Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a great man who is still respected and honored by all Americans. Dr. King is admired today, due to his leadership and Charisma skills, as well as his non-violence approach to solving problems. However, on Monday the 18, of January 2016, Americans all over the United States celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. On the third of January each year this day is set aside for the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, (Carson, 1987). Government agencies In the United States are closed in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Federal Holiday. Martin Luther King Jr National Monument in Washington D.C. Also, the MLK Memorial site have walls that are engraved with fourteen quotations from Dr. Kings well- known quotes (Bruyneel, 2014). The kids and I explored and read some of his quotes as we explored the Memorial. Furthermore, Dr. King is the first African- American to receive such a high honor and first major memorial that does not memorialize a war or a President of the U. S (Bruyneel, 2014). Moreover, literature is being provided in textbooks by theologians, political scientists, and historians on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr (Carson, 1987). Also, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr is known as a Civil Rights leader, which stood behind President Johnson as he signed the Civil Rights Bill in 1964 (Columbia Southern University (CSU) n.d.). King is remembered because of the Montgomery bus boycott, and Rosa Parks being arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white person, she was a part of the bus boycott as well (Faragher, Buhle, Czitrom, & Armitage, 2009). Dr. King led the boycott in Montgomery bus system that lasted over a year (Faragher et al., 2009). Due to the boycott, White and African Americans in 2016, can sit together and ride the buses together without any hostility or violence. Several movement activists today view Dr. King as one of the most conspicuous among some of the most exceptional movement tacticians, ideologues, and strategists, influential leaders in the United States (Carson, 1987). In addition, Dr. King is known as a Civil Rights leader, which stood behind President Johnson as he signed the Civil Rights Bill in 1964 (Columbia Southern University (CSU) n.d.). I have expounded on how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr has left a lifelong legacy that is still bringing about change in the world we live in today. As well as the many events that are taking place yearly in his honor, in addition to his Federal Holiday that is being celebrated throughout the United States of America every year.
