Often at times people can feel disconnected from themselves, from the world, or even friends and families; Therefore, causing tension in relationships. Which was displayed in “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” when the knight searches all over the world to find out what women most desire in a man. Also in “One Amazing Thing” there are various stories from different characters that have had trouble with personal stories and how one gender or religious belief can be more dominate than the other.
In “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” the knight comes across women that say they desire a man that has wealth, honor, or even to be widowed (926-928) as examples of what women most crave from men. But that is one of the common misunderstandings different sexes have against each other. You can’t ask one female to speak for all females because we don’t all think the same. Malathi was seen as a very unflattering women and once her parents decided to marry her off she had to go through an intensive makeover, Miss Lola the beautician said “She’d require more work than her sisters --” (109) implying that she wasn’t a naturally beautiful person. She has to be up to some men’s standards so they would find her attractive enough to marry. Just like in “The Wife of Bath’s Tale” when the Knight describes the Wife as “Old and ugly” (1213) the Wife gave him an option for her to be beautiful but men would desire her or to be left unattractive but faithful to the Knight. Ultimately he let her decide but, it all goes back to how men and women want someone that they think are beautiful or up to their standards. That is a major disconnection towards different genders because looks shouldn’t be the only thing each person wants from one another.
