On November 16, 2016 at 7:30am I arrived at John H. Kinzie Elementary School to observe Mrs. K’s second grade class. The data collected took about 30 minutes during the language arts lesson. Given the fact that this is a second grade class students stay in the same classroom with the same teacher during core subjects (math, language arts, math, science and social studies). The only time they switch classrooms is during Art, Music and Gym. This observation took place during language arts subject and the lesson of the day was possessive and plural nouns. The class consists of a total of 28 students out of those students there are 15 female students and 13 male students. Mrs. K’s classroom is in the first floor of the school building and the …show more content…
Just next to the erasable board there is calendar that displays the student’s birthdays. On the south end of the the classroom a smart board is available for the classroom. Next to the smart board there is another erasable board that the teacher writes down a list of skills that the students have and will learn for each week. My favorite part about the classroom was the reading section of the classroom and the library of books available to the students. The south-end length of the classroom has book cases filled with a variety of books. The books are organized by subjects ranging from popular chapter books such as the Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants to science and holiday themed books. The reading area has a a colorful round rug and a rocking chair for the teacher to sit in and read to her students. Next to the reading section there is a round table that the teacher has available for students to come sit at when they need additional help. Furthermore when entering the classroom the west side of the classroom is filled with large windows with beige roller shades. The teacher made use of these shades by taping large easel pads onto the shades. These large easel pad are used for visual learning to refer back to when they are working on math, reading, and language
I did my observations in a first grade classroom at R. L Brown Elementary school. My supervising teacher had strict guidelines about the lesson that she was allowing me to teach. Because I was doing my observation so close to the end of the year, I could only teach during the science block. She allowed my to choose between two standards. The standard I choose was LAFS.1.RI.3.9 Id( Identify basic similarities in and differences between two texts on the same).I spent a lot of time doing my lesson plan called the and different, and I tried to plan for everything possible. To be honest my lesson went okay. It was the little things that caused the most problems. I learned that actual teaching is a complex profession. There are always a million
1. Describe the organization and physical setting of the classrooms you observed. Pay particular attention to safety and accessibility, the physical arrangement of the room, the classroom environment and appearance (Danielson 2e):
I observed a sixth grade classroom (eleven to twelve years of age) at a middle school in Ringgold, Georgia. The classroom seemed to be fairly even in regards to how many children of each sex were in the classroom. The majority of the students were white with a few african american and hispanic children among the mix. The sixth grade classes did not have enough employees to only teach one subject therefore, the teacher that I observed taught language arts and mathematics. The first thing you notice when you walk into the classroom is the mathematical shapes all along the upper wall like a wallpaper border. These shapes were projects from her students in the years before. The next thing that you’ll notice is the way the desks were set up. They were set up in three separate groups. One group of around twelve desks faced the
TK is a male child 3 years old of average size to the other students in the classroom. He attends the McGill Child Development Center. TK’s hair is brown and is neatly combed to one side of his head. His eyes are of a dark color. TK was participating in circle time with the other children in the classroom. He was taking turns with the other children when asked different questions from the teacher. This show TK’s is social skills are developing nicely as he is able to take directions from his teacher and sit quietly while others talk while sitting in a group. He was able to focus on the activity for about 10 minutes before becoming restless.
Journal one of the Westminster College class EDU 562 Field Experience was related to observation and participation with a first grade classroom, on Monday, January 4, 2016. Upon arrival the class teacher provided instructions to assist in the set up of the classroom January calendar, make a graph of the lunch choices, and to pass out morning work for the students to complete as they arrived in the classroom. At 8:30 a.m. the teacher welcomed most of the students with excitement as they entered the room. She informed the students in detail and repeated the routine and morning arrival instructions. Once everyone arrived, the teacher rang a bell which symbolized it
In this lab experience I was observing eighteen to nineteen first grade students at Jefferson Elementary. Most of the observations take place in the classroom. I observe at different times of the day, so that I can experience different areas of study. I have observed this class with their regular teacher, two substitutes and the reading coach, as well as a portion of the class with two special activity teachers.
Ms. Penn’s Kindergarten class consisted of 9 boys and 7 girls. This was the last hour of the instructional day, and as I walked in I noticed that the students were already working in centers in groups of 3-4. This class was a little noisy and unorganized as compared to other kindergarten classrooms I have observed so far at Krahn elementary. The students seemed to be enjoying their time in centers and were eager to pack-up after cleaning up in the end since it was close to dismissal.
Observations at Columbia High School were collected in the Student Services department for 9th and 10th graders in the Huntsville City Schools (HCS) district. Students enrolled in this self-contained, special needs unit are supported by a curriculum design with prevocational transition targets. These exceptional learners work toward benchmark academic, behavioral, and vocational skills development.
I interviewed Dr. Johnson who is an administrator at AW Brown Fellowship Charter School. We discussed a conflict she encountered with the pre-K 3 teacher and her teacher assistant (TA). The pre-K 3 teacher was a returning teacher. She had done an outstanding job with the 3 year olds the previous year. Everyone was impressed on how well she had done being a first year teaching. The TA was a new hire, her first year teaching.
The classrooms are separated by shelves and a small plastic door. Each small room is divided into different activity sections. The room I observed was the smallest of the four. It was divided into two sections. In the first section was composed of a table surrounded by eight chairs. Around the table there were shelves with toys and learning materials. Some of the learning material that could be found on the shelves were construction blocks, simple puzzles, and writing materials. The second section is covered by a carpet. Two of the walls are made of shelves and a third wall is covered by a board. In the shelves you can find books, music instruments and toys. The board is covered by the letters of the alphabet and corresponding
At the end of the lesson Students are going to be able to describe where they live using the verb "vivir" and "tener" in Spanish. During unit two, they been using the these verbs and in the beginning of the lesson they answer the "Do NOw" activity where I asked then: ?Donde tu vives? They answer the question in Spanish and used the verb in the correct tense. After that, they answer a listening question where they had to identify the part of the house using the vocabulary proposed at the beginning of the lesson. Finally, they started a project where they had to create a Floor plan and describe their ideal house. For this activity, they have to use the verb "tener" in present tense. The completion of these activities ensures the acquisition of the new vocabulary and the verbs tense. It is important to mention, that this lesson will continue next week because students need more time to complete their DOL activity.
Conducting classroom observations are very important to the prospective teacher. Observing helps show how experienced teachers manage their classroom. For this observation it was important to notice how the classroom was arranged, how the teacher interacted with the students, the teacher’s management style, and interview the teacher.
The classrooms are set up as a room per grade level. In each classroom, there are basic classroom materials: tables and chairs as well as various manipulatives that can be used in the lessons. At each of the tables is a box full of different manipulatives for the tutors to use in various activities. Some of the materials in the boxes change each week as the boxes move from table to table; so each tutor must be sure to complete the activity with the new information for that week.
Ms. Lydicks class is design around the learning stations they do once a day. Each station is designed to help the student with writing, vocabulary, reading, fluency in reading, and etc. At the top of the room, a rug is used for times when she need to read something to them or going over lessons. Also at the back of the room she uses a chart and clothes
Classroom observation is a main approach of teaching research. Scholars or researchers use video to record the real whole class and observe the teachers and students’ actions, words and the efficiency in the class. Though the observation, they analyze what approach is more suitable. This paper will select video 5 and video 3 as the material to do the classroom observation. Different aspects such as teachers’ responds, questions, instructions notes and students’ behavior will be addressed to analyze the efficacy of this class.
