Curley and Carson looked after them. And Carlson said, “Now what the hell you suppose is eatin’ them two guys?” “I don’t know?” said Curley. “But I’m going to find out…” The next morning, George crept out of the bunk house and into the barn. There he stared at Curley’s Wife; curious of what actually happened. He felt outraged because he told Lennie to stay away from her but as always, he forgot. He turned to the pups and sat down to stroke them however, he realised that one of them was missing. “Lennie, what did you do?” he muttered. Suddenly, George heard a faint mumble coming closer to the barn. He didn’t know what to do so he darted to a hay bale and hid behind it. “George? Where are you? We need to talk.” “Oh Candy it’s you! You gave me a …show more content…
What are you doing here?” “We’re stopping you from doing something silly. George this will make things worse, just come over to us and we can talk.” “Sorry but I just can’t. I need Lennie and this is the only way I’ll be with him.” George brought the gun up to his head and walked up to Lennie. “See you soon Lennie…” In 3 seconds, George was lying next to Lennie. His skin was pale and still. Slim and Candy fell next to him and stayed there. Memories flooded to their mind from the first day they met George and Lennie to now. It was as silent as midnight with no wildlife. “Shall we tell everyone at the ranch?” whispered Slim. “Not yet, I think they can wait. Right now all I need is no fuss and one last minute with George and Lennie…” A few hours later, Curley and Carlson appeared and stood behind Slim and Candy who were still sat next to Lennie and George’s dead bodies. “What happened?” asked Curley softly. Slim and Candy didn’t answer. They couldn’t say anything. “Come on, let’s take you back to the ranch and we’ll get a drink and talk.” Slim and Candy slowly lifted off the floor and started walking back to the ranch. They were still in shock from what had just happened right in front of them a few hours
While Lennie was in the barn something was going on in the bunk house. Carlson was trying to persuade Candy to let him shoot his dog. Carlson argued that the dog was old, sick and miserable and that ending its suffering would be the best thing to do for the dog. After a few minutes, of thought Candy wearily agreed. So Carlson took the old, weary dog outside put a gun to the back of the dog’s head and pulled the trigger.
George was completely devastated, having just killed his best friend. However he wouldn’t of had to take that route, if he had not strayed from his responsibilities in the first
George saved Lennie by shooting him with a gun in the back of the head. It was fast and painless, but Curley had other plans for Lennie, “We oughtta let ‘im get away. You don’t know that Curley. Curley gont’ta wanta get him lynched. Curley’ll get ‘im killed”( Steinbeck 94). Candy knows that Curely will lynch Lennie if he finds him. George knew he had to find Lennie before Curley. George decided to shoot Lennie because he knew Lennie would have either been locked up in jail his entire life, or have been beaten up and lynched by Curley. After George shoots Lennie, Slim reassures George that he did the right thing, “You hadda, George. I swear you hadda”(Steinbeck 107). George needed Slim to let him know that it was the right thing to do. Slim gave George closure, because George was in awe. George realized he did the right thing after he followed Slim out of the
After Curley's wife hearing the men's were back that made her leave and Candys says to Lennie that she was glad that he beat her husband. When George came back from town, he criticizes Candy for talking about
Two hours after George killed Lennie, George was at the bar with Curley and Slim to get a drink, and the three began talking about Lennie, making George start to think if he had done the right thing by shooting Lennie in the head. After the three left the bar, George walked out onto the street and saw Curley's wife walking down the street. George decided to shrug it off and told himself that it was all part of his imagination, and George returned to his house. Three years later, George had built the house by the lake that Lennie had wanted, and George had buried Lennie's body in the backyard. Later, George had decided to go to the bar to get a drink, when he got to the bar he saw Slim and Carley, and Curley's wife all talking with each other. When the group saw George, he was in awe "I thought that Lennie killed you..." he said to Curley's wife, Curley replied excitedly "Nope, i'm not sure how but she is alive!" George was still confused, then Slim said "Stop asking so many questions and come have a drink" George had then began thinking about how the only reason he killed Lennie was because Lennie went too far to save by killing Curley's wife. After that, George had began disconnecting himself with the rest of the group because he had become depressed after he had learned that Lennie wasn't a murderer. Just as George was thinking about how he shouldn't have killed Lennie, he heard a knock on his door, and he went to see who it was, Curley's wife was at the door with Slim, and both were looking sad. George had opened the door for them, and said "What happened?" Curley's wife looked back at him, and informed him that Curley had been murdered. George beckoned the two inside is house, and said "Come in, do either of you want anything to drink?" Curley's wife shook her head Slim walked her inside. The three sat down at a table in George's house "Tell me what happened" George said nervously, Curley's wife replied, "I was having an argument with Curley and he had gotten angry and stormed off, later, when i went looking for him, I found him in the ranch, with an axe wound in his head." Curley's wife started crying and Slim looked at George, "She came to me and told me the story, then asked
George reminds Lennie to stay away from Curley and his wife because their trouble. A fight broke out between Curley and Lennie. Curley accused Lennie of laughing at him. Curley throws the first punch and Lennie responds by grabbing Curley's fist in a tight hold. Curley's hand starts bleeding baldy. The co-workers threaten turkey to not say anything. Curley agrees and says his hand got caught in a machine. The next day, Curley's wife is suspicious on how Lennie got his bruises on his face. She figures out that Curley caused them. Later on, all the boys except lennie are playing horseshoes. Lennie goes into the barn to play with his puppy. As expected, Lennie killed the puppy because he wasn’t gentle. In this moment, Curley's wife decided to enter the
