What is racism? Racism is the belief that one race is more superior than the other. When you think of racism, do you just think of whites and blacks? If you think so, you aren’t totally wrong. Racism isn’t just the conflict between blacks and whites. It effects every race. An example of racism is believing that Caucasians are superior to whites. Another example could be a Latino or Hispanic not being able to work because of their ethnicity. Racism effects our nation. It has caused various complications to our society as a whole. Many people It effects certain aspects of a person’s life that causes taxpayers to pay. Racism began as a result of slavery. According to a historian, Eric Williams, slavery was not born of racism; rather, racism was the consequence of slavery (Page 8). When the 13th Amendment was ratified, it was created to end slavery. Even though the slaves were free, they weren’t treated as such. "Jim Crow" laws provided an organized basis for segregating and discriminating against African Americans. The impact of racism effects our nation negatively. It hurts the ones who are affected by it, as well as the ones who experience some form of it. On certain occasions, it effects taxpayers. There are various reasons as to why and how racism effects the taxpayers. As you may know, we have countless occupations that are set to protect the people of this country. A very safe and common job that is used to protect our country are Police officers. They
