Driving while under the influence of alcohol has been an issue over the years. It has caused many car crashes and some even fatal accidents. Not only will it cause pain and suffering on the victim but to the family and friends around the victim it could be very devastating. For many, one drink can be the one mistake that could follow them for the rest of their life. There are many ways to prevent drunk driving but how will they be implemented? Every 53 minutes in America, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash. That equates to 27 people every day. Someone is injured in a drunk driving incident every 120 seconds. Another way to make drivers aware are consequences of driving under the influence. Although there should be more random checkpoints to increase efficiency. Doing so can increase more arrests for drunk driving. More arrests means people would take a second thought before taking the wheel while under the influence. It could be one of the most safest way to get drunk drivers out of the road ways. Some believe it causes more frustrations than good. People believe that anyone could make a decision of taking a drink and decide when one is one too many. But in reality checkpoints can cause some good. Friends can start looking out for other friends, they can designate a driver for the night. A designated driver is a person that will stay sober for the night and be responsible to drive each other home. Having a designated driver cannot only save his or her life it can save many others as well. Not mention, the various laws that to discourage driving under the influence. Alcoholism is one of the biggest controversial conversions. Due to many points of view of when someone should be able to have a drink. One of the laws that can help with drunk drivers is having a higher drinking age. Forty percent of alcohol-related fatal car crashes involve teens.
