The novel, Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, begins with Mr. Utterson, a dependable lawyer, and Enfield, a friend, taking their usual walk. The two do not wish to gossip; however, Enfield has a story to tell about a horrific assault. The story illustrates of a menacing man named Mr. Hyde who treads on a young girl and vanishes only to come back with a check written by a man regarded well in society. Nevertheless, they concur to not speak about the occurrence any more. Coincidentally, Mr. Utterson has a customer, Dr. Jekyll, who is moving his possession to this mysterious Mr. Hyde. Mr. Utterson is then notified by the police believing Mr. Hyde was the prime suspect of the murder. When they appear at the killer’s building he was living at, they discover he has disappeared. Wanting answers, the lawyer decides to pay another visit to Dr. Jekyll, who states that he cut off all contact with the man. Dr. Jekyll had a merely note from Mr. Hyde expressing regret and saying farewell. However, it is pointed out that the handwriting of Mr. Hyde looks strikingly similar to Dr. Jekyll’s. After months of no significant events, Lanyon dies and writes a letter to Mr. Utterson explaining not to open the letter until Dr. Jekyll dies. One day while Enfield and the lawyer were on their annual walk, they discover Dr. Jekyll through the window of his laboratory, but he quickly shuts the window and vanishes. The lawyer decided to break into Dr. Jekyll’s building, and he found Mr. Hyde’s body in the doctor’s cloths. There was also a letter written by Jekyll stating he would give an explanation to what occurred. Jekyll described how he uncovered a way to convert himself into creature who had no conscience with the use of a potion. However, Dr. Jekyll began changing into Mr. Hyde without wishing to do so. He attempted trying to stop the transformations but nothing worked, for he started to change more regularly.
