Start Small and Finish Big Bagging and sorting out merchandise for my local community has a great influence on who I have become as a person. I want people to understand my passion for serving others and by doing the simplest things, makes a big difference. Nonprofit organizations inspire me and can make a lot of money in the long run. Ultimately, people can see my Christian faith and I can have opportunities for me to happily share that with them. I’ll start off explaining my passion for servings others. For example, my sophomore summer I volunteered at East Lincoln Christian Ministries. Some days I would hang clothes. Other days I would sort out linens and other merchandise. Some mornings I would have rather just stayed in bed. Today, I look back and am so proud of what I accomplished there! It took dedication on my part, but I gained a greater understanding of myself and the value of volunteering. The last point I want to make is my personal favorite for why I volunteer. This is a major part of who I am as a person. I care a lot for my peers and people in general. I always have and always will. This is due to me being a Christian and my own personality. In addition to that, I bet by now my personality has been shown throughout this essay. I am always there for people when they need me. I put other’s needs before my own. For the most part, I like having a positive outlook on life (but trust me I have bad days as well). I want the best for the people in my life and try my hardest to cheer them up when they are at their worst. Besides ELCM, I have served at other places. I have gone on mission trips through my church. One that I want to talk about is the Manchester, Kentucky mission trip. This was a week family mission trip. All church members stay in a local church. Each day we had something planned. For example, a few days we would work at God’s Closet, host block parties and Vacation Bible School for kids. God’s Closet is a huge thrift store always in need of helpers. I would sort clothes and help clean up things.
