Education During The Dark Ages

There were a variety of reasons that several hundred years of Europe's history was referred to as the “Dark Ages”. One pool of thought is that this period of time was not appropriately named as such because there is a lot of historical evidence about many of the people and their lives back then. Others would point to the economic hardships and the continual lack of jobs. To the new generations it could have been the need for academic opportunities. Despite all these negativities, historians don’t always agree on every aspect of the Dark Ages; they have their opinions. Education wasn’t a big thing to have for kids.It was not big for Adults either. Boys were meant in this time period to work like their dad. Little girls were meant to clean, cook, and sew things. The Mother was meant for cleaning and cooking. Education was rarely used around this time period, they did not have much of it. Some seek it and some could care less about education. A lot of education was mostly in churches. God carried in kids who wanted to learn. There was only education so kids can do the adults job for them, mostly in the church. In the churches the kids filed files and wrote letters. For example, Alcuin was a famous teacher in the church world. He inspired kids to learn. Alcuin had a huge compilation of poems and books (Wells,2009). The Greeks,Franks, Romans, Arabs recorded and wrote some of the history of the Dark Ages (Gregory,1993). The alphabet of today originated through the greek alphabet (Sakoula,2002). However, much of the historical background on the Greeks was not recorded. Most history was not recorded. It was a very hard period of time for these people and everyone else. (Sakoulas,2002). Education was not valued by the people during the Dark Ages besides the people in the church. In the church, people loved education. They wanted to teach education to the un-educated. Latin was taught by Alcuin, he is a christian munk.It helped German people learn about the Roman Classics from the centuries before time (Catholic Bible 101,2008). Latin gave them a way to be interested in learning. People were taught the Roman sciences such as music, geometry,astronomy, basic math, logic rhetoric, and grammar. (Catholic Bible
