that has an undetermined length of time. Another aspect of the ban is, “The order also introduces a cap of 50,000 refugees to be accepted in 2017, against a limit of 110,000 set by former President Barack Obama” (BBC). This order not only drastically affects the amount of immigrants entering the country, but also the number of refugees.
A wide variety of people were affected by President Trump’s initial order, which would bar for 90 days, people from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States: Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen. It also bans all refugees for 120 days, and Syrian refugees indefinitely. After a review of the screening process, the order says officials may give recommendations for indefinite bans. Other countries may be added to the list as well.
On January 27th, 2017, president Trump signed an executive order dealing with immigration. The order took effect immediately and sparked anger and confusion across the nation. Dozens of international travelers were detained at airports across the country. Most of those detained were simply caught up in a government communication limbo. The order placed a temporary moratorium on immigration from seven countries Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen.
When we see outside today, you will see the different races and people. Well now some of those population might decrease, because of the new ban Donald J. Trump issued. He sighed the ban saying that citizens of North Korea, Chad, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, Venezuela and Yemen are limiting entry to the U.S. Even though Iraqi citizens don’t have the same restrictions they are slowing their entry. President Trump states that this will be a great deal in for the safety of America and will help reduce the inconvenience for U.S. when applying citizenships. Later after the ban was officially decided he tweeted,"Making America Safe is my number one priority. We will not admit those into our country we cannot safely vet." When later asked homeland
Immigration issues have become a widely talked issue among people, since Paris was attacked in November 2015 by terrorists who migrated to France from Syria as refugees (Gallagher, 2015). In America where the Presidential Election is going to be held, people eagerly care about how the presidential candidates stand for immigration issue, because immigrants can seriously affect people’s daily lives: immigrants bring America lots of advantages both economically and culturally; however, immigrants do have drawbacks: illegal immigrants shared most of the welfare from programs provided by government, like “food stamps and Medicaid” (Meyer, 2015). All the presidential candidates have clear positions for immigration issue, and Donald Trump – the most popular and eye-catching candidate – is not an exception. As a conservative right-wing Republican, Donald Trump wishes to reduce, or even stop people migrating to America.
Now, Trump has seen the threat of terrorists coming into America under the guise of immigrants looking for work or refugees looking for safety and has decided that, unfortunately, we would have to close of immigration and refuse refugees from the 7 countries that the Obama administration deemed as being connected to terrorism. The ban will last only for 90 days, as the vetting process is refined to keep out threats to the safety of American citizens.
President Trump's executive order " Muslim Ban" blocking people of Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Libya, Yemen, and Somalia from coming to the U.S. Trump’s ideology is to protect the American people from Muslim terrorist attacks to make America safe again. Trump and his team may not be aware that by combining Muslims and terrorists; they spreading the suspicion, fear and consequently rising Islamophobia and racism. The ban disrupting the personal and professional lives of millions of immigrants who have been settled their life in America with the hope of freedom and fortune. Unfortunately, mainstream media have been controlling the flow of information, brainwashing and manipulating people, spreading misrepresentations and fears about Muslim, and
After only 4 days of presiding in office, Trump sent out an executive order suspending any entry of people from seven countries: Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan, Yemen, and Somalia. These seven countries are Muslim-majority countries that have done nothing wrong now or at the time that Trump put the executive order into motion. This is just one example that puts our president’s
population taking over the American population. In fact this issue of having someone involved in politics disagree with the laws of immigration and the immigration system is nothing new. The principal concerns expressed by those opposed to immigration are the perceived effects economic costs (job competition and burdens on The principal concerns expressed by those opposed to immigration are the perceived effects economic costs (job competition and burdens on education and social services); negative environmental impact from accelerated population growth; increased crime rates, decreased protection against infectious diseases and, in some cases national. For many centuries now immigration has been important to the key developments of North American countries. From the English settlers from the original 13 colonies, to the French who settled into what is now modern day Canada, even the Irish and German settlers during the Industrial revolution, all the way to Mexicans trying to find work in the booming U.S. economy after the second world war, immigrants have always flocked to America in search of a better life. The Immigration issues doesn’t just stop there either, even in today’s time many refugees from the middle east are fleeing Islamic terrorist groups only to find their rights and safety in America threatened as well. With the recent election of Donald Trump and the promises he has
On January 27, 2017, Trump passed a law banning immigrants and citizens from seven countries. The countries include Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, nations composed of a Muslim majority. Many people believe Trump’s Muslim country ban was not sufficient in performing its rightful task of keeping terrorists out of the country. Trump’s ban was not necessary due to the problem the situation causes, such as its sudden implication, deterioration of presidential image, and overall effectiveness of the ban.
Donald Trump tried to put in place a travel ban but it is not very effective. The travel ban is only for six countries. Those countries are Syria, Libya, Iran, Yemen, Chad, and Somalia. The travel ban is applied to them because they are considered the major Muslim majority. That is not very effective because Muslims and terrorist do not only live in those 6 countries.
Donald Trump executive order on Immigrants being deported strikes fear across the U.S. Millions of Undocumented are scared about what could happen if they are caught. Some immigrants took the chance and moved back to their country. The ones that stayed fear if they do get caught, what would happen to their family and everything that they worked hard for.
Two U.S. federal judges have denied President Donald Trump`s new executive order about people coming from other countries to live in America for the time being. The new order would have kept all refugees from entering the US for 120 days. It additionally gave people coming from Iran, Libya, Sudan, Syria and Yemen have a 90-day delay from entering the states. Due to the fact that, 90 percent of the citizens of the countries named are muslim, some US citizens have called Trumps order a muslim ban.
President Trump has passed several executive orders pertaining to travel bans, specifically from Muslim majority countries. Although the Courts have blocked both of these travel ban executive orders, President Trump is now asking his Secretary of State to begin having U.S. embassies to more strongly scrutinize travel visas (Shear). However, President Trump refuses to put all countries under this strict scrutiny, 38 countries still have a visa waiver when entering the United States; yet none of these countries from the original travel ban have the ability to waive their visa (Shear). President Trump is now using his executive power to get interviews to “strongly scrutinize” visa applicants. After declaring strict scrutiny of these applicants, it is clear that this will be
