Another way that Dr. Dre had innovated the music industry was his career as a record producer and talent manager. To start with, Dr. Dre began this portion of his career by founding Death Row Records, a hip-hop label that was “...co-founded in 1991 by controversial music mogul Marion “Suge” Knight” (Fisher). During that time, the duo signed some artists into their company and soon they “...began churning out multiplatinum hits, starting with Dr. Dre's ‘The Chronic’ and later his protégé Snoop Dogg's ‘Doggystyle’” (Fisher). As a direct consequence of the successes of these music releases, hip-hop and rap music had become more popular in America than before; many young people listened to this genre more often and became very influenced by such recordings. One of these artists signed to Aftermath was Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers. Dr. Dre had discovered Eminem in the late 90s while listening to a demo tape sent by him (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wgztAU7p-WM). After listening to the demo, Dr. Dre was so impressed that he met this aspiring rapper in Los Angeles at Dre’s home. Afterwards, the two did a recording session “...in his home studio, where the white wordsman came up with his sobriquet Slim Shady, the song "Role Model" and two others that ended up on his first album” (Rush). This record was very successful that it “reached number two on the Billboard 200 and received general acclaim from critics...”, which gave Aftermath Records huge potential for success as a recording label (Walters). This success gave Dr. Dre a chance to sign multiple recording artists into Aftermath Records, “...such as Busta Rhymes, Eve (twice), Rakim and The Game” among others, such as Kendrick Lamar, who had much success in the hip-hop industry
