Despite a lifelong passion for medicine and a desire to pursue a career in healthcare, I'd always struggled to find the right path forward for myself. Nursing? Maybe. Teaching? Possibly. Physician assistant (PA)? Could be. Frustration built up inside of me as I explored the various possibilities, always coming away undecided. Semester after semester, the same frustrations would arise, even to the point of discouraging me from seeking a career in healthcare at all. That all changed one day in 2017 as I was standing behind the counter at Walgreens working as a pharmacy technician. I was nearing completion of my Masters in Healthcare Administration and had been working as a scribe and administrative intern at a hospital in Forth Worth. During that time, I had given serious thought to becoming a PA, but had never been sure of myself. It was in that moment, however, as I was standing there filling a prescription I had received from a PA for whom I had previously scribed, that something clicked. I finally had true clarity of mind and realized how much I wanted to be the person writing those prescriptions and working as part of the …show more content…
I have seen first hand the many sorrows that can come with suffering from debilitating diseases. In those moments, it is imperative that the medical professional attending to the sick individual or their family can lift their spirits and help provide support. I have also seen how much joy and relief individuals can obtain by seeing a provider that can diagnose and help treat their various medical issues. The look on a patient's face when you have provided them an answer or a solution to their health problem is priceless. To me, being able to service in that capacity on a daily basis--as comforter, counselor, and healer--is worth all of the hardships that come along with becoming a
In class, we learned that doctors are often very specialized and are only concerned about one specific part of a patient’s body. However, PAs are able to spend ample time communicating with patients and assessing their illness as a whole. Jessica Swartz said that she loves that she gets to take care of a patient throughout their entire hospital stay and is able to develop a trusting relationship with many of them. During lecture, Mrs. Hontz stated that many PAs in family practice are able to take care of their patients from birth to death, which allows them to form lasting relationships with them. I look forward to the many interactions that I will have as a PA, which will hopefully show my patients how much I care about helping them feel their best.
In conclusion, a PA would be the perfect job for someone who likes to help other people. They have considerable independence. Physician assistants can choose to study specialties. You have to have a master's degree to become a certified PA. Their projected job growth is much faster than the average job. The percentage is about twenty-one percent. PAs are usually outgoing, and very understanding. This is the perfect job for

In the healthcare field today there are many careers to pursue. The career I am most interested in is becoming a physician’s assistant. A physician’s assistant is a state licensed medical professional who is able to practice medicine in all 50 states under the supervision of a doctor or surgeon. To become a physician’s assistant you must have completed an educational program that is approved by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician’s Assistant. These programs usually take a total of about 27 months to complete and include a total of 2,000 clinical hours.
At different times throughout my life I have envisioned myself as a cardiologist, a surgeon, or one of many other specialized physicians. However, these specializations all lacked the independence and flexibility I sought. Becoming a physician assistant will enable me to have the autonomy to practice medical care in a compassionate, economical, and ethical manner in order to address major health concerns in the United States.
Working in the health care field as a medical assistant includes administrative and clinical tasks in a physician’s office or hospital setting. I realized I enjoyed working in the health care field, yet did not want to be a medical assistant for the rest of my life. I wanted to do something more than record information for doctor’s to review. When searching for a career it’s important to recognize your strengths and weaknesses and I
In August of this year, I will be entering my final year at Grand Canyon University and will graduate with my bachelor’s degree in biology with a pre-medical emphasis in April of 2018. Upon graduation, I am planning on attending a medical or physician assistant school to pursue a career as a health care provider. I am not completely sure which route I want to take as I believe that there are benefits and drawbacks to both, however, I have been finding myself to be more drawn to the physician assistant route. At the beginning of my junior year, I spent a small amount of time working with PhysAssist Scribes in two different emergency departments. During this time, I was exposed to physician assistants and began to develop an interest in their line of work.
The health care system is flawed, and I believe every individual who pursues a career in the health field has the ability to help fix it. During college, I was still exploring and researching potential career paths. The decision to pursue a career as a physician assistant (PA) came from a thirst to help others and to improve quality of life of individuals.
There are more than 100,000 certified Physician Assistants practicing medicine in the United States. PA’s have a very high starting salary and get to do a lot of hands on work. After just two years of schooling you can come out making an average of $94,000. Being stuck at a desk all day is dreadful, and physician assistants get to choose what they want their work environment to look like. Job opportunities for a PA are expected to go up by more than thirty percent between 2010 and 2020. When you are a PA you have a huge amount of flexibility to choose your specialization. I know that a PA is the best career choice for me because i love to work with people and enjoy social interaction, i love to have flexibility to be able to spend time with my family, and there are very good benefits and there will always be job openings.
At the time, I had been researching careers and had come to the realization that I strongly desired a career that would allow me to help people every day. During my research, I had narrowed my options to the health care field. Not knowing about the PA profession, I had initially thought that a career as a physician would be the right path to take. However, once I heard about the role of the PA, I knew it was the direction that I wanted to go.
Growing up, I always had a strong interest in a career that involved helping people. My dream was to become an optometrist like my older cousin whom I looked up to. An incident, which occurred my freshman year of college, impacted me with such noteworthiness that I decided to change my career goal. I was baffled and seek my older cousins for guidance. I spoke to them regarding my change of mind and one of them introduced to me briefly what a physician assistant (PA) was because she is a physician assistant herself.
However, I had a lot of trouble narrowing my career interests to one career path, because each medical career seemed equally appealing to me, that was, until my senior year of high school. During the second semester of my senior year, I took a specialized class called “Health Occupations”. This was a dual-credit course offered at my high school that allowed students to explore many avenues of medical careers. For this class, I had the opportunity to travel twice a week to different healthcare facilities in the area. We were also given the opportunity to work
At the start of my seventh grade year, the idea that I wanted to become a Physician Assistant made its debut in my mind. At that time, I was not aware of the responsibilities that I would be undertaking as a P.A., or of the steps that would become necessary to pursue my goal. Now, through shadowing and research into this profession, I have gained a better understanding of the role of Physician Assistants. There is a certain art to medicine that is manifested through the work of P.A.s. In addition to this artful aspect, I am attracted to this career because of the fact that I could be comforting and healing people on a daily basis, which is something I have always dreamed of.
Faced with a trivial query of the pharmacy assistant, I should be cautious about having any irrational and judgmental plans of action. I should first recall intensively the uses of Aspirin 500mg (Cortal 500) and its toxicological effects if taken abusively than the prescribed dose. Then and there, I would know that the information I would be sharing to the patient will be of accuracy.
I came into college knowing that I wanted to work in the medical field, but without really knowing what profession I wanted to pursue. There were many reasons why I wanted to pursue a career in the medical field which eventually led to pursuing a pharmacy career. One reason was wanting a career where I’m regularly
