This site shows the geography of drunk driving. It first talks about the date most likely to have car accidents involving alcohol, which is the New Year’s Day. Then the site shows the geographic distribution of alcohol-related crashes by using the map "A National Portrait of Drunk Driving”. John Nelson mapped ten full years of accidents (2001-2010) on a hexagonal mesh of the United States, which represents data collected from a roughly identical space with no regard to administrative boundaries. New York City, Salt Lake City, Memphis, Miami, Detroit, and Los Angeles have very low percentages of alcohol-related accidents. The Bay Area and the Pittsburgh-Cleveland-Akron area have a much higher incidence of alcohol-related accidents. A thickly settled population like South Carolina can also have a large number of accidents involving alcohol.
