Epic Hero A hero is a man without fear,courageous,always ready to sacrifice,tough and pure at heart. Beowulf a real hero a man who sacrificed himself for his kingdom he is a true hero a man without fear and pure at heart. At first he risked his life to kill Grendel and then he risked his life again to kill Grendel’s mom like a hero he takes control of his kingdom like a good leader Understanding the significance of Beowulf's acts requires an understanding of the key figures in the epic poem. This hero of Sweden (Geats), the hero Beowulf provides aid to Hrothgar, the king of Danes. A Powerful monster Grendel and his mother attacked Hrothgar’s Mead hall. Beowulf courage allowed him to face the monsters and gave him fame and glory throughout the lands.Anglo-Saxon heroes are willing to put their own lives in danger for the good of others. They rendered the common people with a sense of security and they show honor in their every act. Beowulf was willing to put himself in danger, and he accepts the challenge of fighting Grendel,the monster, for the honor of helping the Geats and to honor his father who pledged his allegiance to Hrothgar after a feud had been settled. Lines 73-4 in Section III explain his motivation: "Living his life-days, his Lord may face, And find defence in his Father’s embrace!" This act displays Beowulf's strong sense of duty, another heroic characteristic.Later in life, Beowulf becomes King of the Geats and is responsible for guiding his kingdom.