Curley, an amateur boxer, was a small man who hated big guys like Lennie; one time, Curley tried to start a fight with Lennie. Lennie ended up breaking Curley’s hand, and Curley is still mad at Lennie. “Curley came back to life ‘I know who done it… I’m gonna get him, I’m going for my shotgun… I’ll shoot ‘im in the guts’ Curley ran furiously out of the barn” (Steinback 96), Curley wanted to kill Lennie out of spite for accidentally killing his wife. If Lennie was not put down by George, Curley would have caught them and found a way to painfully execute Lennie. After Candy let Carlson put down his old dog for him, he felt that he should have done it himself. George knew he had to be the one that killed Lennie because he would feel guilt if it was not him. He had remembered when Candy let Carlson put Candy’s dog down and how upset Candy was, and George knew he had to make sure Lennie went in a peaceful way, thinking about the
After that one was why they left Weed to come to their current ranch. George said that their job was to dig up a cesspool and they finished. This is a big web of lies George is weaving, and to not anyone else but the boss. All these lies and the boss being suspicious of them already makes this a unsafe for mostly Lennie. If those lies were to come out it would end the job for both of them. Another reason why the ranch is unsafe for them is because of the boss's son, Curley. When Curley walks in and notices the new men, he ¨glances coldly¨. This alone can give off that he doesn't like them already. But, he goes up to George and Lennie and tries to force Lennie to talk. He is being very rude and mean to them. He is very problematic, he is just there to cause problems between people. Candy adds that, ¨He's alla time picking scraps with big guys...S'pose Curley jumps a big guy an' licks him. Ever'body says what a game guy Curley is. And s'pose he does the same thing and gets licked. Then ever'body says the big guy oughtta pick on somebody his own size...¨ (26) Since Lennie is a big guy, there is a big chance that Curley can mess with
Firstly, Slim’s dog gave birth to puppies, so he gave one pup to Lennie. Then Candy’s dog, who is very old, smells bad, and cannot eat on its own, was shot and killed to be put out of its misery. This represents the birth and death of dogs or “coming and going.” Then the idea of George and Lennie’s farm comes up and Candy wants to join in and “come” onboard for the dream. Lastly, Curley tries to fight Lennie and punches him several times in the face, but Lennie grabs his fist and breaks it effortlessly. Then to prevent Lennie from getting in trouble, they let Curley “go” and give him a warning that if he tells about the fight, they will tell everyone about how he
But he saw something unusual, the boss. "Men, today we mourn the death of my son girl who was unfortunately taken away," he says. Slim says " yall having a funeral ?". "I don't know what Curley got planned," the boss says then he goes out the door. George wasn't concerned about Curley's wife, just happy that he didn't have to work. Candy walked up to George and said: "in no way will I ever mourn that girl, she was trouble and finally got what she was given out". George agreed with what most of Candy said but never really wanted to think about what happened in that barn. Curley marched in with his chest up high as his ego saying "Yall gonna need to dig that hole for my wife to lay".
Slim kept wrapping Curley’s hand as tight as he could stop the blood from running. As this was going on they didn’t realise out the window Curley’s Wife was watching what was going on. She had heard the screaming of pain back at the Main House. She saw the whole thing happen, Curley getting into a fight with Lennie and then Lennie fighting back by crushing Curley’s hand. She could feel the pain of Curley deep inside of her. Growing bigger and bigger as she kept watching. She wanted to scream badly to protect
Although taking care of Lennie is proven difficult, this task provides George with something to do. At one point, when Lennie threatens to run away, George responds by saying, “ ‘I want you to stay
Candy said they shot his dog, no wonder he ain’t in here tonight. An’ maybe that was the reason behind the gunshot I heard when I was in the barn with my pup. When we heard the voices outside getting closer to the bunkhouse, George warned us to keep this plan to ourselves because they might prevent us from making a stake. I repeated this, to keep it in mind, because for some reason if I say it outloud, I remember. I was so busy thinking bout the ranch when the boys come in, I didn't know what they were sayin’. Curley came to me an’ was anxious to start a fight. He started to hit me, first with his left hand, then with his right he smashed my nose. I was so frightened I didn’t know what to do. I covered my face, so he wouldn’t hit it, but that was a mistake because he cut off my wind. I looked for George, and I removed my hands from my face, but my eyes were Curley’s victim. I heard George yellin’ at me to do something so I grabbed Curley’s hand that came as a fist and squeezed it with my hand. George came an’ told me to let go, but I was in shock an’ was trying to take in what jus’ happened. They rushed to take Curley to the doctor, and all I could think of was what have I
Lennie and George make friends with the new ranch workers including Slim, Candy, Carlson and Crooks. One person they did not quite get along with was Curley, the boss’s son. Curley is rude and overprotective of his wife who tends to give other guys “the eye.” Lennie unintentionally kills Curley’s wife and is in desperate need for George’s help, once again, before the other men make Lennie suffer a long
As soon as they reach the ranch we are immediately introduced to Candy, Slim Curley and his wife. Candy shows them around and informs them that the boss was pretty angry about them not coming last night. Then theres Curley, who is a misanthrope to larger men, he comes looking for his wife. When Curley leaves his wife enters. After that we meet the final sub-main character Slim. His dog had a litter of puppies, so he gave Lenny a puppy to keep. Carlson later asks to shoot Candy’s dog.
